this trilogy is definitely something you have to watch a few times in order to get everything. you got a lot of it though!! the bishops are nico and the niners, the leaders of dema, and nico is the bishop assigned to watch over tyler and try to keep him in dema, the representation of tyler's dark place. nico is blurryface, if you noticed in jumpsuit nico painted tyler's neck black when he started to lead him back to dema, and that black paint was tyler's first representation of blurryface in the earlier album. the only thing you didnt quite get in all of this was that in jumpsuit, he wasn't running back to dema when he ran, he was running AWAY from nico, AWAY from dema, after being inspired by the banditos (his support system, the people trying to get him out) to not let nico take over. this song particularly has a few references to car radio as well. tyler's head getting shaved again to represent a new start, though this time he isn't shaving his own head, the banditos are doing it (and one of the people doing it is actually his wife), and also the line "i got back what i once bought back in that slot i wont need to replace" referencing back to the lyrics of car radio, "i have these thoughts so often i ought to replace that slot with what i once bought." the whole album trench is FULL of this whole universe tyler created of dema and trench, there's even a website they created and posted on leading up to the album's release full of letters and images from a guy named clancy (some people say clancy is tyler but i dont believe thats true, since clancy describes seeing tyler get taken by nico) and there's so much to this world that none of us know yet. the other songs on the album that talk about this storyline and world more if you want to check them out are morph, bandito, and leave the city (also neon gravestones which i know you already reacted to, but if you look at the overhead view of dema in the nico and the niners video you can see them around the city). i hope you have fun falling into this world with us!!!!
💛 You would have lost your mind in the year-long ‘hiatus’ when they were not releasing music/touring and we were waiting for the new album to drop, which was Trench. They created a whole mystery which slowly unraveled over time, via a hidden link on their website which took you to a website which slowly released pieces of information about the whole Dema world - dmaorg.info/found/15398642_14/clancy.html - the clique were driven mad trying to work out what it all meant and it was just an absolutely genius move, I’m totally blown away by the thinking behind it all 💛

Alright, so get this, imagine Dema (The whole place, which is known as the tower of silence ) as Tyler's head Space, the bishops can be represented as his 9 elements such as insecurities, depression (the horse riding guy, Nico), migraine and all. No matter how hard he tries he can't leave that headspace of his because Nico drags him back and he knows there are others struggling with the same issues as him and are trying to get out hence known as Banditos. Josh on the other hand always helps him to get out of that headspace and makes sure no matter what he will be there for him. This gesture can be also seen in "The Hype" music video where the video shows that the band is growing and with that the insecurities of Tyler that the people will like their music or not and he is unsure where he is heading but in every phase of his life josh is already there to help him get through this. Bonus: @3:45 he says "a slot to replace" references to the song Car Radio. I hope you like this and can compare to other music videos as well as their music is always connected to their previous music.

One great thing about watching the trilogy of videos is no matter how many times you watch them you can almost always catch something new, whether it's a lyric or a part of the video that helps tie everything together - there is meaning behind everything

I can rap along to this song and I'm quiet proud of it tbh :D That might seem out of place but I would like for you to listen to Bellevue Days. It's a band from the UK and they're not really popular but I listen to them for a few years now and also was in contat with them over Instagram a few times, really nice dudes. I've never seen anyone react to them. Songs to react to could be: 'Faith' 'Sleep Repeat Again' 'Pepper Tea' 'Ripped Jeans' Let's all be friends'. Would actually mean a lot to me :)

dmaorg.org is the twenty one pilots web site that they created while recording the album trench. It has a couple of journal entries written by Tyler in which he tells the story of a dude name Clancy who is captured in to Dema. Really fun read as it’s a very creative and genius side of Joseph. He literally created this entire universe that is a metaphore for his mental state. Total Genius!

I love how you put all your energy to appreciate the music, analyse the lyrics, understand the story, admire the video .... every sound, every word, every detail, all is so meaningful and rich and deep and perfect ... we can listen to their songs and watch their videos 1000 times, we still are amazed ! One thing I found notable, the look on Tyler's face when Nico/Blurrryface grabs him. He's resigned, not scared. Like 'yep. Here we are again. No point fighting it.' Other things not sure if anyone else has mentioned, the theories on the location of their yellow tape. Josh's crosses at his heart, and has yellow at his knee, where he has Tyler's name tattooed. (That's a whole other fun story I'll grab the links later if you want.) One of the places Tyler has it is covering his wedding ring.

