To celebrate Twice's comeback on Friday I decided to go a little crazy and do something I never did before and don't plan on repeating all that often, a deep dive. Doing this video, along with watching 'Sixteen' (on Patreon, hehe, I'm on ep 4) made me appreciate them so much more and I honestly feel like I just rediscovered them, What is Love is on another level! Hope you guys enjoy this reaction, and oh, I did mess up some of my pronunciation throughout the video, so I actually edited the audio a bit in some parts 😅 PS - As mentioned previously, I am unable to take suggestions at the moment, I do appreciate them, but please don't feel ignored if I don't react to your suggested content, there's a lot of content on my plate currently :)

I'm so happy you are checking out their older stuff. You literally get to see the growth and maturity these girls have gone through. Like literally their dances keep getting better and harder with each comeback. Alcohol-free is a jump but still you can see the diversity (but still keep the Twice sound) with the music they can do. The "What is Love" by Twice is the 1st song I saw by accident four years ago. I was looking for the song of the same name by Haddaway. I was instantly fascinated and I became addicted to the Twice. Watching a Twice videos, and I don't just mean MV but also TTT and others, always puts a smile on my lips and when I finish I sometimes have to wipe my cheeks because I almost have a cramp. I don't regret a second of watching Twice. 💗💓

Every time I watch Like OOH-AHH I get a bit emotional at how far they have come. Their success was NOT guaranteed when they released LOA, JYPE was not doing great. They have really put in the work to get to where they are now. What is Love, for me is the most perfect example of 3rd Gen Kpop doing cute concept. NOBODY did it better than TWICE in 2018 when it came to the cute concept. That song is my favorite TWICE song, it has got me through some tough times and when I finally see it performed live one day I will likely sob. I am glad you enjoyed it

As you can see in the intro of Cheer Up MV. They're at a house party when the girls acting like they didn't interested or even annoyed with the camera-MAN (our perspective). So the cameraman representing all the fans (since at that time Twice targerted the male audience, they chose to paint the camera blue and the song is about a boy that has crush on them too). And the rest of the MV start with this boy which is the cameraman, which is our perspective, looking deeply into the girls and reveal that they're just acting uninterested when in fact, they also like us back, you just need to put more effort. So in a way, Twice also telling us the fans that Twice is not all that, look into them more and you'll see the different charms that each members have. The different scene represent "filters" like in Insta filter (which is also had camera as their icon). Which is also the tease for their future album "Twicetagram"

For my understanding Like Ooh-Ah, have two perspective. Twice thinks that everyone around them like a zombie. Not interesting and irrelevant. The zombies, they're flocking around twice, try to get a piece of them (lowkey, kinda like haters). But when both twice and "the zombies" interact with each other, they surprisingly could have fun together and even, given live to the zombies themselves (which could be mean that twice charms could make haters into fans). It's brilliant

this is the best dayyy got off work earlier than usual then saw ur deep dive notif!! oh aah: never really tried to decode this mv, or more like I never gave proper attention to the lyrics so that was interesting Cheer up: the way I saw it, the cameraman's lens shows us the girls' inner selfs, they perceive themselves as the main characters of different movies and are essentially safeguarding themselves from getting hurt and putting up different personas so they're not open and vulnerable from the get go, if you replay the part before the guy uses the lens and focus on every girl's reaction to the guy (the camera was his pov) he gets snobbed by every single one of them, they're pretending to be cold and indifferent to him until he uses the lens and the first thing we see is nayeon going from looking carefree while she talks on the phone to a blue filter as she talks anxiously and the girls around her too look extra worried lol then we get to watch all the girls looking like their personas at the end (emphasizing the point that you might think all girls act cold and hard to get and also look so different (like different main characters from diff movies) but in the end they all want the same thing. what is love: this is one of my fav songs! litereally every scene is a movie/show ref too Twice are one of if not the only grp I feel like I'm guaranteed to get my best dose of serotonin from there songs, they just have the most fun pop idol catchy songs out there and their formula is so solid they never disappoint me. My fav songs are can't stop me, what is love, the feels and fancy and I'm looking forward to more bops!

In "What Is Love?" Nayeon's scenes were a reference to "The Princess Diaries"! If you've never seen it you have to, it's a classic teen coming-of-age movie.

I'm thankful for Twice's existence, without them I would've maybe never known about K-pop. here's all the references on what is love (including the ones you didn't catch)! each member has a core movie they're representing, so i sorted this out by members Jeongyeon references the movie Ghost (1990), with its most famous scene (and a feature from Sana) Mina represents the French movie La Boum (1980) -- with a feature from Dahyun Sana, as you pointed out, references Pulp Fiction (1994), with Tzuyu acting as Vincent in both her appearances, Jihyo is referencing the Japanese movie Love Letter (1995) -- with a feature from Jeongyeon in the first one Momo (again, as you pointed) plays La La Land (2016), with Tzuyu acting as Sebastian Tzuyu's movie is the 1996 Romeo + Juliet -- the famous rendition with Leo DiCaprio (played by Jeongyeon) you also guessed Chaeyoung's movie, which is indeed Léon: The Professional (1994), with Chaeyoung acting as Mathilda and Dahyun as Léon another one you missed is Nayeon's movie, which is a reference to The Princess Diaries (2001) -- the movie is based off a book and the author herself shouted Twice out on Twitter after the MV's release! Such a long reaction but i enjoyed every second. Had lots to say forgot most after watching. Chaeyoung seems to be your bias, I have a hard time picking one member out in any group but not when it comes to Twice. Sana is my Bias and ULT (ultimate) Meaning out of all groups she's stands on top. That's only thanks to Corona a Lockdown and a Cheese Kimbap clip being thrown into my youtube feed that started my kpop journey. only thing i'll point out is at 52:16 during Dahyun's rap in the background the members make a bar and mina mixes and hands her a drink. it's very quick but you can search mina bartender for a compilation vid of when they performed live it's very creative and unique.

Mate, I could feel how you were containing yourself through OOh Aah. After watching Sixteen, I felt the same way (and it gets rougher later). They have earned every single part of their success; quite a journey indeed. Some extra notes: *Jihyo injured her feet in the last part of that song while filming; still trucked along like a pro. *Jeongyeon was pushed to use short hair early on. She later set her style in her own way, and so did Chaeyoung (tatoos included). *It's theorized to be loosely connected to "Scientist". Twice was the cure, all along. *"Cheer up" was a critical point. Along with other group, it almost single handedly saved JYPE, as it was then in debt problems. *It also made Sana super popular, even among other artists. *Indeed the video takes cues from different movies, like ChungKing Express, Scream, Resident Evil, Sailor moon, etc. pointing to their personas. *"Alcohol Free" is likely the only rendition of a Bossa Nova + Mexican Cabaret with a Spanish guitar song in KPOP so far (nevermind the dissonance effects used in the background). *And yes, "What is love" show its different representations, some more twisted than others.
