Now that looks effective cheap and simple. Will be attempting this on my layout. Those grass tuffs very nice, like to let us budget railway hobbyists where ya got them would be handy at that price.

Another way to get tall grass is to cut sections out of an inexpensive house paint brush and glue them in clumps of different lengths

I may be late to the game with my comment, but THANK YOU!!! I love the interesting methods that artistic modelers use to create their work, and frequently, there are budget methods that are brilliant, and more rewarding than buying something pre-made or out-of-a-bottle and "presto".... Truth be told, the more scratch-built a model / layout is, the more rewarding it is for me and any other creative type, and the extra money saved can go towards things like the train, cars, etc. I remember years ago chatting with a train shop owner in Canada who also built layouts for people, and I mentioned some method I had learned from a similar tutorial on building terrain. He looked at me patronizingly and like I was nut, but then wanted to sell me all sorts of stuff that would have added up yet produce the same results. And in his shop, the prices would have added up even more quickly because of the ridiculous prices.

Just goes to show that you don't need expensive water making kits to make realistic water. Great Video!

So simple. I love the "value" approach you use, it's right up my street. I'll have to have this a try

To create the look of deeper water you can paint the middle sections of the river a darker colour to those on the edges

In my opinion this is not a "cheap way "; it is a "mind blowing & money saving" way of doing things for the model railway!

ive just watched the international exhibition N gauge 2022 and noticed how some of the layouts had small streams , ponds, and even large lakes built into them and thought i wonder how they get such an effect so i typed budget model railways stream /ponds and yes as expected up it came and it will be a lot cheaper and easier to do than those layouts at the N gauge exhibition Paul
