9:25 love Conrad Bain declining to enter discussions about his TV kids personal problems. What a gentleman, showing respect, dignity and love for his fellow actors
Yes truly a gentleman and a human with very good quality class inner character. Something many celebs and singing entertainers of today could learn a lot from
Its sad Robert Reed was not happy about his roll as Mike Brady, as a kid growing up without a dad he will never know how much he meant to kids like me.
Reed was perfectly cast and anchored that show so well - bringing some much needed gravitas to a lightweight sitcom. He did fine work and is one of the best TV dads of all time. He also loved his TV children as if they were his own.
I agree, He was great as the stern, but loving father figure that we all need in our early years. Hard to believe that he actually despised The Brady Bunch, and was pretty much stuck there due to contract issues. He only joined the reunion shows solely for the children apparently, since he had inadvertently become a real father figure to them from the Brady Bunch, and didn't want to jeapordize them getting more work by refusing to appear.
@@laurasmith8947 He was gay. Just like you have Darlene on Roseanne playing like a straight woman but she's married to a woman so it's okay for a woman to play gay but not a man to play gay

I lost my dad many years ago due to the negligence of a physician. Also, his negligence cost the life of a secondary individual one year after my dad died. No lawyer would take my particular case because this negligent doctor had no medical malpractice insurance. My dad told me shortly before he died that this doctor did not know how to properly care for him. Dad told me that he did not want to go back into the nursing home. I was young and ignorant and did not know what to do at the time. I did not have a home of my own to care for my dad. I blame myself. I love and miss my dad!!
@@laurasmith8947 So sorry for your loss. Lost my dad 3 weeks ago due to nursing home negligence. We couldn't take care of him & neither could the nursing home apparently.
God bless you, Theresa. Same here, my Dad was a total “TV Dad”….but better. Prayers for us all who have lost these real life legends in our lives. ❤️❤️❤️
RIP to Robert Reed and Conrad Baine. Both those men were great actors. It is 4/22/2019 and I just checked on John Astin. And it shows that John is still alive! I am glad to know John has lived this long. God bless him!
Conrad Bain's Phillip Drummond will always be my fav TV dad. I heard Conrad himself is just like his character, full of integrity, respectful and a gentleman. Love him!❤️💯
You can tell Bob was touched by Barry's admiration of his accomplishments... Bob really loved him like a son. Really sad the way his life ended. He really died alone in a hospital room because he was so embarrassed about his HIV diagnosis. He didn't want anyone to know the truth.
Isn’t it terrible that people were forced to live a double life back then? Florence Henderson said it certainly contributed to his unhappiness, and she had a lot of compassion for him.
This is a good show, never seen it before today! Love John Astin and my bro in law, (R.I.P. Corny Ramirez!) built Robert Reeds pool! Love hearing all the stories! I'm with the man who thanked these men for being a part of our lives, i too have fond memories of them and wished my dad had been more like them.
Yes. I love Ms. Sally Jessy Raphael. She seems like a really nice lady and I love her calm and smoothing voice hosting her show and talking to her guests because Some talk show hosts have a loud and annoying voice.
@@dutchman063 He wasn't an asshole. He would battle with the writers to make the scripts better for all the actors on the show and to elevate the storylines. So, from that aspect he was considered difficult. In hindsight, the producers appreciated his efforts. He mentored all the kids on their acting and was known to take the whole cast on trips to the theater and even to London. He really was a very classy man.
Yea Uncle Phil would have been awesome to see on this show honoring tv dads! But I guess bc this was about older shows and fresh prince was new at this point
The Brady bunch was and still is my favorite show. I don't care what kind of lifestyle any of them had or has. I would watch anything that has anyone of them in it after the baby bunch. I saw Berry Williams at Toys R Us. We couldn't get an autograph or take pictures of him. I still liked seeing him. Godbless them all.
It amazes me how Barry tells Todd that he came into show biz with the issues. And when Todd rejected his belief, Barry says: that’s your opinion. How about that’s Todd’s truth.
AAAANNND, post-2000, Barry was CORRECT. Todd was abused. So, he suppressed a lot of issued BEFORE the show began. But a hit dog hollers...and Todd wasn't ready to reveal this, yet. Not until the 2010s, of course.
It was very awkward indeed. It was obvious Barry and Todd both came up from different ways into the industry. I hope that they don't have issues with each other due to difference of opinions.
This show was aired about 30 years ago. I totally remember Mike Brady, Mr. Drumond and Gomez Addams. They all did a very good job in playing a real good role in being a Dad.
