Thank you so much for sharing this video. I am new to polymer clay and I just got my extruder from Amazon. Haven’t used it yet but this gives me some great ideas. Thanks 😁
Thank you! The link in the Description takes you to the tutorial. I have an edit going through to make this video less dark... I hope it works well. ;) xx
I honestly don't know and because I use my extruder for polymer clay, I don't want to potentially mess it up by experimenting... But if you can grab a cheap extruder (Amazon have them) it might be worth a try. Give it a good wash as soon as you are finished though. x
Val, The half round disk of Makins is perfect to extrude in scrap clay, to serve as the base when making a bangle. Just extrude a piece long enough to go around your fizzy drink tin (or longer if you need it) and bake it. Then you can decorate it with an inner and outer veneer.
I have another use for extruded clay. You can use the long, thin strings or strips to make your own texture stamps! Just get a thick slab of scrap clay, cut it to whatever size your want your stamp to be, and then use the strings to make patterns on the slab. I made a really pretty basket weave texture this way and it was fun!
I just watched the soutache video, very interesting, thanks for referring to it. The only thing I didn't like about that video, was the music. And that's one of the things I love about your videos, no music, just your lovely voice.
Funny that you call yourself Grambo. I thought I was unique because my Grandkids call me that since I'm a tough Grammy and not frail like some grandmothers. I play ball, catch frogs whatever. I never say no and love to hang out with the kids. Of course now they are teenagers, I'm still best friends with them.
My granddaughter started calling me Grambo when she started talking now her children call me that too. Grandkids and great-grandkids are Gods greatest gift.
Ain't that the truth. It's been said by some that the only reason to have children is to have Grandchildren! Wish you the best from one Grambo to another Grambo
13:50 Yes! that is what I was looking for! that pattern is called the Hourglass in the quilting world. Lol. I want to make beads that shows my quilting and you gave me that idea! thank you! Great video!💙🐝💙
Thank you for this video! I've had an extruder for years and never used it because I just didn't know what to do with it lol. Now I can't wait to try some of your ideas :).
Hi there! I have a whole drawer full of different colors of polymer clay, (among many other crafty things) & always looking for new ideas! I had no idea what to do with extruded clay, but thanks to your video, now I do! I just ordered my 1st polymer clay extruder, so I'm pretty excited to try it out when it gets here!
Hi Valerie, Glad you are back. Love the textured piece you surrounded the pendant with. I have made the smooth edging one before, but never thought to use the metal mold in that way. Always looking for more bail designs too so that was great as well.
I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. I am so glad that you are back to your Unruly Tutorials again. As well as being a good instructor, I always get a laugh. It’s just your personality, you are a fun person. Again, I’m so glad you’re feeling better.
I'm so glad I found your channel! I recently took up polymer claying and starting watching you videos. I bought an extruder online the other day after watching you knitted ornament tutorial. Now you've given me even more ideas for my extruder! Thanks for sharing you knowledge!
Same here. I started playing with clay 2 weeks ago and I haven't put it down since! Got an extruder today and pasta machine is on its way. I need to learn how to use it all! So in short or long , thank you for teaching us 💜
I know how hard it is to craft when your depressed or your heart is broken, so I was very happy to see a post from you! Gets me out of my funk. Then you introduce me to Soutache 😈. I have so many polymer clay, glass & simi precious beads that I want to try it. I also love the cracked technique and combining the two would be awesome. But dammit my oven broke and cannot be repaired. 😢 my toaster oven cannot be trusted to hold the correct temp. I could just play but with 2 young kids & a cat it would get ruined before I could cure them. I ❤ your stuff keep on claying!
Noooo! My oven broke but I have a smaller one above it, so I have been using that. I don't own a toaster oven. Getting our oven fixed will be so expensive we might at well buy a new one. Grrr! Hope you get yours soon! xx
Unruly Housewife, we are in the same situation, I swear you're my twin across the pond! The third time the technician was here to fix it (2 years ago) he had a hard time finding the part we needed. For all the money we put into fixing it we could have bought 2 new range units. So we got the toaster oven to "get by" until we can replace the unfixable wall-mount with a range. Unfortunately this house doesn't make things easy or cheap so now we have to hire a contractor to move the gas line to put in a range. I did tried to bake a cake in the toaster oven & FAILED miserably so I'm not going to jeopardize my clay art in it. I have a feeling when we do get a new oven it will probably break with all the stuff I'm going to bake. 😂
You can find a friend with a working oven and teach them how to make something. Or make it a group night with a bunch of friends meeting at someone's house. If you don't have child care, bring the kids into the group and let them make something too.
Thank you ! This was so informative, I have used my extruded but never have thought of using it in the way you did. I am very grateful for the video !,
I bought the extruder/drill bit from Makin. I have damaged hands so I really needed it. It works! I wrap a piece of rubberized shelf liner around it and go to town. It makes my canes so much easier and I can get more complex with them by using them.
