Exactly, she knows, and most people know that lavender edible and it has medicinal purposes. People have conditions and she doesn’t want to run the risk of putting somebody in a precarious situation. So, she’s counseling, be careful, seek expert advice.
I learned what I needed to learn about the different types of lavender and harvesting timing and and how to dry. I love the twine rope ... just my kind of resourceful, practical instuction. Thank you so much.
I remember cooking at night, was cooking beef stew, so i decided to get my fresh rosemarry from the garden to spice up my stew. To my surprise my stew tasted different, only to realise i harvested lavender instead, i thought i was going to die but i am fine. Actually i noticed that Lavender tastes good on food especially chicken.
I cut mine after the bees have had their fill. Roll them up in small bunches, in 2 or 3 sheets of news paper, then lay them like a lattice to allow the air all around them. Takes 2 -3 weeks in my shed. Then hand strip the dried flowers and store in a airtight box for arts n crafts as needed. 😎
Hi Cathy! Thank you for sharing your wonderful video with us. I'm a newbie with growing lavender. It took a few years for me to finally realize everything I thought that I was doing right was actually wrong in terms of having the right soil. The first year, they had too much shade not enough sun, so some died, and the others that I moved to the sunny area also died because I used only miracle grow garden soil. The one that did survive was planted in my natural soil with a handful of limestone and then a little bit of sand mixed with the natural soil. It is enormous now and produces the most beautiful scented flowers that I can smell all the way to my garden shed feet away. This year, I have planted 40 more in the same area using the same method and they are thriving beautifully. It's my hope to use 1-2 acres out back to evolve into a little lavender farm. I know it's not much space, but it'll suffice for what I would like to do, which is too make lavender oils, soaps and sachets, as well as use bunches for my craft projects like yourself. I love coming across videos on lavenders, but especially love yours because it's up close and very detailed, and you genuinely have a love for what you are doing with your lavenders and other herbs. Wonderful! Thank you again, and God bless!
Oh my goodness. This sounds wonderful. 1 to 2 acres of lavender. Wow! I do wish you all the best with this. I plant a few more every year and am taking my time about building it up but I'd love to just jump right in and do much more. Full time work and a small business keeps me from doing so at the moment. Thank you very much for the kind words about the video. I'm so glad that you enjoyed it. God Bless Cathy
Thank you for a lovely video. We visited France several years ago and I got seeds for two varieties of French from Provence and have two lovely bushes that have flourished for several years. Now I know what to do with them
Thank you for that easy to follow tutorial. I am making a few to take to a friend's birthday socially distanced party tomorrow. She is a woman who has everything so this is a perfect gift for her. She certainly won't have any of these.
Hi Jane, I'm so pleased that you found the video to be helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment. Take good care. God Bless Cathy
Hi Reshonda, I relax when I watch gardening videos. I hope your harvesting turned out well. Thank you for watching and for leaving a lovely comment. God Bless Cathy
Lovely! My Lavance Lavendar in its yearling stage dried so quickly on the vine this year. I caught some but most fried from the beating sun. I sure hope it comes back even stronger next year. It's my favourite herb. Yours is beautiful! ~X🌾🌸🌿X~
I love the vertical braided twine rope you made. I also love how you used the paperclip to hang your lavender around the rubber band. Your voice is so soothing. It was almost like a lavender harvest ASMR. Nice work. I have three bushes ready to harvest. I cannot wait to do it. I'm looking for a video for more ideas on what to do with dried lavender. Maybe how to make sachets or other adorable ideas. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this! If I didn't had someone demonstrate this, I wouldn't be able to do my "Light Hut" project. It's part of homeschooling. Thank you again and God bless!
I'm so glad that you found the video helpful. What is "Light Hut"? Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a lovely comment. God Bless Cathy
Thank you for sharing, I am harvesting lavender for the first time and your video was so helpful. I love the braid and paper clip trip for hanging to dry.
angarama crafts Yes this lavender is wonderful. I'm sorry I lost the name. I actually bought it on vacation and had to travel home with it amongst the suit cases. TFW and commenting. God Bless Cathy
I was looking for tutorial on how to dry my lavender that a picked on a farm trip. And stumpled on your lovely video. Really charming ideas. I will definitely try them...... xxx
Thank you for taking the time to produce this video. One of the most helpful I've seen. I'm a home gardener, have 7 lavender plants now, learning by trial and error how to care for my plants. I have Hidcote, Phenomenal, Provence and Munstead (do not like this one) and some are just HUGE! I am torn between leaving the beautiful blooms on my plant to enjoy or harvesting them to dry.
Please forgive the delayed response. Some comments get by me. I'm so glad that this video was helpful to you. Thank you so much for watching and for leaving such a lovely comment. God Bless Cathy
Yes, thank you. I enjoyed your video very much nd learned a great deal. I just purchase an indoor lavender plant so I'm going to "like" and subscribe for mor helpful hints.
Thank you so much for this lovely video! Now I know exactly what to do with my lavender plant without messing it up. And you have such a lovely calming voice!
