Morrow comforted the children by making silly faces at them so they would not be so scared. He got them going so much that they laughed uncontrollably and Landis had to keep yelling 'Cut!'
@@kittylionmeowroar7572 It's actually a movie! It's Twilight Zone: The Movie. Definitely watch it if you haven't already. One of my favorite horror movies, and I'm a big horror film fan.
I watched that show every weekend it was on with my grandpa. Vic was a significant figure through my childhood. I was very heartbroken to see what happened to him and those kids
Rat patrol was alright, it wasn’t my cup of tea though since it didn’t have as much to work with in the shorter running time as say Combat or Tour of Duty or Baa Baa Black Sheep. Some pretty good casting however
@@williammcfadden8037 I had to look it up. Him and 2 kids were killed on the ground from a helicopter during the filming of the movie The Twilight Zone.
When given well written material, Vic could always deliver the goods. It's ashame that wasn't always the case with him. Severely underated and underused talent.
This role and his death was before my time. But I'm still haunted by the footage of his death. It's so viceral and it's didn't have to happen. I'm not too familiar with Vic Morrow but this scene definitely shows he was a versitile actor. RIP, Vic
Vic Morrow's acting skill is shown in how he made these cartoonishly racist lines into something real. He turns what could have been this straw man into a realistic, flawed person. RIP
I honestly don't know if anyone could have played the part as well let alone better. I remember at least one local critic giving Vic a hard time for playing such a "tasteless" role. Eye roll . . . It was weeks if not months before we even learned that Vic Morrow was deceased. I watched it inthe theater thinking he was alive and well, wondering which heavy he'd play next.
Vic morrow died doing what he loved... acting. He was a phenomenal actor. He is gone because of the negligence of the producers and directors of this film.
This was somewhat of a comeback role for him, as he had alot of his better roles before Combat. He had once co- starred with Elvis Presley. In another, he played the part of the mobster, Dutch Schultz. If this tragic accident hadn't happened, I think his career would have taken off again.
Tarantino was a BIG fan of Morrow and would have probably cast him in one of his films (instead he cast his daughter, Jennifer Jason - Leigh in THE HATEFUL EIGHT.
I clicked on this video thinking I’d see a clip from the 80s Twilight Zone revival. The second I saw Vic Morrow, I started feeling so bad. Rest In Peace, Vic.
the black guy handled the situation well. he was upset, and he had every reason to be, but he showed self control by not losing his cool, and not stooping to the other guy's level.
@@ig-8892 yeah a fictional character played by a Jewish man who died over this bullshit by being cut in two. Congrats on dumbest comment of the century.
As a kid this was one of my least favorite episodes of the film, but over time it’s actually now one of my favorites. RIP Vic Morrow and the two children tragically killed in the film.
This one is more nuanced and subtle than the Gremlin or kid with reality warping problems. As an adult this story because more impactful because it’s more grounded in reality.
This story in the movie still gives me the chills. I think a lot of people can relate, although they may not say the racist stuff out loud in public like that. So sad about the actor, but oh man, he sure put his heart and soul into this.
This must have been one long segment - how on earth did Vic end up in a helicopter scene in Viet Nam with two children... What a horrific accident indeed. RIP, Vic. Thanks for the Combat and that L'Ultimo Squalo movie.
Sara Love Director John Landis should've gone to prison. He violated California's child labor laws by hiring 7 year-old Myca Dinh Le and 6 year-old Renee Shin-Yi Chen without the required permits.
It's really haunting to see Vic Morrow working here and then remembering the horrible end he met during the making of this movie. Even worse, he had no idea that suit he's wearing would be the last thing he would ever wear. R.I.P. Mr. Morrow and the two children who perished with him.
@@mikebasil4832 Actually, his ending was the same, he ended up on a train to a concentration camp. Either way, his cruel twist ending turned into a deserving one.
It's a testament to Vic's skill that his acting here can still inspire discussion and make us think. It was such a shame about what happened to him during the making of this film, and the young children who were lost also. But at least Vic left behind a thought-provoking performance, and his death led to people being more careful on movie sets so that nothing like what happened to him and those children would ever happen again. RIP.
7/23/1982 His cause of death was accidental decapitation by helicopter rotor blades, along with two others, Myca Dinh Le (7) and Renee Shin-Yi Chen (6). Their deaths were caught on camera.
He was soooooo effing awesome in that movie and yes it was an extreme tragedy what happened to him but he left behind one hell of a performance in one hell of a story!!
@@frankzappaspussy7362 It's a representation of something that is sadly predictable in our society. And yeah, TZ has always been about moral comuppance and cruel irony.
Yeah. And this really was an interesting segment of the movie. And the opening narration was almost word for word taken from the opening narration in TZ episode "What you need", saying he's a sour man with a chip on his shoulder the size of the national debt
It's sad that this movie was Vic Morrow's last movie as they were filming another scene with his character where he was in Vietnam again or something like that and he was carrying 2 kids and a helicopter crashed on all 3 of them killing them instantly and those 2 kids weren't even supposed to be working so late and they made a lot of changes in the movie industry after that incident.
