Well as someone who has tried this in my travels, I ended up with about 40% of models being Lord of the Rings or Sigmar. I wish it was as easy as 'drive to new city, pick up new relevant 40k model for my specific army, repeat' but even when I asked for 40k specifically (as the other guy said) they didn't always have one available.

Got a tabletop store near me that mainly has warhammer, but sells it 15%-25% cheaper than gw prices. Definitely has saved me hundreds of dollars in spending

Horus heresy units are underrated. The mk3 marines cost aprox. 50$ in my country and you get 20 of them. These can be proxyed as intercessors or maybe sternguard veterans, explaining the old armour. They cost about the same as an intercessor kit (a bit more) but you get double the amount of minis. Same for the new assault marines for heresy which can be proxyed as jump pack intercessors or vanguard vets and are again double the amount of minis for just a little more money

One kitbash/conversion I have found super useful and economical: The Black templar Crusader Squad: With the addition of some kitbashed shields and a few extra power swords you cna turn the kit into 6x bladeguard vets, and still have 4 bodies left over that make good scouts.

Works GREAT as Dark Angles with the robes. I did have to scrape off a few BT symbols and remove the chains from the weapons, but over all yeah, it works just fine as non black templar.

Patience and controlling FOMO is the best way to save in the long run. You'll find a big influx of models onto the 2nd hand market 3-6 months after release as people sell off projects they never got around to and meta chasers sell off to afford the next hot release wave.

@@MsManualesI don’t think it’s meant to be a universal truth but it’s probably a lot more accurate than you think. Yes, if you want the full kill team box to play kill team you can’t rely on this method, but if you just want one side of it for 40k it works really well just delayed gratification

I wonder if he just makes them in bulk and releases them over time. The only time I can see him just make and drop them in a day was when GW was dropping those indecies left and right at the start of 10th.

My theory is that Auspex is actually just the voice for an entire team; they likely keep him locked up in a recording booth in some village with a brutally English sounding name - something like "Anthill Upon Pigeonford". Poor Auspex has to record one of these voiceovers if he wants to eat that day, which is why there are so many videos. If only we knew the number for the police in Weaseldowns Under Dungbeetle, we could free him! Oh! We can get Auspex to start each script with a letter that will ultimately spells out Puddingpie At Blokefork so we know where to send the SAS! I'd say they'd be able to rescue the poor emaciated guy, but with his output, they'd likely need crane and lorry to cut him out of his booth. 🤣

Finally someone who recognizes the Heirotek circle killteam as a discount set! A battleline and HQ for $55-$65 depending on where you are gettng it, not mention a whole sprue of custom bits for conversions and kitbashes. If you get fancy with it the Despotek and Apprentek who if given spare legs can both be used as proxies for other HQ's

I got the 9th edition Partworks magazine - I absolutely recommend it. It's got a tonne of lore and missions on top of all the models, as well as paints for some early issues. TOP TIP - your local GW shop will usually sell the first issue, then you've got to go to a local supplier (Forbidden Planet is good in my experience) to get the rest. You also usually get extras if you subscribe, sometimes to the point of nearly being an extra half of an army. If you're tempted to buy the last run, I recommend checking online to see if the issue is cheaper than buying the models themselves - it's usually fine for model issues, but it can be 50/50 with paints. The upside is that the issues with paints sometimes have discontinued ones, which can be good to stock up on.

I've through the years bought mostly 2nd hand or ebay armies/lots, gotten them played them etc, then when they get a codex sold units or armies for at least even. sometimes on facebook can swap them up in value if its FOTM i got. This allows me to keep up with changes for my main army and experience different models. Recently traded SoB for white scars and sold the rest to fund more DKOK killteams to customize. only paying maybe 10-20% of MSRP atm. so its far less expensive than it looks. like an investment, can grow it and trade it for less direct injections of money. ....Or so I tell the wife ;)

Casual reminder when buying Black Library books ship them to games workshop store so they wrap it in plastic for protection since if you ship to your home they just put it in a box without any protection for some reason

@@JawaBob I would go in and look inside local hobby stores, one place near me doesn't have much of anything on their site but instore they have Gw pots for 4 bucks and minis at a 20-25% discount with a range larger than my local GW store. if you want to find a store with a better discount than 15% that is probably your best bet.

Tbh standard of living is so much higher in Oz to UK that it probably comes out in the wash Stripping minis from ebay is such an amazing way to go - got a Captain with Relic shield painted terribly for £5.70, stripped him and looks good as new!

I think as customers we need to start voting with our wallets. The price of some of the GW releases is just insane. £27 for the recently released 1 x space marine sized figure is just daylight robbery.

On the topic of using the Age of Darkness box set to jump-start a 40k Space Marine army, you'll want to be mindful that the Spartan has a longer hull than the regular land raider. Fortunately however, the side sponson sprues it comes with are the same ones used in the Proteus Land Raider kit and come with the option to build them as twin-linked or quad lascannons.