Brilliant, love the Lilac and White cane with the triangles. I finally got around to buying an extruder (got it today 🎉) so I'll be experimenting with the various disc's provided. I'm so happy to have found your channel, such wonderful ideas.
Oooh! Great ideas Val! I must resist the temptation to get my extruder out - I have a couple of commissions..... but once they're over and done...... Watch out clay extruder, here I come! It's so nice to see you back on my screen, take your time, we'll still be here! XxxX
So, might I ask, what makes you unruly? Thank you for taking the time to explain and show what can be done with the extruder. I really like the spiraling clay that forms a holder for chains (sorry, the word eludes me). I've seen a lot of "chain" work done in clay, and now, I realize how part of that work was from using the extruder. Again, THANK YOU for the great tutorial!🔘🔲🔳🖤🤍
I love your videos. I'm learning all I can. But I no I have to jump in and give it a try. I like hearing your voice. I'm from Texas so I don't no what you would think of mine haha. Sorry to here about your mama. God bless you.
Lovely to see you again. Great video with lots of very useful ideas. I have not made the most of my extruder yet, but your ideas make me want to play more. TFS.
When the clay comes out of my extruder it has cracks as if it will break, even though I condition the clay for several minutes with my hands and pasta machine, why is this?
I'm not sure. I tend to gently roll or smooth mine a little if necessary (after it comes out) but honestly it is what it is. Google might have ideas. Normally the bits look good once they are in place and often the middle of the extrusion is less cracked than the ends (or start).
How does it work for you? I have the same one and everytime I use it, it's like scraping the metal and paint off into the clay. It turned my white clay grey😭
Hi ya, You're claying again so that's positive😊 Ok extruded tubes are fantastic! Currently using them for stems on my clay sculptures. They are great as tube bead bases, bails. Really endless fun. Tea Kelli D.🇨🇦

Thank you for sharing these twelve examples, and thanks for the links too! I've never heard of Soutache, or the ragged edge, but love learning new things!!! - I enjoy watching your videos so much!
Hi just found you today. Your channel looks so useful. I had one of these extruders in a job lot of crafting items, didn't have a clue what it was for! I'm wondering how much you put in the extruder for the samples you've shown. Thankyou.
I had an extruder in my Amazon cart for about a week, going back and forth on whether I should get it or not. I decided not. Then your video popped up in my suggestions. Buying the extruder must be meant to be. Thank you for the wonderful ideas! Cheers! 😁🤍
I'm sorry for your loss. Thank you for this video. I'm an older lady who is just beginning to work with clay, and just bought an extruder. This helps a lot to see the possibilities.

Thank you so much for sharing the techniques . God bless you in abundance . Accept my condolences on the passing away of your dear mother . May her soul rest in peace
Hi, I'm a new follower and I really love the knitted look you do. I'm thinking of getting an extruder for just doing that design. I know it's been awhile now but I'm sending my sincere sympathy to you on your mums passing xo
Noooo! There are plasticisers in raw polymer clay that don't play well with food and might also make plastic bits in your dishwasher go permanently sticky!
I know this was the beginning of 2018, but I am just catching up on videos I've missed. The reason I've missed videos is I to lost my Mum, she passed away in November, I was ill before, and with different things that have happened, even now I can't get into my craft room, I just can't do anything. Mum was 83 and had a good long life, but it doesn't matter cause I'm the one left behind, there is no one to ring now to tell when I've read or seen something. I'm sorry you have also lost your Mum, it's not easy is it? Huggles xxxAnnxxx
Sorry this reply is so late and that I missed it. It's very hard to lose your Mum and I know exactly how you feel about showing her things, or ringing her. I hear things that would have really made my Mum laugh, but I can't tell her. I haven't really been myself for a long while but I guess we will bounce back. I hope you're on the mend. xx
@@UnrulyHousewife Looking forward to it. I would say you have a creative mind that enjoys exploring new media. The difference between someone who can throw pots their entire life (and perhaps become very well known) and someone like Alexander Calder who created in many media.
I love watching videos by people from my generation and older. Potato quality camera, index cards... that's not sarcasm. I really do. There's no filler ya know. Just a person sharing their skill without all the fluff. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can make out of these tips. Thank you!
So sorry to hear, my condoolences. Thank you for this video, those uses were really cool. Somehow I've misplaced all of the disks for my extruder :(. Probably have to buy a new one, it was very cheap anyway. Nice to have you back, Val, take care. BIG HUGS : )
So, those pieces for making hollow beads...if you don't have them or the ones you bought don't fit...I saw a pin on Pinterest to use a nail (like from the hardware store) in combination with the disks to make hollow beads. I haven't tried it yet, though.
