I just bought #64 to hem a bridesmaid dress and tried for hours to get it to feed the fabric right with a piece of the left over fabric. I ended up doing it without it. I really hope I learn use it, it is not cheap. Great video, thanks.

Hi Evelyn, thanks for your comment. We hope this video will help you! An important tip (at 02:13 of the video) is to spray the fabric edge with starch beforehand. Here's an article on weallsew that provides more helpful information: weallsew.com/narrow-hemming-with-bernina-hemmer-feet/ There is also a video with BERNINA of America's fabulous instructor Sylvain on Facebook: facebook.com/BERNINAUSA/videos/504556713934407

Hi Mary, thank you for your comment 😘. We are glad that you like the video. Of course, this video is also available to our dealers. We hope that many dealers use it on their websites and share it on Social Media. In addition, dealers offer practical advice on site in the store where you can test drive BERNINA feet with the help of an expert.

Thanks for the video! Better seeing it demonstrated rather than just reading the instructions that came with the foot. Ah, starting with the fabric UNFOLDED and gathering the threads then slipping the fabric onto the foot. Still not as easy as it looks. Especially with (starched) Rayon. Ugh. I'll give it another try.

HOW do you keep the fabric from slipping out of the coil???
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational Год назад
Hi mclassie77, thanks for asking. Holding the fabric slightly to the left helps preventing it from sliding off the coil. Using starch at the fabric edge beforehand is also helpful. Happy stitching!

When you say, "...just short of the edge of the foot...", are you talking about the side or rear edge of the foot? Also, I have some of these hammers I'm training with, and it definitely takes practice. One use will be making silk pocket pieces for men's sport coat pockets. I'm using a Bernina 1008 I bought new, and also purchased a straight stitch plate, thinking I'd eventually need more support for fine fabrics. Which of these hammers would be best suited for narrow, flat hems on the silk? Thread/needle suggestions, as well as basic guidance on stitch length and thread tension, would be welcomed. Love the 1008 BTW. Too bad you stopped making it. All I need for it is a case. Do you still sell those?

I would have loved to see how to handle fabric for the zigzag and tricot method.
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 2 года назад
Hi Mel, please watch 03:28 for the zigzag and 05:09 for the overlock stitches. Of course, we don't repeat the part about placing the fabric and gliding it into the foot because this stays the same for all the different stitches.

Hi - I have an old Bernina 930. Which rolled hem footer would be suitable? Thank you
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 5 лет назад
Dear T Meeten, all BERNINA hemmer feet with the exception of foot #62 are compatible with your BERNINA 930. For full compatibility information please refer to our accessory catalog: www.bernina.com/en-US/Support-US/Product-Catalogs Hemmer feet are listed on page 19. The letter A in the compatiblity chart means that these feet can be used with your machine (see machine overview on page 2 of the PDF). Kind regards from Steckborn

Easy enough with cottons but how to do it with chiffon, which keeps sliding out ?
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 2 года назад
Hi Shari, thanks for asking! Yes, Chiffon could be a challenge. We recommend that you use spray starch on the fabric edges in order to give the fabric more stability.

@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 3 года назад
Hi Linda, are you referring to the presser feet selection on your machine screen? Which machine are you using and which presser feet do you seen on the screen? The procedure for selecting the feet on the screen depends on the machine. On the 7 Series machines there arrow icons (see 00:38 of video) that can be used to browse the "pages" with presser feet. On other machines, it is possible to scroll. Older machines do not offer any presser foot selection on the screen. You can find more information in your machine's user manual.

Assuming you use a zigzag stitch for either, would the 61 and 68 produce hems that look or lay differently? Would the 61 make a flatter hem, while the 68 would be more "3-dimensional" or rounded? I am attempting to hem a fine polyester mesh and would like the hem to lay flat, but retain some stretch if possible.
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 7 лет назад
Dear Brittany, yes hemmer no. 68 will make a hem more 3-dimensional. It is specially designed to produce an edge that is rounded, rather than flat. When stitched with a zigzag, blindhem, vari-overlock, or universal stitch, a scalloped edge is produced. Hemmer no. 61 produces a very small (2 mm wide), strong, and professional looking hem in fine fabrics. It is specially designed for use with very fine woven fabrics such as batiste, chiffon and other specialty and bridal-type materials. We recommend test driving both feet at your BERNINA dealer. Kind regards from Switzerland

Advice needed: which one of those is best for hemming fabrics like chiffon, georgette, lightweight lining. And which one for hemming light and medium satin/slippery fabrics. I still don't know. Any help is highly appreciated.
@BerninaInternational

Hi Marta, we would recommend Foot #62 (2mm) or #64 (4mm). These are for doing a straight stitch hem and it is up to you if you want to go narrow 2mm or wider with 4mm. This can depend on the project. Treating the fabrics before hemming with a spray starch will give you a nicer hem finish, especially if the fabric is bias cut. Kind regards from Switzerland

Thank you for the helpful video. I wanted to purchase the hemmer foot 66 for my Bernina B380. According to the catalogue the hemmer foot 66 008 485 73 00 is compatible with category B sewing machine (like mine). Nevertheless, a 9mm plate is supposed to be used with that particular hemmer foot but this plate is not compatible with category B sewing machine.... How can this be solved? Thank you.
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 3 года назад
Hi Isabelle, thanks for your comment! In the video we used a BERNINA 790 with a maximum stitch width of 9 mm. Hence, a 9 mm stitch plate is recommended. For your machine (maximum stitch width of 5.5 mm) you will need to use the standard 5.5 mm stitch plate which came with the machine.
@isabellemontpetit5894
@isabellemontpetit5894 3 года назад
Thank you for your response. Is it possible to use my standard 5.5 mm stitch plate with the hemmer foot n°66 without damaging any parts of my machine? In the video, it is clearly recommended to use a 9 mm stitch plate... And for a hemmer foot n°68 or n°69, is my 5.5 mm stitch plate suitable? Thank you.
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 3 года назад
@@isabellemontpetit5894 Hi Isabelle, absolutely! It wouldn't make sense to use a 9 mm stitch plate on a B 380 because the B 380 only has 5.5 mm stitch width. In fact, there is no 9 mm stitch plate for the B 380. Please use your 5.5 mm standard plate. It will work perfectly fine.

Video is NOT helpful when the machine will refuse to allow me to even choose the foot.
@BerninaInternational
@BerninaInternational 2 года назад
Thanks for your feedback. The foot selection option depends on which model you have. Some machines do not have the possibility to select the foot and have it visible on the icon. Your machine indicates 1C which is the default foot for straight stitch. If you select this icon and scroll down, you will see all the hemmer feet listed in the feet possible with this stitch. It is absolutely OK to attach your foot and use it. Don’t be discouraged, the hemmer feet are excellent and give beautiful results.
