In Dedication to Shango & Shiva
Iná in the Yoruba language and agni in Sanskrit refer to the multifaceted power of fire, and this duet is a celebration of brotherhood and an imagined first encounter between Shango (a powerful king and orisha of thunder and lightning) and Shiva (the Hindu god of destruction and storms). At first adversarial, the two deities quickly discover that they share striking similarities in strength, manner, and appearance. As prime manifestations of masculine divine energy, Shango and Shiva are revered as mighty hunter-warriors, skilled commanders of armies, guardians of fire, and superior dancers. Both deities ultimately recognize that they are equals in power and stature, and they exchange sacred drinks, weapons, and regalia to forge an eternal bond.