My LGS sells WH40K products at the usual third-party retailer 15-20% discount compared to GW, and I’ve earned an extra 3% loyalty program discount. I’ve recently discovered a new LGS that offers up to 30% discount on certain 10e products, and many older products are priced at 2022 prices (or lower). Best of all, the store had products in-stock that have been sold out everywhere else since 10e launched, including the elusive Land Raider Redeemer that I desperately wanted for my Black Templars army. Other money-saving tips are to monitor Amazon’s price fluctuations by placing items “Save For Later” and buy them when the price drops. I’ve also acquired used armies from casual players outside my circle, some of whom chose 10e as their exit point and others who dove into 10e headfirst and couldn’t handle the time investment for assembly and painting, so they cashed out. My best advice to avoid over-spending on WH40K is to buy in manageably small batches, i.e. the Necrons 10e codex release, and assemble and paint them together. If you buy too much too fast, the pile of shame can become too daunting and you end up wasting money.

I straight up stopped buying product from the US as a US resident. MAP agreements are anti-consumer, and thankfully illegal in the EU. So I look for the best discount on Euro prices and simply eat it on shipping. Thanks to the more favorable GW currency conversion rate between the Pound and the Euro, and the still favorable conversion rate between the Euro and the Dollar, I generally enjoy 25% off US MSRP and sales tax as the US has no VAT. So, anybody in Germany or France want to set up a sidle hustle, GW models to Americans, Canadians, and Australians can probably get you a decent margin and you'd be helping out the non-UK Anglosphere. If only I could find a game store in Ireland that will ship across the Atlantic. Google translate only gets me so far with the current stores I shop!

@@ssch.5505 A simple example: Codex Space Marines retails for €45, or about US$50. US price is $60. I can get it from the EU for €33.75, and then eat about €15 to ship. That's STILL cheaper than buying it in the US. If I do a larger order and catch a break on shipping the discount percentage improves significantly.

@@ssch.5505 Yes even on Ebay buying from europe and paying 10-20$ shipping can still be cheaper than US stuff. Most kits are nearing double price (usd to pound) so if you find a bundle or just a large model the shipping hurts alot less.

The Space Marine Boardgame with Titus is NOT region locked to the USA, aou can get it in germany and austria in some spezific storechains direct or via online ordering. Do not know the rest of europa, but i think there will also be some picked sellers for it. It's the same with the other Boardgames and the Heroes collections.

My LGS has a buy 2 get 1 free around the holidays so usually i bulk out my army with those juicy big models. I bought 3 combat patrols for around 300 USD. Which is cheaper than Amazon. I never buy character models i just kitbash. And the named heroes i usually ask people to gift them to me.

Just going back to magnets how strict really are people e.g. I play with orks if I had say 55 slugga / choppa boys + 5 big shoota would most players force me to play as such or would most just accept say 60 slugga choppa? Side note what is peoples general on colour (if my orks are kinda painted generic could I play as any type or would people say you can’t use if you have mixed colours) e.g. I have mork and gork yellow and blue would that mean I can’t use them together

People might be looking for a cheep way into warhammer. I figure it's a great time for GW to introduce a single kit line that gives you one person(any of the factions) to build and paint because it's ONE UNIT it's collectable and a great entry point for people getting into the painting side of the hobby! Sure $40+%for a captain unit!( stand alone) but what about 1 space marine to paint with a pamphlet that, Shows you how to paint and the lore of that unit!? 1 aldari, 1 tyranid, 1 ORK! 1 of the voltaan!?

Kill team did this for me, I got to make and paint one squad or so of different factions and find out what I like to build and paint for big 40K, for example I don’t like Sisters of Battle, the models are too thin and spindly for my taste, and I love kitbashing Marines, and painting Custodes because brain shut off gold everywhere.

I've never had issues with my GW store when it comes to bringing custom printed proxies. Store clerks and manager typically wouldn't wanna ruin the mood and chase away customers who hang around and practically keep the stores alive.

You can usually recover the price of a 3D printer in less than a week worth of printed models compared with you would pay for GW ones. In some of the more niche armies like Eldar, Daemons or Tyranids, the printed options are way, way better than the GW ones.

So I just got my first miniature for christmas. The death leaper. I have now seen that the regular starter box comes with tyranids, the winged prime, psychophage, 20 terma gaunts, 2 von ryans, and 2 ripper swarms, together with my leaper add up to EXACTLY 495 pts ingame. should I buy the starter box? even though I dont care for the space marines, and also dont really like the psychophage? Can I proxy the psychphage for something like a haruspex? can I play the termagaunts with having the pistols, even though they are modelled with fleshborers? is it a good deal? the box seems very cheap in comparrison.

