If you do every first stitch of every row with a knit as if to purl, you will create a row of vee's on each edge of your square, it is very neat looking, and it has the right amount of stitches for when you pick-up for your cast on edge.
Thanks for the clear instructions. I like how you go for the less fussy/easy option. My sort of knitting lol. I dont finish the last stitch of the square. I count this as the first stitch of the next square. Makes it even easier to start of the next one :) happy scrappy knitting everyone.
I’m enthralled with this blanket! I have knit many baby sweaters and always have leftover yarn. I’m looking forward to making one of these blankets. Thank you for such a good explanation.
Thank you so much Anna. This is an excellent tutorial with very clear instructions! Now I understand how to get my squares going in the right direction. ❤️
I always wondered how that was knitted - now I have another project listed (but I’d like to do it NOW!!!! 😂 Thank you for putting the tutorial together 😊
Schon mehrmals habe ich versucht, eine Decke nach diesem System zu stricken und immer wieder aufgegeben. Dank deines Videos verstehe ich das nun. Vielen lieben Dank dafür.... auch für die ruhige, konkrete Erklärung. LG Renate
If you Slip 1st stitch Purlwise and Knit Through Back of Loop on Last Stitch on Every Row, you will get a Neat Edge, makes it easier for picking up stitches for next block.
This is the first time this process has made any sense! I have tried and given up so many times before. I was ready to crochet for the blanket MAL, but I'm reconsidering. Thanks for a great tutorial!!! - Sabine
I just recently learned to knit. Literally been knitting for about 5 days, and I understood your instructions perfectly. I'm going to give this blanket a try!
Thank you so much Anna! As I started watching your tutorial, I remembered my memories blanket I started last year. I had given up on it but now, I can't put it down. 😄 Your positive attitude is contagious! 👍
Omg I’m so happy I found someone who clearly thinks and knits like me lol thank you I’ve been struggling for years to do this blanket but you have finally explained it in a very clear unfussy manner brilliant!!!! I’m now feeling like I can actually do this ❤ thank you again! X
Thank you so much for this video!! I have wanted to start one of these blankets for awhile and have been working on it everyday thanks to this tutorial!
Thank you, I just found this video after searching how you knit one of these blankets. Thank you for sharing the estimate for yarn amount for the long tail cast on, so handy!
Hi Anna. I just started knitting socks and I love it !!!! So , I’m sure I’ll have many left over yarn. I’ve seen that blanket before but I though it would be too complicated, the way you showed how makes much easier, I think I can do it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻thank you for your sooo helpful tutorial, I enjoy your channel very much !!!!! 🥰🙏
Thank you Anna! Two years ago I tried starting a cozy memories blanket, but gave up. Your instructions are so clear that I’m going to try it again! Can you explain how many border skeins you have been using? I think I’d like to to make them in color blocks like you’ve done. This will be a great project for the year make along! 🤗
@@yviepaxt4 I have only just started mine, but have made 2.5 squares already! It's a bit addictive once my brain "got it". We live in Qld, Australia, so only have a small window in our climate to work with yarn as it gets too hot, but I am really motivated to keep going even it it takes me a year or two !
@@KimLomQld I’m so happy for you! I live in Southern California and we are have heat and I have no air conditioning. When I get home from work it’s sometimes hard to knit. It is addictive! Anna’s tutorials have really helped.
This is probably the best tutorial I have seen for this blanket ! I'll have to wait till Autumn to start, it's a bit warm here in QLD Australia ! Where abouts in the world are Anna ? And thank you for sharing the video, as I had given up trying
Hi Anna, I do apologise, I have only just seen your message. I like your tutorial because you show people what to do instead of just giving the verbal instructions. It's cooler weather here now, and I have returned to your video, I am just a little unsure in what direction to go ?
When my watch later videos ended, youtube started this video ... which was so funny because I'm sitting here knitting a Cozy Memories blanket out of all of my left over sock yarn. One tip for you. If you will slip the first stitch of every row knitwise and purl the last stitch of every row, you will have perfect stitches to pick up when you are ready to pick up for the sides. It's like the slipped stitches on the sides of the heel flap of socks to pick up for the gusset. Easy peasy and no guessing whatsoever.
Thanks Anna. I am using your tips to create my first blanket. I am not sure how to do the white border. I saw below in the comments you said to pick up along one edge at a time and knit 20 rows but what happens at the edges? How would you make them square? Any advice or even another video would be much appreciated! Or if anyone else can help. Would you cast on ?20 stitches (corresponding to the 20 rows) to make a mini mitred edge?
As a suggestion it would be better if you were to slip the first stitch as if to purl in the beginning of each row and every front and back row. This way you have a definite place to pick up stitches. It's done that way in knitting socks for the heel and heel flap. Other than that I understand this concept to create the blanket.
I’m sorry for all my questions. How many different colours do you use for a blanket? And how do you work out how and when to repeat colours? Thank you.
Lg Heidi 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I am not sure if I understand you correctly. Do you mean you would like to ad the squares only to the right side until you have the width of the blanket you would like to have? If that’s the case then the answer is yes. After the first square you cast on half of the stitches of square two and pick up the second half of the stitches along the side of square one. Was that helpful?
@@annaknitter hello, thank you for your speedy reply. I would like to knit the blanket in columns. With the first square being at bottom left, adding squares on top of each other to the length I want. Then starting the second column also at the bottom, joining each new square to the first column (which will be to the left)as I work my way up. I am struggling to explain myself. Does this make sense? I am thinking it would be like making the long columns on the knitted Jelly Roll blanket.
@@helenoreillylong9497 ok now I understand. Yes you can do that. For that you have to pick up the stitches along the top side of the first square and cast on the other half of the stitches.
@@annaknitter Thank You for the response. I am also wondering after the 4 blocks which direction should we go. Is the a standing direction we should follow. Help.
@@janicebest-nesbitt6455 if you don’t enjoy the the cast on with the thumb (like in the 2. square) I would ad the squares with it first (for example 5 squares in the same way like square number 2. After that you only have squares with picking up and the normal cast on for a while. But is really up to you how you want to go on.
Hatte bisher keine Schwierigkeiten damit. Vorsichtigshalber kannst du aber die Wolle vorher waschen. Und Stacy Perry hat ein Video darüber, wie man herausfindet, ob Wolle ausblutet. Ich glaube sie taucht die Wolle in Essig.
There are many pattern names for this square: Memories blanket, Coziest memories, cozy memories blanket. Some of them have different stitchcounts and decreasing methods.
