#top #twentyonepilots Josh and Tyler explain the origin of Regional At Best and why it's never been released as an official album (vessel 10th anniversary livestream)
i hope the band doesn't release something like that. i think it's fine staying as this kind of underground collection of songs that can only be bootlegged from ebay or something. no need to remaster or redo them.
I think the truly frustrating thing is that by not having RAB "released", all the songs that didn't make it to vessel are in this limbo state that makes them hard to access, songs that I think are a significant part of TOP's musical history. Slowtown, forest through ruby, and be cocnerned and clear, have a few standouts that are fan favorite songs. To this day, you still see kitchen sink being recommended to react channels. I understand that maybe RAB was just meant to be something to promote live shows, but I'd love to at least be able to listen to those songs on spotify or through any other official means.
I just picked up a Regional at Best vinyl at a Record store, not fully realizing how rare it was, since than I’m beginning to realize what a great find it was.
I bought one around the same time as you. A bit sooner. Tbh I think record stores are being flooded with bootlegs of it. But sounds just as good to me and it was $40 lol
I'd seriously love to hear the RAB remaster, the album's way too good to be treated as virtually non-existent. Kitchen Sink and Be Concerned are my favourite songs off it. I wish it was available on Spotify too ♥
The track "Forest" from Regional At Best is still one my favorite songs from their and definitely one of their most underrated and even tho i understand why the album wasn't officially released, it still makes me sad that a song that great isn't on Spotify or anyother streaming service except for RU-vid.
I purchased this album on iTunes YEARS ago, long before they ever blew up. They were just a local Ohio band. I absolutely loved it. But when they took it down, it got taken off my iPod and I was never able to re-download it. I was so devastated. It was one of my favorite albums.
Stories like this is why I’m such a big supporter of physical media. I think I ended up buying some reproduction copies off of eBay a few years back so I could have it physically. Would love for them to rerelease their self-released albums so I could buy official copies and support them.
Kitchen sink and forest are legitimately the songs that made me fall in love with TØP and want to discover more of them. Such a great album that deserved far more recognition
I'm half satisfied with this. Logically it makes sense but what about the other 3/4 of that album that they didn't bring over to vessel? Those still exist. They deserve love too.
Upon 2nd viewing of the interview it makes me kind of sad to hear that they don't like to consider the first album and the RAB EP as counting. I'm older but I absolutely love those so much and they touch my heart.
I bought a copy someone made in the Uk. They still sell them on ebay. If I could've bought it legitimately I would've, but it's so good, I had to have it one way or the other.
I love listening to Tyler speak about things like this. I just also wish he explained their process behind NOT choosing to re-record some songs. I know a couple made it as bonus tracks, but still am curious why they didn't make main album/again curious about the songs simply left behind y'know lol
it just doesn’t make sense. why record a whole album with yes, the intent to only use it for merch at shows, but not re-release it just because you recorded an album that was done professionally with some material from the previous record? they’re EXTREMELY WELL AWARE that fans absolutely love RAB, but yet they refuse to do anything with the album being in limbo. the only thing they’ve done with it is play maybe a FEW songs at shows, but that’s it. it just seems like a lot of this stuff wasn’t necessarily their decision, more so FBR, which sucks. i get it, the album isn’t professional, it sounds a little jank in some areas, but to erase it from history doesn’t make sense at all. side note, Josh came in during RAB, not self titled. the original band members having no mention at all either sucks even more because they worked just as hard.
at this point its been 13 years since they made that album. why would they do a release for it now? also, i wouldn't say the "original" members worked just as hard. they were part of tyler's live band for maybe a year or year and a half. they didn't record anything on the self-titled album either. the identity of twenty one pilots is tyler and josh, and it makes sense that they want it presented that way
They probably weren’t happy with the product that’s why they don’t want to move forward with those songs, like they were saying they just wanted to perform live so they could get their name out there, which they did. Hence why they were able to sign with fuel by ramen and start recording in a studio. I love Rab but I understand why they wouldn’t see it as a strong record and would want to move away from it, it sucks but most bands hate their early work so it’s understandable.
@@squippydrawscompletely understandable. and I’m not saying they absolutely have to re-release the album or remake a few songs, i just think having to ignore history like that seems weird. RAB was their claim to fame, why remove it from said claim, y’know?
@@Ryan-sz5ft nah I get that, it makes me sad cuz I love that album 😔 but I’m just glad that they included some of the songs on the box set, that’s one of the main reasons i bought it tbh
Looking at the comments and it’s crazy seeing people wishing they could listen to Glowing Eyes, Kitchen Sink etc… I forgot they’re considered bonus tracks???😭 I swear every version of Vessel I’ve seen in stores has always had them on it, couldn’t imagine Vessel without them cos they’re my favourite tracks from the album 🥹 Wish they’d print RAB or Self Titled though… Self Titled on vinyl is a need 🥹💖
Slowtown, Forest, and Kitchen Sink are some of my favorite Twenty One Pilots songs of all time. It's a travesty they've never remastered them. I'm still holding out hope they'll some day remaster RAB.