i don’t know if you ever noticed, but at some culture clips when he is on the ground, we found out that if you increase the exposure, there is a cheetah that lurks in the background, there is a song called pet cheetah that connects to this too. tyler has said that he had a sort of block and that song represents it.
Don’t know if anyone’s mentioned this yet but there are 9 circles in the center of the dema map (it can be found on the secret website) that represent the 9 bishops, those same circles are on the album cover for Blurryface.
I love how stressed this trilogy has made you but not once did you forget to bop to all songs. 😂 As usual, great reaction! For someone who has only seen these for the first time, you did really good! The more you watch the music videos or even just listen to the songs, the more you get something out of it. There's always something new that clicks. The dema-verse is kinda complicated to dissect because like tyler said, only a few will fully understand the concept of this project. Also I don't know if you're gonna react to the rest of the tracks from trench but even if you don't, I very HIGHLY recommend listening to Bandito and Leave the City. These for me wrap up the dema story in some way. i had to watch the videos a few times to fully get it. and this is just a theory of my but i think it fits. if you remember in nico and the niners tyler has a drawer in his room where he has all the flowers. from what i counted i believe there were only five flowers including the one the tyler was adding to the drawer, and twenty one pilots have put out five albums. tyler tends to touch on heavy subjects in his music but through it he is able to help people. like how he left his jumpsuit and josh left his drums as a symbol for the people still stuck in dema that there is hope and there is a way out. so at the end of levitate when he gets taken, that's him going back to dema, where he will once again escape and leave another something behind (another jumpsuit, another symbol, representative of more music/another album) that will give people still stuck in dema hope and potentially the will to fight themselves and pull themselves out of dema
The ending music of jumpsuit leads directly into levitate, and nico and the niners comes last. But if you watch the videos the timeline goes nico, levitate, jumpsuit
I can't be the only one noticing that every time Nico grabs him, it's by the neak and every time he does he turns into blurry face but when people put yellow tape or throw yellow flowers on him the black paint goes away and he is Tyler again.
Something I meant to share. Keep this line in mind. “Cowards only come through when the hour’s late.” Back when they released this video, I, like others, had been trying to decipher all of the clues TØP was putting out there about “Dema” before any music dropped (at the time, it was like what’s Dema?? Are they trying to tell us when new music will be out? It was crazy!). So take that that level determination into the video. We know the Bishop grabbed Tyler at the end, but what’s really cool and hard to see, is around the 41second mark where there’s a vulture. Slow it down, make the screen bright, and you can see some of the bishops moving toward the camp when the hour was late; hence, the bishops were the cowards…
Awesome! If you really want to get into this whole story I’d watch some videos on RU-vid explaining dema- there are some good ones! You’ll learn about Clancy, hidden characters, why ”East is up”, relationships to old albums, and all that :D since you’ve seen the trilogy now I recommend heathens because that music video ties into the story as well
Blurryface and especially Trench as an album, listened from front to back in order, tell an overarching story (so to speak). Blurryface is very loose concept album but listening from first to last song is Tyler being under the control of Blurryface and by the end breaking free. If you watch the music video's in order of release, they also tell that story. In the beginning the paint on his neck and hands is thick and Blurryface does much of the talking, by the end the paint is so faint (HeavyDirtySoul and Heathens) you can hardly see it. Trench is all about how you break free. And both albums are cyclical, like others have said. It's an endless loop. You can, and many of us have, have studied and dissected these songs and albums. There are so many layers to these onions. And you can tie a lot of their new stuff to all the way back to the beginning of the band. This trilogy is a call back to a song on their first album called "A Car, A Torch, A Death". Layers of an onion. The beauty is you don't have to know all of it, you still get a message/meaning from the songs.
You rapping “Oh no, no no no no no no no” in time to the beat may be the single best reaction on the Internet. My personal take? This is a dark night of the soul song … he’s telling God he’d even welcome a curse right now because at least that would be God speaking to him. He’s also throwing down a challenge for Jesus to show up for him … in Matthew 24, Jesus says the second coming will happen like a theft in the night. (Same passage, Jesus also mentions vultures.) Tyler: “Cowards only come through when the hour's late / And everyone's asleep, mind you / Now show up, show up.” I love this so much. I don’t think God minds at all when we accuse him of letting us down. He’s already more aware of our inner darkness than we are and certainly more than we let others see: “I probably shouldn't show you, but it's way too late / My heart is with you hiding.” Not only that, us raging at God is still us talking to God … just like Tyler begs for even a curse.

It's quite big and most of the information hasn't been officially confirmed, but there it is, if you wanna check it out. But you pretty much already know everything you'll need: DEMA is a city in your mind, a dystopia, controlled by nine bishops. Each one represents something different for everyone, but Tyler has only explored Nico (Blurryface) in songs so far. He talks more about him on ''Morph''. There is a lot more symbolism. There is actually a name for the ''religion'' these bishops follow you: vialism. This is just an interesting detail and it isn't very useful to understand the sotry (yet). I'd love to see you react to these: -Morph -Pet Cheetah -Bandito They're all from Trench and the last one, Bandito, is connected to DEMA, and I think you'll like the lyrics since you liked the symbolism in this trilogy so much. He also raps on the other two songs, so maybe it would be better if you could have the lyrics open on another device so you wouldn't have to go back so many times.