All six Brady kids seem to have turned out OK. There’s been rough patches along the way for some. But at least they’re all still alive 40 plus years later.
Reed perfectly articulates a great quality about the Brady Bunch at the 30 min mark. The show was fun and often silly, but there was always a good morality to it, one in which parents had authority, discipline and instilled a sense obligation into their kids. This is great, btw! As a fan of classic tv, I am thrilled you posted it. Thanks!
Love all of these gentlemen and miss the ones that are no longer with us may they r.ip loved different strokes and all of these wonderful shows that you dont see these kind of shows anymore miss them all
John Astin is a legend...says a lot that the Addams family only went for 2 years but its absolutely so legendary and there's been like three remakes of it and stage productions.
And 2 years later from your comment Johnny is still alive and add in 1 more Addams Family Remake as in WEDNESDAY! As hopefully John returns to do some kinda role in the Night Court Revival as Buddy and also shows up in the WEDNSDAY series as some kinda Ancient Addams Family Member!
I liked Robert Reed's nifty mustache he grew after Brady Bunch went off the air. His hair became very curly. Apparently, he liked the mustache as he often sported in his acting work. The sad part is that Robert was to die a year or so after the clip here represented.
I.Appreciate All The Actors Who.Plays TV Dads ; From The Past Up To The Present. I Know Some Are Gone Like Robert Reed ; Conrad Bain ..I Do Miss My Beloved Dad Too..He's Been Gone 28 Yrrs
To me the greatest tv dads was two guys.. Bil Bixby (Courtship of Eddies Father) and Joel Higgings who played Edward Stratton on Silver Spoons. And it had nothing to do with him being rich and having that kick ass train you could ride through the house.. He was just amazing, super funny and a big kid himself.
Thanks for posting this. If this is 1991 its one year before Robert Reed passes away from colon cancer and AIDS. He looks good here so it must be right before his diagnosis.
He had a lot of problems he tried to hide on The Brady's (1990) and seemed to rest more often than not in trailer. Henderson recalls how tired he looked and that people sensed something. She saw him take a handful of large pills at one time and thought he might have HIV. It is not known due to how private he was when he was diagnosed but I heard his daughter saw it was a year. He was not a happy person mostly because he had to hide who he was and wasn't comfortable with that. He also never really had a relationship with his daughter until near the end of his life. This may be why the Brady kids were like a surrogate family for him. Talented person but one who really didn't like himself.
@@g.d.roberts196 - So you are saying anyone who was diagnosed with AIDS 30 years ago didn't like themselves because they did not make it public? Uh....no, they knew they would be shunned if that news became public. One thing I can tell about Robert Reed is that he had a lot of self-confidence and he did like himself. With good reason too because he was one hell of a great man.
@@shyman99 I don't think you are understanding everyone's comments and putting a spin on them that is not there. Just like you misinterpreted my comment, you did the same with G. Roberts. Chill.
@@Wild1995 - How did I misinterpret this statement by G Roberts: "Talented person but one who really didn't like himself". You criticized Barry for claiming to know Todd Bridges' life but are okay with G Roberts claiming to know how Robert Reed felt about himself? Talk about a hypocrite.
I thought he (Barry Williams) looked young for 65. Did you see him on HGTV for the Brady Bunch house renovation? Just what I thought. It was a good show.
Robert Reed doesn't seem good here...appearance wise, you can tell he is beginning to lose weight....such a gentleman, good looking and respectful. We miss Mike Brady, America's favorite dad....
Wow! It's good to see this it just came on my feed. Love the connection between Mr. Conrad Bain and Todd Bridges. Todd Bridges was one of my childhood crushes😂 and it's good to see he is done well in life now.
It’s really sad that Robert Reed felt that he had to hide his sexuality and died relatively young. But it’s good thing that Society has come a long way over the last 30 years
Maybe it wasn't that he "had to hide" it. Maybe he just thought it was no one's business and not relevant. Judging by the way he speaks here, he was very intelligent, wise and mature, much more so than today's left-wingers who think identity politics is everything.
David & BLT: You are 100% correct. We were just out of the 1980's here, where some ambulances & morticians would NOT handle those with AIDS. Got Aids Yet? (GAY! Get it? *chuckle*chuckle*). The kind of "humor" religious types and right wingers were dispensing, at that time. Hey John, you remember this "knee slapper" don't you? What does AIDS stand for? Another Repub with selective memories, I suspect.