I think this wasn't a good decision from them. The clique love RAB and we all want it to be officially release or at least the songs from RAB that aren't in Vessel. It doesn't make sense to just say "the album doesn't exist" because its right there and it's much different from Vessel. And also, what about the people who are fans from the beginning? I bet they want RAB more than the late fans, idk
this just kinda makes me sad bc theres so many songs on rab that i adore that didnt get remastered for vessel or got shoved into bonus content that wouldve been so good. rab is still my favourite album theve ever done
i still don't get it because if self-titled was self released/recorded and still put on streaming services, why is RAB any different? it seems like they're actively choosing not to put it on spotify rather than it being the label's fault
that’s what he said in the video. they chose not to make it an official release when asked by FBR because they wanted to make a newer and better album, but just take some of their older songs to recreate for it.
Sorry tyler, youre wrong. Your self titled album was your first. Also, you need to release a revised and proper RAB. The self titled and RAB are their best albums. No contest
Hey! Trees and Truce are amazing songs!! I think the better way to go would have been to replace The run and go (Imo that one is the worst one in vessel, still good, but not at the level of the others) with kitchen sink (best song from rab)
Regional at best is actually the best album… I love every song on it. It was a mistake to not remaster it. And several songs you never released so I can’t get them on Apple Music.
I really wished they would have released regional at best because I need slowtown, forest, glowing eyes, kitchen sink, anathema, lovely, ruby, be concerned, and clear released!! Also I thought two and house of gold were also on regional at best???
@jedak6630 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7PKe7fesyoc.htmlsi=CWwgvk9zduomaP7n I believe it's this one. Had to do some searching haha. It's from a concert so unfortunate there are people screaming sometimes
I don't think this explains why RAB isn't on spotify and all... Self-titled was an independent record, same as RAB as they said, but it is on streaming platforms with no issues. What's different about RAB?
Yeah, I was like "huh?" when tyler said "we" while talking ab self titled cause Josh wasn't involved at all with the making of that album, he did learn some of the songs for them to play live but that's it
@@rightlyexiledWhy is it unavailable? It's on my CD copy and both streaming services I have used (Amazon Music and YT Music). I didn't even realise they were bonus tracks
those two guys actually did not record on any twenty one pilots material. the bass and drums on both the self titled album and rab were programmed and produced by tyler using logic pro, along with the rest of the instrumentation. it was only "the original trio" for maybe a year or year and a half, and only for live shows. the identity of the band twenty one pilots is tyler and josh, so it makes sense why tyler would say that.
Love how Tyler and Josh both play make believe that Josh was part of Self titled or even RAB from my understanding but later Josh does say vessel is the first time they officially created music and a recording studio of any kind I think meaning not the ones before. my thoughts are if you look at the writing of the original self titled, it usually says twenty one pilots and not specific people I don’t know if it’s always been like that but I am guessing Josh and Tyler both own the rights to that album now because of that, so therefore, because he owns the rightthat’s why they kind of say this like they both did it I think it’s a legality thing not reality thing
What I'm still wondering is why can't the rest of RAB's songs be officiqlly released on streaming services like Spotify? They can be labeled as a "remastered" RAB or just a few singles even
Im curious why Tyler is trying to retcon Josh into the band during the self titled release, as if everyone doesnt already know about the original members
Josh and Tyler arent their real names and it’s all apart of a multi decade lore where they now retcon Josh to always be a apart of it because of time travel that will happen in the upcoming years
there weren't really "original members" as many people think. the two guys in the live band before josh were just tyler's live band. they didn't actually record or write any twenty one pilots material. tyler wrote and produced the first two unofficial "albums" by himself. those guys played bass and drums at live shows for maybe a year or year and a half
@@Purplepentapus_ fair enough. i think because the identity of the band twenty one pilots is known to everyone as tyler joseph and josh dun, he didn't see a reason to say something like "the two first albums are just my albums"
@@marionunziodibartolomeo but tbf, so was Josh, Josh really didn’t play for Regional at Best. Hell, even songs on trench are made on Daws and not recorded with live drums. For those songs, Josh is just a live drummer, not really having much to do with the songwriting process.
I’m permanently bewildered by the fact that they decided to leave Kitchen Sink on ROB, It’s a good song and very important for the lore of the band (I mean their logo is pretty much based on the track) 😵💫
the fact that they've played forest on the last couple tours gives me hope for slowtown and lovely someday. anathema is my all time favorite tøp song but i wouldn't expect them to play it live
A girl I was crushing on gave me a burned copy of regional at best in 2011. TOP quickly became my favorite band. It was my most played cd in my car until Vessel came out in 2013. I still keep it in my car! I will always think it's their best work. I'm sure they hate that 😂
I wish RAB was on streaming platforms, they don't even need to remaster it, just do it for the fans, I know it's not the band's best album but its strong point is what it means to the fandom, just for that reason
