I show you step by step and note by note how to play the long attributed to Bach, the famous Minuet in G minor on the piano. It's a simple piece that's really fun to play, and hopefully this helps you learn it faster! :D

Thanks, James. I had some lessons as a schoolboy but never got much past Grade II. Now, aged 70 years and 11 months, I would like to pick it up again and will follow your course. As the course is just starting, I'll give you some feedback: 1. The suggestion to take a screenshot and print it out didn't work well for me. Instead of being black and white the colors were a sort of brown and yellow, so it took a lot of colored ink to print out and it lacked definition and I was struggling to read the small digits for the fingering. 2. For this second piece I downloaded a free .pdf file of the sheet music from the Internet, which being black and white could be printed easily and has good definition. In fact I transferred the file to my e-reader tablet, so didn't use any ink. 3. Would you be able to suggest/recommend a website for downloading free sheet music, perhaps one that you use yourself? That way, everybody would be working from the same score. It might be specially important in the future, if some of the exercises you suggest are more obscure than the easily available Bach Minuets. I hope this helps. Incidentally, for this piece I turned on the "clav" voice of my keyboard, which was "kind of cool". Regards, Peter

John Peter Maughan First of all I would like to thank you for considering my course in music online. I can honestly tell you that you are the very type of person I had in mind when starting this course. Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions you may have and I would be glad to help you in any way I can. Most of my music I use is old vintage from the 1800's as I just think it is kind of cool to use this old sheet music. I do know a lot of people use MuseScore and here is there link. musescore.org/en

They don’t let you download their music anymore unless you have a paid subscription-so I had to drop them, darn.

I like the Fugue's by Bach (but they would be best on your B3). I am loving your teaching series.

IMPRESSIVE James. Wow, really a good help to me and hope you will continue with these tutorials. You are a good teacher and explain everything so well. I am trying to pick up my piano playing again, many years ago had lessons, only got to grade 2 and so want to play like you eventually. Thank you James,Looking forward to the next one. G

I just started to learn the G and the G minor minuets, this was very helpful especially on how yo count that 16th note! 👍🏼

Hi James, Playing the piece slowly really emphasizes the importance of finger placement, especially in complicated pieces which may require larger hands I can't tell if your hands are average or large, I've seen masterful arrangements which cam compensate. I'm always amazed how the great ragtime composers were able to utilize their left hand, those pieces are quite a stretch I see you follow the K.I.S.S philosophy. .:} Cheers, Rik

Yes, keep it simple Sam, or something like that.

It's actually "Keep It Simple Stupid"/. not meant to be insulting,, but to remind anyone that to try to do things with as little effort as possible. No matter what the skill, eventually it becomes "easier" because we train ourselves to relax and develop economy of motion. Or to put it another way"Never let them see you sweat"... :) Rik

Yes, I knew it. I was just trying not to be insulting or anything.

Thank you James, this is really great, and I’m really looking forward to all that you’re planning next! You’re the best! As a beginner with a young family I’d love to invest in an upright piano. I’ve been looking at yamahas. From the B3 to U1/U3 to YUS1/YUS3 which one would you recommend? Its so confusing for me!

I played a U3, and have a video on it, and I liked it quite a lot, it was a good upright piano. Yamaha's pianos are generally pretty consistent, but you'd want to play the piano a little bit yourself and see if you liked the sound of it. The one I played sounded pretty good, but it was the only U3 I have played.

Very nice, James. I enjoyed the tutorial. Now, concerning your series concerning how to play the scales: I think it would be nice if you would teach them how to read key signatures, which really is easy to do. Keep up the good work :-)

May I make a suggestion that it might be easier for those who are a bit slower if you were to finger the right hand first, then the left hand. This way if someone is writing down the fingering, that person has a better chance of getting it down correctly.

Love you enthusiasm for Bach and joy in antique music sheets. Did you inherit these or did you search for them?

We have lots of sheets around as we have been collecting great vintage music forever. If you use music that has been copyrighted in recent times you could get a strike against your channel.
