Dalek is just a piece of the puzzle. There’s so much information that I want now, but I have to keep watching the show to get it. That’s a good thing though. Enjoy!

Good god the buffering! I kept instinctively checking my own internet! Glad you're enjoying it so far.

Rose had time energy from traveling in the TARDIS, which is what helped the Dalek to revive when she touched him

Daleks are a warrior race. Their only purpose in life is to exterminate all life forms that aren't dalek. Their hatred of other lifeforms and urge to kill is in their blood. They are basically a nazi allegory. At the end of this episode the last living dalek was no longer a pure dalek so it killed itself.

The daleks terrified me as a young kid in the early 70s. They were relentless.

The Daleks are the iconic villains of Doctor Who. The Doctor and the Daleks go way way back since 1963.

If you want to know more then keep watching the series. But the answers are like a jigsaw puzzle and you won't get the pieces in any kind of order. Also, as you said, the Doctor is about 900 years old so he has a huge backstory, too big to be told in just one series.

Been waiting for this for so long! Looking forward to more! By the way there's a thing called "Artron Energy" that rubs off on people who stay in the Tardis for a while - I'd say that's what the Dalek absorbed from Rose,

Daleks were a race that survived a nuclear war but discovered they were mutating, so they developed a travel machine to ensure their survival. There's a lot more to this backstory, but I don't want to spoil anything if you decide to watch classic Who later.

The show has been running since the early 60s, all of the history of the daleks is contained within this decades spanning show....

The Daleks were introduced in 'classic Who' which ran from 1963-1989 and are everyone's favourite villains. The story 'Genesis of the Daleks' from 1974 tells their origins, written by Terry Nation who created them. It fits in well with the Time War plot line developed for the revived show. In the 2005 revival, there was some concern that they could not be used but Terry Nation's estate allowed it.

Hello there, just googled Doctor Who Reactions to see anyone new, and there you were. Nice reaction and good questions. Will the Doctor ever talk about the Time War? Will we ever see it? You'll have to settle in for the long haul. So, not watching every episode, eh? Hmm . . . Season 1: You have to watch 8, 9 and 10. And 12 and 13, plus the Christmas special, The Christmas Invasion (Christmas invades the Earth, everyone turns into plum puddings) Season 2: 1 to 6, 8 & 9, 12 & 13 plus the Christmas Special, the Runaway Bride (the Doctor is transformed into a woman and has to escape an arranged marriage to a Slitheen) Season 3: 1& 2, 4 & 5, 8 to 13 (the internet will haunt you if you miss any of those out) , plus the Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned (a title so ominous I can't actually think of anything comical to invent for it) Season 4: 1 to 3, 8 to 13 (the internet will haunt you etc etc) There are 5 specials in between Seasons 4 and 5 and all are compulsory, sit up straight and stop fidgeting, tissues at the ready. I'll leave it there as that's quite enough to be getting along with! I've been watching Doctor Who since - well, probably not the very start because I was too young, but I certainly remember the Second Doctor very well (the one you're watching is the Ninth). I have - er - mixed feelings about the very recent seasons but this run from 2005 to, well, a couple of years ago, provides some of the best and most idea-driven science fiction on TV. Hope you stick with it, and I'm going to subscribe!

Thank-you so much, that gives me plenty to work with. While I won't have a reaction video for every episode I will absolutely be watching every episode. I already have plenty of questions, I don't want to cause myself to have more.

The chances are that whenever the Doctor gets loud and vocal about some enemy,that enemy will be part of the long history of the show. In this instance,the Daleks go all the way back to almost the beginning of the show - the First Doctor encountered them in only his second story...and they never went away,after that! All the Classic Doctors fought them,and it was one of the big questions that fans were asking when they heard that the show was coming back: will the Daleks be in it? (Because 'Doctor Who' without Daleks is just unimaginable)

Rose as a time traveller had a specific kind of dna alteration the Dalek was able to feed off of and use to repair itself. And the "It can't go up stairs" is a long time joke from the original series so this was the show's way of "upgrading" them.

Your buffering issue will be helped if you start the video, immediately pause it, go off and make a cup of tea (or coffee) then come back a few minutes later when it’s buffered some...

If I remember rightly, the Time War preceded the very first episode which was broadcast on BBC in the early 1960s. Daleks have been a recurring villain ever since, including in a couple of Dr Who movies. Originally they couldn't levitate or fly, so they could be escaped by going upstairs. Daleks being able to fly was an innovation in this episode, for the Dr Who reboot. As well as being genocidal and hard to destroy, the horror of Daleks had to do with how slowly they moved - but unstoppably. They just kept coming. There's something dreamlike about something that 3 mile an hour pursuit which really worked and gave generations of kids nightmares about them.

The Time War was Russell T Davies' invention for the reboot. It was designed to relieve new viewers of the extensive backstory and writers of having to deal with same. Best. Leo.

Remembrance of the Daleks in 1988 was technically the first time we saw a Dalek navigate stairs, but you're right that this was the episode that finally broke the ongoing joke about their stair-climbing ability.

