I love this song, it's so romantic. He keeps saying "my heart is my armor" and she's the "tear in my heart, she's a carver". She's not sneaking in, she's bashing down the front door, pushing aside his insecurities & showing him she loves him. Messy bits & all. True love

This is about as close as Tyler is going to get to a love song - but he's saying he's giving her access to his heart and she has the ability to destroy it, but it makes him feel alive at the same time There's some kind of precursors to this song in Air Catcher from the very first twenty one pilots album

Also the violence in the music video is a metaphor. When you are really in love with someone, they could just decide, at any moment to crush you. Tyler talks about this on the behinds the scenes video. And the woman is actually his wife Jenna (also the mother of their child, Rosie, born Feb 2020).
