First time making automatic buttonholes on my 770QE with the 3A foot. OMG - they are beautiful! Another reason to love my newest Bernina.

Are there written instructions on how to use the button hole foot in the Bernina 580 Manual. I just can't see the buttons that are being pushed on your video. Thanks so very much for any help you can give me with this

Thank you for the video! I would like to know if for making this beautiful buttonholes you need the 700 series or if the buttonholes are just the same in the for example 400 series. My main interest is the most beautiful buttonholes I can make :) I hope you'll answer this question... :)

Dear Ana, thanks for asking. Depending on the machine, there are different buttonholes at your disposal. If you would like to compare the buttonholes between different machine types, you can refer to the user manuals which can be downloaded as PDFs from our website (e.g. www.bernina.com/bernina/media/Support/Sewing_Quilting_Embroidery/4_Serie/BERNINA_475QE/Documents/EN/1031755_00A_04_web_B475QE_GzD_EN.pdf for the B 475 QE) . Note that a 5.5 mm machine will produce a buttonhole with a smaller width than a 9 mm machine. The same button hole foot (3A) can be used on 7 and 4 Series machines, see our accessory catalog: www.bernina.com/en-US/Support-US/Product-Catalogs For beautiful buttonholes, please always use stabilizer and make sure to use the appropriate needle and thread for the fabric.

I think the super at 0:24 is wrong - 3B doesn't have a sensor, does it? Also, can both 3A and 3B sense the buttonhole length to create the same length over and over again? Not sure what the advantage of the coded sensor on 3A is, if both feet do the exact same things.

This is helpful. It would be more helpful if the screen did not have a typed list on the left which makes it hard to read the instructions as they come up on the screen in a larger font. Also, it would have been sensible to use some thread that wasn't red, so it would be clearer what was going on with the thread. But overall, helpful and clear.

Hi Aileen, thanks for your kind comment. The typed list is used as a menu. Clicking on the menu items will take you directly to the different chapters of the video. You can close the list items by clicking on the cross icon that appears hovering with the mouse over the text boxes. Yes, we agree, using a thread in a contrasting color would have been the better choice ... We will try to do better with our next videos! Kind regards from Switzerland

How do you select your buttonhole length if you don't have a programmable machine? I have a 350 and this tutorial does not help me

Hi sk8tergirl1988, thanks for asking. Here's a video that shows how to sew buttonholes with a 3 Series machine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LI1xLGEzDxA.html We hope this helps. Happy stitching!

I am using the 3A foot with my Bernini 440QE machine. I follow the instructions exactly but once I press the reverse button, the machine sews in reverse to the starting point and then just sews in place creating a thread knot at the back of the fabric. It doesn't shift to the stay stitching at the top and then start down the right side of the button hole as expected. Help!?! Thanks.

Dear Andi, it is very important to use stabilizer, especially on lightweight fabrics. If the fabric is too soft the foot can get stuck. If using stabilizer doesn't help, please try using a little trick: When lowering the presser foot push the slide back a little bit (1 mm) to change the starting position. We hope this helps. Kind regards from Switzerland

why can't I cancel out a length to make a new length. I have tried clr and it keeps repeating the old length. Thanks

Hi Barbara, thanks for asking. Pressing clr should indeed cancel your previous settings. Can you please let us know which machine model you are using?

My wife's machine does not show 3A as an option when she inserts her presser foot. It calibrates it fine but when she goes to the presser foot selection screen. 3A is not an option. The options jump from 2A to 4.
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 3 года назад
Hello Richard, it is difficult to answer this question without knowing the model number of your wife's machine. In most cases when you select the buttonhole foot 3A is automatically selected.

So where is the 3B?
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational Год назад
Hi isherwood4, foot 3B is shown at 00:24 of the video. It is only used for relatively few models, which are no longer part of our product range since quite some time (BERNINA 125, 125 S, 210, 215, 220). In this video we focus on the general buttonhole sewing technique. If you use foot 3B with one of the models mentioned, you can basically follow this video for sewing automatic buttonholes. Machine specific information can be found in the user manual of your sewing machine. Happy stitching!
