Wow, what a great breakdown. This made me realize you never reacted to Tear In My Heart! Tyler comes back to the heart metaphor, and his wife stars in the music video! I'm really surprised because it's one of the first songs most people hear when they first get into the band, since it has a music video and everything.

You did it again - first I’ve seen to think exactly what I think for this song!!! I love this song and it is so exactly real. I feel there are four songs that tell the story of falling for someone - one for each album 1. Air catcher- that start to letting feelings start for someone 2. Screen- when your opening up to that person & letting your true self open up to them, your still unsure & scared to show them 3. Year in my heart- when that person has finally broken through into your heart you’ve been protecting so much and you now accept it &4. Smithereens- finally deep in love and know you’d do anything to protect that one person who holds your heart. I love Tyler’s way of being ‘romantic’ it’s so real. ** you will never pick a favourite song or album, you’ll give yourself an aneurism trying 😂😂

you should listen to the alternate version of this song, his voice is a lot more isolated and it sounds so good (there's also violins and it's beautiful)

I feel like it's underrated, because it doesn't get mentioned that often, but that's OK, I love it though. I also love the beat and the vibe, but even more the lyrics and the meaning behind the words. Tyler is my favourite poet ever, he's a rare wordsmith. The way he uses words to say simple things in the most complicated way, you just gotta love that. He doesn't just say I love you, but I'm here to give you words as tools that can destroy my heart. As I said before, this song was my most streamed song on Spotify in both 2019 AND 2020, it's just amazing and means so much to me. Hey, Thankfully you DON'T have to pick a favourite album😊 I could never do that, because my favourite songs come from all the different albums. It's really hard to pick favourites, since they have so many incredible songs. I once tried to name my TØP 10, but it just became my TØP 40. But I once managed to put up my favourite 15 songs, by the eliminating method.

this song is from their self titled album (2009) so josh wasn't part of the band yet. and two years later they released an alternative version from this song, whis is amazing. i think you should check this out! :)

This is one of my favorites. Very early Coldplay. Listen to the intro of Politik and this. I have two lines of this tattooed on me, "I won't fall in love with falling, I will try to avoid those eyes". And yes this is a song about falling in love and the danger that can bring, but as an Ace, who doesn't experience those things, I use those lines and this song as a different metaphor. It can also be interpreted as a warning to not fall in love with the act of falling. And you can interpret the falling to almost anything. For me it's the falling into depression. I know that I am most creative when I'm in a depressed state, so there is this lure and yearning to fall into it and let it take me so that I can be creative. But it is dangerous. So I use it as a cautionary warning. Depression will always be a part of me and my life, but I will not "fall in love" with the fall into depression.

Something cool to ponder, IMHO. Towards the end of your reaction you stated that it is going to be hard to pick a favorite album. What an AWESOME dilemma to have! The idea that there is at least one songwriter/band out there creating CONSISTENTLY GOOD material in a way that perhaps eliminates the need to even choose a favorite. I have often said that my favorite Twenty One Pilots' song is the one currently playing. There's no reason that that idea cannot be applied to an entire album! Hope you have an awesome Christmas and I am looking forward to more in 2021 - The Year of the Pilots, LOL. And, as so many are saying below, consider Tear in My Heart as the follow-up. Cheers.