I’m hoping I can down load this video. I’d like to get a copy of this to the sisters at our local monastery. The LOVE lavender oils I bring them and are wanting to make their own. May God bless and reward you.🙏🏻🌱
When I harvest the lavender, will it keep growing ? How often do you harvest? THis is the first year that I have been able to grow lavender. I can grow a lot of stuff but I have the hardest time with lavender... TIA
Best lavender harvest and drying tutorial so far! Love the paper clip and twine braid.. I’m not a fan of rubber bands I just used twine. Thank you sooooo much! I appreciate you mentioning to leave some for the bees… Can we also harvest after the bees are done with it and it’s somewhat dry already? I have the lighter color lavender.
Thank you for the lovely comments Barbara. Yes, I use recycled bands from the grocery store but twine or cotton string are great too. Take good care. God Bless Cathy
What type of Lavender are you using? I just got Spanish Eyes/ Fern Leaf which is nice and hardy here in the desert. I am wondering if I will be able to use this type?
Depends on what kind of doctor, right? If you approach a doctor who practices Western medicine, they don't teach about that in med school. But a holistic doctor would know more about that for sure!
@@frogystal I agree with you 100%! I personally am into both Western and Eastern Medicine, relying interchangeably depending on the type of cure. I rely on TCM for things that are chronic/longterm illnesses like joint pains, back pain, migraine, eczema and acne etc. Just because I feel that their treatments has less side effects on most things whereas in Western Medicine, there would be a lot of side effects especially for the kidneys and liver when dealing with eczema and acne.. I rely on Western Medicine on things that needs to be cured asap, like fever, flu, infections, viruses, etc or like the need of using antibiotics.
I’m planning to get some so I can plant my own. I’ve been hearing about different types of lavender. I’m very confused I don’t know which one to get. I live in a state with a lot of sun hitting the yard but I’m planning to keep it inside my room with a lot of light coming in. Is that fine for any kind of lavender I get??
Hi thankyou for the video just getting in to herbs. So I cut loads of lavender put in to bunches yesterday and hung upside down in the house. I wanted to ask when they are fully dry do I need to take them down to get all the flowers off or could they stay hung upside down in my home as decoration all year round. I was just worried that if I left them hanging all the time they might start dropping the buds everywhere eventually. Any help would be really appreciated as I'm totally new to all this. Thankyou so much Carly xxx
Nice. Thank you. Yes the leaves are edible. Add some to your fresh greens salads. I've just dried a batch in the dehydrator, for the mixed herbs blend.
Great video! LOVE the rope idea!! How neat! Going to be making some "herb ropes" for my friends! :) Instead of soap on a rope I'll have herbs on a rope! :)
Can you do the same with french lavender ? I've just bought one and it smells divine,I have a little balcony outside my window and I'm looking forward to the scent blowing in.
I believe that you can do the same with all types of lavender. The hard part is cutting them from the plant but I wait until the last minute so I can enjoy them where they belong first:) God Bless Cathy
Hi There, I will make lavender sachets, little bunches with ribbon to place on a night stand for restful sleep, small wreaths, cards, and I hope some bath salts. I'd love to make some soaps but so far I'm still shy of using lye (?spelling) Thank you so much for watching and commenting. God Bless Cathy
@@killerbass5613 I have noticed that many people use it now in cookies, cakes, beverages etc and I hope they would tell me because I am allergic to it!! No surprises with my food.
Yes. She reminds me of someone I grew up with in New England. Maybe just one of those "familiar" voices. Clear and almost soothing. Great video; I needed ideas for my lavender.
+zuzy69 I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video. I miss the summer already:) Thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave a lovely comment. God Bless Cathy
Hi Jen, Oh that cake sounds lovely. Yes, if I don't have recycled bands from the store twine is perfect. TFW and for taking the time to comment. Take good care. God Bless Cathy
I am harvesting some to make salves and maybe tea. Do the stems have medicinal value as well? I don't want to waste the storage space in my jars if they don't really contribute. (I will dehydrate and let steep in oil for 4-6 weeks)
To the best of my knowledge the stems and leaves contain the same/similar oils as the buds. Certainly they are strongly fragrant. I hope this helps. Good luck with your salves:) God Bless, Cathy
I have a quick question. How many lavender plants do you have to harvest that much? I bet it smells wonderful! Thank you for all of this information! I am definitely putting the paper clip idea to use.
Hi Hanah, I have about 10 medium sized plants of a few varieties. I try to add 1 or 2 more plants each year. I have started them from seed (takes quite a long time) and from cuttings as well. I'm so glad that you found the information helpful. Best of luck with yours:) God Bless Cathy
Oh I wish I could remember where I got this one. I did find one on Amazon that is similar. I will leave my affiliate link to the item here for you. Hope it helps. Please forgive the delayed response. Such a busy schedule. Thanks for watching and commenting. amzn.to/302aK8U God Bless Cathy
Great info thanks for sharing - such an honour to have advice and experiences handed to us the present and future generations, especially now... I'm new at gardening, im guessing i did the following incorrectly: took out a full lavender bush from the roots and planted on the other side of the garden which has very hot day sun with wind early evenings, its 2 weeks now and bush is brown and dry even though watering the whole garden daily...? Please assist with a cure 🌱🍃
If there is any green down deep in the bush don't give up. Trim out the dried parts and watch for more signs of life. Plants will always go through some shock after transplant and sometimes they don't make it so don't feel bad. If the plant is gone, don't give up. Just get another and try, try again. Hope this helps. God Bless Cathy
