Fun fact, the song actually has a good message. He tries to spread the message of don't make the mistake he did. He is telling depressed people that they need to think. Because when someone stole his radio. He was in silence and he expresses that it was the worst thing to not think

His car radio was actually stolen. He wasn't in the financial position to immediately replace it so he had to spend a while driving in silence. It opened the door for him to address the deeper issues too though. So it has both a literal and metaphorical meaning.

You’re right, we are a crazy devoted fan base because these guys work their tails off for their fans. If you ever get to go to a show, don’t turn it down! Make it happen. I went to the first show not expecting much and I was blown away! These guys are just so genuine. I don’t know what all you’ve heard but I recommend Ode to Sleep first, then some songs like Lane Boy, Heathens, Migraine, Holding On To You, and Trees (Live at fox theater). I’m here for them all!

I took my son to 21 pilots last weekend. I’ve been to countless concerts of all types. 21 pilots was the best show I’ve ever seen.

@ 6:20 Yes actually, somebody literally took his car radio and he wrote a song about it. But that of course isn't what the song is about; it's about how we use distractions to avoid confronting our own thoughts and the uncomfortable aspects of life. That's what he was forced to confront when he had nothing to listen to in his car.

that’s a really interesting take. cool. when you struggle with ptsd and severe mental illnesses, it is simply not possible to quiet your mind. that’s how people avoid their problems. when that method of avoidance (the car radio) is taken away then you’re forced to sit with those thoughts and it’s incredibly maddening and painful until you actually accept and heal.

Someone literally stole his car radio in college and he couldn't afford to replace it at the time. I've been in that situation but we live in a time when I could chuck it on my phone and a speaker but back then that wasn't an option that still would have been to expensive at the time. So he was forced to sit in silence whenever he drove. He's think about his dreams and what they meant and overthink it he'd think things like why are we, he'd think about how he hates his car he thinks about a lot of things that he'd never think about normally because he'd block it out with music. You can look deeper into it but I think the song is 100x better when you take it for what it literally is

Hey Deonte! great reaction! I love how you relate the car radio to a heart. The singer /lyricist Tyler uses metaphors a lot. Cars are often used as a symbol for his life, so the radio being a heart is right in line! And the razor too. I think that was subbed in because razor blades would be too much, but that is definitely where they were going with that. I never heard a youtube reactor make that connection. I'll check out your other reactions now.

They have a very strong ond big fanbase - the sceleton clique (think that is spelled correct) - and I truly believe it is by the simple fact that Tyler and Josh are able to stay true to themselves. Not letting the industries corrupt or manipulate them into becoming something they're not. Even though Tyler has said several times that he struggles between what he wants and what is popping on the radio or top lists. I think that is so admirable. Good job! I have heard the interpretation of loving someone he loves, like in a break-up, before. A lot of people think it is more that he is suffering with his thoughts because there is no distraction, which I think you also mentioned. But there is no wrong answer. I still get the chills with the huge mood and tempo change. As for what is next... I agree with all the other comments. Lane Boy (or Lane, Boy- however you choose to punctuate it) is a good one. Ode to Sleep is, like they've said, a little background. Guns for Hands is just amazing- more with the masks. Heavydirtysoul, Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners and Levitate are amazing, but do the older stuff first. There's kind of a theme and kind of a progression to the music. We will have to explain Blurryface first and the black marks on his hands and throat. Then with Trench (which contains the trilogy), there is Dema and the Bishops and Nico. So start with older stuff. We will get to the newer stuff if you want to go through it all.

When I first heard this song, for me, I saw the car radio as my childhood. My innocents, when I had no worries, when I didn't constantly think of bad thoughts, when I was just enjoying the ride. I saw the person who stole the car radio as myself growing up. Myself maturing and having to let go of my childhood. Of course now whenever I hear the song I have that nagging thought saying that he actually lost his radio 😂 however I think that the fact makes the song better. If I heard this song and didn't know better, every time I hear this song I would think back in my past, and grive for it. However, the fact puts a funny twist on the song and eveytime I hear this song and my mind goes to a serious and dark place, it ends up returning to this fact. This fact puts a smile to my face and remove me from my thoughts and memories.

Get used to saying "That song was deep but also super fire and sonically pleasing". Somehow they have this lit, pleasing to the masses music that happens to be super complex lyrically with no literal interpretation. I started with them cause of my 10yr old daughter and one day just happened to catch some lyrics and 🤯🤯🤯

Car radio isnt about a girl but its about his audience. His fans. When he performs at a show, hes filled with joy and happiness. At a concert, the fans are the life of the show. The fans are his happiness. His concerts are celebrations and reassurance that hes not alone when he feels a certain way and they all come under one roof and sing about it, that theyre not alone in going through what theyre going through. Which is why at the end when the audience is gone, he goes back to his depressed state. He feels empty, like that empty feeling you get when theres no music in your car.

I take the song litterally People usually distract themselves with music, including their thoughts So now that he's music is gone, his thoughts are free to run around without the distraction For someone that's depressed thats not the best thing to happen, thoughts about suicide, self harm could take place without the distraction of the music. For someone that doesn't, it could lead to controversial thinking or like weird shower thoughts like "Faith is to be awake, And to be awake is for us to think, And for us to think is to be alive" just the chain So i get why some people analyze it like its a poem taking everything like a metaphor but at the same time i dont get it, every thing he says could be taken litterally...

Tyler Joseph is his name. It was some thief (unknown) who actually took the car radio. It's synth, (more likely electric) piano, drums. They gathered fans for the shooting of the music video.

I hope you don't mind if I give suggestion/advice?? If so, excuse me. I just think this will make your journey through twenty one pilots much more interesting and enjoyable. (Sorry the following is so long, but there's much to learn about them for a deeper understanding of their music.) Okay, here we go..... Have you heard about the trilogy videos? Their last album TRENCH is a concept album with a full rich story. Three songs there have videos, a trilogy, that's fantastic. It's like the album is a book with each song like a chapter. And the 3 videos are the movie. And the storyline is fully fleshed out (and of course the story is metaphorical representing a much deeper meaning. Of course..as everything with them is deeper meanings!!) So anyway i'll list the 3 videos below IN THE ORDER that you have to watch. Also there's a prequel video from the prior album that you have to watch first. Also before those 4 videos i would recommend watching other songs first to get a better understanding of their messages etc..so that the trilogy will make more sense. For example.. you'll find the videos from their BLURRYFACE album shows his neck and hands painted black. It's to represent his insecurities about his singing (neck) and his songwriting (hands). (like in STRESSED OUT video did you notice black hands/neck?) Well, in the trilogy Jumpsuit video you see the bad guy mark Tyler's neck black. Now if you just watched the trilogy without learning these things beforehand then you don't understand what the heck is going on. So i strongly suggest you first enjoy their music from before the TRENCH album. The prior album BLURRYFACE you'll learn that Blurryface is a character representing his insecurities, the bad guy in his psyche, which is represented in the videos with the color red (and the bad guys in trilogy have red robes). They're big on color representation. Okay i've talked too much. Below i list the 4 videos BUT please try to enjoy their prior music first. Okay watch these videos in this order.
