In this video, I teach and play through the Solar Sentinels version of 20 Strong by Josh Carlson, Salem Scott, and Shannon Wedge, and published by Chip Theory Games. 20 Strong is a solo game system of using 20 dice to overcome challenges and defeat a final boss. The base game comes with Solar Sentinels where you are trying to fight off an alien invasion.

Thanks for this video. I missed the discarding a card at the end of each round rule and also forgot to cancel enemy effects once they were defeated. I used the same hero as you, but got destroyed because I did not defeat any enemies that gave extra recovery and got super low on dice and could not get enough dice back to claw my way back into the game.

wow, i like this game. using this system, they could add so many expansions to this. my copy with too many bones and the victorum expansions should be here soon.

Hey mate, great explanation, but in case of the Boss fight it was my understanding, from the rules video, that enemies will not call for extra enemies, that effect is cancelled in Boss fight. Minute 14.50

At around 19’ couldn’t you have applied the 4th dice too and then discard 4 cards?

Yes, you can by all means apply more hits than needed. I'm not sure why I didn't in this situation.

35:25 Are you allowed to defeat an enemy that's just in one of the stacks and not in the active area?

That was how I understood the rules, but I could very well be wrong here.

@@tabletopforone I question it because most effects that interact with those decks call it discarding. You also get rewards for defeating but not for discarding.

@VindoViper Yeah, your question is quite valid. I forget what the reasoning was behind me interpreting it that way, but in retrospect I probably did it in error.

that was correct. The Solar Sentinels deck specific rule states during cleanup to discard one of the top non mandatory cards. With the Solar Sentinels deck you can go into the end game anytime once a stack is empty so this helps you get there

@@gdavid3583 He wasn't at cleanup though. He was defeating an enemy due to the special text on the enemy he had just killed. The normal discard for end of turn cleanup happened at 35:59 as well.

36:46 Should you not have lost 3 health, as the red dice also rolled 2 hits (crit = 2 hits?)

As I understand it, the critical hit is one "hit" that does two "damage." So, each die can only ever count as one hit. I could be wrong, but great question!

Nice gameplay. The video came earlier than expected. @21 minutes, don't you recover dice if you let the enemy just hit you? I never skipped recovery in my plays.

Yup, 100% right! And that's exactly why you do it, but I was so focused on skipping the after effect. 😆 For some reason, I struggled with the flow of the turns for this game. So, unfortunately I may miss discarding an enemy or recovering dice. Great catch!

@@tabletopforone glad I'm not alone struggling with the turn structure. Another quick tip: Always reroll the red dice in each remaining strategy phase as long you have no crit. Will you also upload gameplays for Hoplomachus and Too Many Bones?

At 44:45 when you "defeat" the boss, you count 9 damage, why? you have 3 crit, which total 6, and 2 hits, that's 8 damage, no? where does the nineth damage comes from ? Edit : HOOOOO The Blood Thresher ability last for the whole engagement, it's not one use effect (ie, all red hit you deal during the apply phase does 3 damage).