Hahaha! There is no such thing as the good ol days, especially considering the fact that Vic Morrow (the actor shown in this) died during the making of this film, Along with two child actors!
@@majorfanboy2005 I know Vic and those kids died during the filming. My point was that people weren't so ....fussy/ hurt feeling creatures. The good old days were the 70 and 80s to me. I'll even throw In the 90s for good measure. After that a lot of people made their feelings of entitlement Paramount to themselves at least. But sadly they force us all to listen now because of the social media.
@@skottyo There are no good old days. The only good old days are the good days you personally have. Every single decade in existence has a tragedy. So, don't be completely blinded by your nostalgia.
He gave his all for his craft, Just like Slim Pickens in Blazing Saddles. THEY BOTH walked around the entire set apologizing for having delivered those lines to each member there, after their big scene. Neither had a racist or hateful bone in their makeup !!! RIP ALL Y'ALL !!! Deepest respect to Hollywoods legacy,no matter how badly the present bunch screws the pooch !!!
He WAS a Jew, google 'Vic Morrow death', he died filming this film along with two Asian children, the oldest child was 7, there's footage of them before they died, it's extremely sad
I don't think it's ironic?! Everybody here is skirting the issue and that is that that was Shirley Temple playing Vic Morrow in the movie. Don't deny it, did anybody ever see Vic & Shirley together at the same time? Know! They absolutely did not! What I'm trying to say is it surely she could do anything she played Vic then in another movie she played Brando who played that little midget from the other movie and they were unbelievable in the fact the whole thing was awesome. Now I'm not saying that it's wrong to have three Square meals a day, no don't get me wrong. But what was wrong with the whole thing was that well see helicopters are just like you know those things you get from the machine they put a quarter in to get a built plastic bubble back and it's got like something in it? Well that's what the whole helicopters are made out of the box tops in and packages of stuff you got in Wheaties. That's why I was the Flames gets you high outside now you look you just leave me out of it I don't want to get involved anymore I was perfectly willing to learn to fly the helicopters over the the last barbecue I had a nobody was interested in buying one for me I said it's only a million dollars for a helicopter. I asked you for nothing ever and one thing a helicopter and no everybody turns me down. They said no we saw that movie with the Charles Tavern she know where he crashes and becomes a survivor of the okay I do clear And he told her I said you know where was an open house buffet with a turkey and and crab legs and things like that but anyway. I will go into great detail about SDI the movies but I what I will tell you is that is no surprises with when you got the great Shirley Temple being you know who went regularly went to Temple and was also acting acid Temple she can play it simple it was amazing just go inside tour the temple and in and you know where everybody knows that the temples were people evolved different beliefs to go to worship by Jesus in things you know perhaps you prefer to my new religion is called Jesus and things. If you like a catalog it's 495 non-refundable of course even if you order but stop it now and then stop at then and then and you know I would like to get some more information on swing dancing and the internet. I heard you can learn anything from swing dancing or the internet. So as my father Teddy Roosevelt I mean and that's hard Teddy Roosevelt said to well this is what I'm trying to do is make some sense out of this ghost ghost in ghost in stew nothing I like better than a good beef stew with some ghost in it not ghost peppers real ghosts and I hope that will be the definitive answer that everybody has been looking for. Again I love you all and look forward to seeing you all again in a mixed up deal like this.
This is an absolutely phenomenal concept. The greatest tragedy, after the losses of Vic and little Myca and Renee, is that a great story will forever be tainted by horror.
I was just there yesterday off of Sepulveda Blvd. where they filmed this. The front of the bar still basically looks the same. I was able to park my car right where Vic Morrow parks his car at the start of this scene. I felt such sadness. How could of this happened, I keep wondering. :(
God that movie has the scariest special effects ever - I can't look at that actor without seeing his head sprout legs and scuttle across the room like a giant spider, SHUDDER!
I still cannot believe the way Morrow and the children died. Landis is mostly to blame but the goddamned helicopter pilot was responsible for it as well. He and Landis did not communicate with each other nor did they coordinate where the helicopter was supposed to be. The man who detonated those explosives had no idea that the helicopter was going to fly lower at roughly 24 or 25 feet. That is when one of the explosives hit the main rotors and another one hit the tail rotor which was blown off. It makes me sick that Landis and several other individuals got off scot free.
Not just sagging pants, but wife beater shirts, gym clothes, stripper shoes and stripper clothes. These days, everybody dresses like they have no class. I've gone on dates where guys showed up in gym clothes and gym sandals......then they had the nerve to speak about how trashy I made them look and feel because I was so well dressed.
One thing that never left me from watching this scene, even as a kid, was that in the face of brazen use of the n-word, that black guy was actually very cool. Even at the end he expressed sympathy...for the guy spouting off the n-word. Talk about rising above. This was a great scene.
