I finally finished it. I know this was promised 2 weeks ago but I kind of took a break instead of finishing my work. So now I’m finishing the 4 videos I promised at the end of January. The Queen’s Gambit. I’ve actually rewatched the series and I enjoyed it even more than the first time. Watching the first 4 episodes here I was fascinated by chess and hoping that she would survive her coping mechanisms. She seems so sure of herself but she’s really not. I love Beth’s character and her development through the mini-series. Enjoy!

Of the reactions I've seen to The Queen's Gambit, younger people seem to be much more suspicious of Mrs. Wheatley's motives than other folks....even after she asks about a VERY modest 10% "commission" and Beth, herself, volunteers 15% as a counter. Alma is clearly a woman who's been damaged by an abusive relationship but she and Beth, it seems to me, do really form a close and genuine bond.

One thing I really love about this show is the design. Lots of geometric patterns in the clothing, sets, really all over the place.

I felt the same way after every episode. I didn’t want it to end. 7 episodes for all of it was way too short. It was so well done, and Anya Taylor-Joy was incredible

Nice! Glad you're doing this show....this actress (Anya Taylor-joy) was also excellent in the film The Witch (and a reaction of it would be awesome, too). Rocky and Pee Wee's Big Adventure are some other films (both beloved classics) i recommend. Cant wait for part 2!

I think the perception that Beth is being used is wrong. Does Alma benefit from the wins? Yes. However, Beth set the boundaries, not Alma. Beth disclosed the information that more opportunities were available if Alma would allow her to pursue them. That's not being used. I went through my childhood as a prodigy piano player. When I wanted to stop, I stopped. When I wanted to study computers I did that and my parents supported me, even when it was hard. Alma is being supportive. She's not using Beth.

Gen Z is especially paranoid about the motivations of adults. It's sad, really, being taught to have trust issues with everyone from a young age.

This was supposed to go up in January so I'm very slowly playing catch up. Thank-you for taking the time to comment even though you didn't like the show. Hopefully you'll enjoy some of the videos in March.