Starter box isn't a bad deal, all the space marines are very resellable on eBay if you don't want them.

In most casual games the exact modeled wargear isn’t as important as long as there’s no confusion (ie mixing and matching who has what gun while they’re all modeled the same). Saying “all these gaunts have X” is fine. Competitive not so much, but you’re just starting out so ignore them. And in reality half the folks won’t know the difference anyway (I sure don’t know any of the Xenos war gear)

got a lot of my models second hand and from local retailers, almost no models from GW only some i just can't get from second hand or my local retailers. and the GW dice are just crap. got one set and that where the first and last set i got, they are bad quality and to big. the magazines are not available where i'm from. yes i got a pile of shame, mostly from when there are some big boxes like the Christmas battleforce. and i love to convert and kitbash, so i also got boxes with bits for that. :) thinking the 2024 project will be a Tau army with converted Auxiliaries. :D for tools i have tried my way around, and GW tools are to expensive and just bad. i like the tools from Green Stuff World and brushes from Army Painter.

There has only been 2 instances of me ever actually paying GW prices. 1 was picking up a Master of Executions from a GW store when they were out of stack online. The second was the random time when GW actually restocked War Dogs and I knew that if I didnt get them fast, I wasn't going to get them at all.

I really want play a 140 man high Death Korps Krieg list... (a few weapon batteries and stuff in there but mostly men). The Price for that would be like very close to 1000£ (if they were even for sale at Forgeworld) Total price of 140 Kriegs Guarsmen sofar using 3d print 500£ and thats INCLUDING the printer itself.....The Resin is less than 100$, but i did spoil myself and bought a cleaning station, and some spare parts for the printer and stuff... Price os soilders in my 2000 list (resin+paint) will end on around 80-100£ max... Now i am fairly new to Warhammer 40k, and i dont play tourneys, and me and my friends dont care about it being 3d printer,, we just want to try different armies and have fun.

What do you think: Is it worth to include Armige knights in a Bloodangels army? they cost 150 points each and are like one of the primaris dreadnoughts. But two of them come in a box that cost the same as a single dreadnought.

The biggest downside in-game is that the armigers lose out on the space marines rules like oath of moment. However if you’re just doing proxying that’s probably fine. The better question is where are you finding readily available armigers. I’ve not seen an armiger or war dog kit for msrp or less in years.

GW models aren't "surprisingly expensive for what they are", they are robbery in broad daylight. Can't wait for the usual 10-15% price hike in february. Two of my local game clubs have pretty much stopped playing Warhammer(s) at this point. I'm not complaining, but I think that GW just overstretched it (by far) and there is a real possibility, people will abandon their stuff in the (not so near) future.

So I don’t play 40k, I just got into the books and bought a combat patrol after I test painted a beginner box with box (incinerators I think). But for some reason, I find the need now to just listen and learn about the table top. What is happening to me….?

Honestly, living is Aus and seeing the price differences between here and the UK freaking sucks. Went on a holiday a few months ago and stocked up on so much plastic, saved myself about $600aud by buying in bulk while I was away

Controversially I don’t think Warhammer is that expensive, that being said I’m from England so we have significant savings as it is plus online retails often offer 20-30% off basically every set with free shipping. You can basically sell most Warhammer that’s build correctly and not all messed up for 80% of what you payed for it so overall the sunk cost is honestly nothing for most armies

IG and Sisters are expensive but they're easy to proxy. You can proxy most IG units that are basic troopers or tanks because the official models look generic enough. Sisters have a lot of generic characters and they're hella overpriced. They're easy to kitbash and get proxies for though. Save your money for expensive stuff like Triumph or Nundams. Most of us aren't playing tournaments (imagine playing an RNG based game competitively lmao) and anyone who disapproves of your good faith effort to proxy isn't worth playing games with.

My FLGS sadly doesn’t offer any discounts on GW stuff, which sucks. I really want to support local, but having several other stores that offer free deliver with discounts as options makes that hard.

i have a note to do here because i guess element games is a sponsor or somthing . Element games is good only for those who leave in UK cause of the Vat if you order something with 15 % off with vat in europe actiually goes more than GW shop because it is from 17-29% the europian Vat ex. if you order somthing at 100 pounds and you say yeeaa its 15 pounds cheaper when pass customs it will be 100+ 17-29 pounds VAT + customs ( in greece is 24 plus 10 euros ) so it costs 115euros (100 pounds) + 27.6+10 for a grand total of 152,6 !!!! so unless its somthing you definitly want and cant find somewhere else dont buy from UK if you leave in europe . the same goes if you buy from america too its the same soo buy from local buisness because the new office of GW is in spain now and the calculate the vat there when they send to local stores

Gaming clubs are an excellent source of second hand minis and books. Ive got various things at good prices. You're getting a discount yourself and you know where the money's going. Normally to fund someone's next project 😂