I'm going to say what I say to every reactor to DW, watch "Genesis of the Daleks" from Classic Who. It's one of the first episodes I watched as a kid. You're not going to be thrown off because you watched it out of sequence with all of Classic Who. Hell they don't even have every episode of Classic Who available they destroyed them. It's honestly like watching the guide to the Daleks, it is the source of all the Canon that Modern Who is running off of for Daleks. It's a 3 hour run time of 6, 30 minute episodes but you'll stop asking so many questions. After Season one, watch it... You'll thank me later.

Hi, really interesting reaction. I know you said you don't necessarily want to go back in time, but I think you might be well served by a dip backwards into 20th century Who at this point. It's by no means essential to watch 20th C Who to get the 21st C stuff, 21st C Who is carefully written to expose it bit by bit. But it's an option and I would say if it's an option to take, try Genesis of the Daleks (1975) (It's two and a half hours long.): I'd say that's the most essential story to watch in relation to this episode, and would give you some idea of how long this has been going on!

Rose is soaked in energy absorbed in the time vortex just as anyone regularly travelling through it would be. The dalek absorbed this when she touched it and used it to get free.... its explained more clearly in a later episode.. Ps the daleks are b stards and best destroyed, never fall for their sob stories!

Great Doctor Who reaction. As said below, there is a massive backstory for the Daleks and every other nemesis in the series. Sometimes there are multiple inconsistent histories. The Daleks were the original enemies in the second story set of 1963, and are a mainstay of every DW season. The original series ran for 26 years, ending in 1989. Then 2005 until present. There have been 13 Doctors in total, so far, and regeneration is what happens to a Time Lord when they are mortally wounded. They grow a new body, and are different in personality, but live on and still retain the memories of the Doctor. So all are still The Doctor. If you want to test the waters with some old Who. I would also suggest, Horror At Fang Rock, or Robots of Death, from the Tom Baker 70's era. Personally, I would recommend the following if you are just going to pick a few episodes from each season; 3-1 Smith and Jones. 4th season specials, Waters of Mars and Planet of The Dead. 5-1 The Eleventh Hour. 5-10 Vincent and The Doctor

loving your reactions I think your doing 9 and 10 next and I hope you do 12 and 13 , you will find out more about the time war as the series progress so don't worry your questions will be answered , also darleks can use time energy to power themselves so because rose has travelled in time she is covered in time energy

I thought it was explained in the episode that somehow the Dalek used her DNA which was transferred by her touch. It's important to get these made-up details correct, isn't it? Best. Leo.

@@michaelbastraw1493 I have watched doctor for years and they said maybe not in this episode that the darkeks during the time war found away to use time energy to power themselves since they where fighting the timelords , now since rose travelled through time she has it on her this is why when others touch the darlek it killed them where it new rose had the energy so it aborted it as well as her DNA

Time war yes they spoon feed you that over coming seasons , but the history of the daleks is from original series how they were created the time war period is the 16 years doctor who was off air but they do fill it in , but for example the doctor was around 500 when he went to fight but was 900 when it ended , but they cover it in special holiday episodes and anniversary specials there is a lot more to learn and without going back you will eventually get to hear all about it and see parts of it , but you will need to be patient it takes a bit of time ,

@lbd-po7cl
@lbd-po7cl 3 года назад
Your patience with the buffering is commendable, but I do recommend you pre-download the episode rather than stream if you can. Daleks are the iconic Doctor Who villian, and first appeared way back in 1963 in the first season of the original classic show. They're a warrior race that fought an endless war on their home planet, and mutated into the squid like creature, encased in an impregnable armoured mini tank. They're goal is to conquer and destroy all other species, and are obsessed with racial purity - effectively space Nazis. As for the Time War, you'll learn more about it over coming episodes and seasons, but it was introduced as part of the reboot of Doctor Sho in 2005, and was not part of the old Classic series. Also, the name of the show, Doctor Who, indicates he's a man of mystery and secrets, but they will be revealed as time goes on. As for recommendations of episodes to react to, if you're not going to react to them all, I'd suggest these: Series 1 - 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, followed by the Christmas Special A Christmas Invasion. Series 2 - 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, followed by the Christmas special The Runaway Bride Series 3 - 1, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 Series 4 - to be honest, this is one of the best seasons, so I'd recommend reacting to all of it, followed by the Christmas Special and all 4 specials thereafter, but in a pinch if you had to pick the specials to react to I'd go with Waters of Mars and End of Time parts 1 and 2. Basically, this show gets better with each series, so it gets hard to select episodes for reactions. There are another 8 series/seasons after the ones I've listed (so far), but that should do for now. Hopefully you'll be invested enough to react to it all! Good luck. I'm looking forward to the rest 🙂👍.

You're one of the few - if not the only - reactor to specifically mention the painting! It actually says everything about Van Statten. It's an appropriated image. The original 'Portrait Of A Man or Mr Tadeusz de Lempicki', was by Tamara De Lempicka and painted in 1928. Obviously not Henry van Statten from 2012. About as far away from being original as he can get and a poser!

Hi! 1 - plenty. I've been posting movie reactions for over 2 years, and TV show reactions since December. They are all here on RU-vid. 2 - with Doctor Who this video is as far as I've gotten. I'm just beginning. 3 - I do have a list of shows I want to react to. Many have requested I continue with both Doctor Who and Glee so there will be more of those with other shows mixed in. 4 - I am not. I've seen a little and at the moment am not interested in watching more. Thank-you for your comment!
