Piggies love a change. It keeps them from being bored. Happy piggies means it has a great impact on their health. As mine's cage is big, you could compare it with being locked up in your home every day without leaving ass a human. You bet you need something to keep you from being bored. Agreed, we do have had a lot over the years, far more than what they need. Most stuff also wears fast too, like fabric items.
I have a guinea pig as well and seeing how beatiful they are, it reminds me my Olivia who is in Rome with my family. I miss her too much. When you decide to buy a guinea pig you are sure that they make you feel special, give you so much love... I love them...

Thanks! Nope, I don't worry. They were introduced using a buddy bath, between adult bonded pigs and a baby or babies each time. That seems to work best. Because they have a very large cage (over 13 feet - about 4 m), their territory is large enough to not fight. Sure, they can have disputes sometimes and some bickering, just like humans do ; )
I use a lot of old items, like kid's toys, etc and revamp them. I even wrote a book about how to make / get all the stuff. It's called "How to entertain your guinea pigs" on Amazon.
They are playpen grids. several of them were connected to form the cage. Any pet store usually sells them. Mine came from Zooplus, but Amazon sells them too, for example.

What a lovely home for the guineas! Great to see people caring so much for their pets... how do you find using the blankets on the ground for them? You must do a lot of washing, it looks lovely and clean in their home! : )
@imasuperstarish Ask any question you need. A handy person can make wooden hideys with some leftover pine wood. No staples, no screws, just kiddie safe glue to hold them together, pressed together for 14 days to dry. Old toys can be revamped if they are large enough. Old household items too as long as they don't eat the plastic. Etc. It is a lot cheaper indeed, store bought items for pigs are often best bought bunny sized, because most piggie stuff is too small, and those are expensive.

@nerochandesuyo Thanks! I always do a full intro, with a buddy bath to make them smell aline, a full cage cleaning, meeting on neutral territory. I try and introduce different age groups, as being close in age is harder to make them get along. I admit my cage is a lot larger than the minimum, but even if it's smaller than mine, it should be big enough to make them get along. Large enough hideys, food spread out, 2 bowls, 2 bottles, it all helps to prevent bickering.

@LNDmuse The tricolor piggie in the vid was a US Teddy with a thyroid and bowel problem, that's why she was rather skinny in her older years. The others, also in later vids are Rex. They are longer and taller than an average pig indeed. None are overweight, I keep them on a healthy diet: 80% hay, not too many pellets or treats, fresh vegs twice a day.
I'm a chemist myself. if plastic is eaten, it needs to be removed. Plastic is not toxic to live in, but it can cause blockages, sharp pieces can cause internal bleeding. Some plastic contains chemicals which can dissolve chemicals in drinking water, like some type of baby bottles. It's not used for pigs. Soft plastic is never a good idea for pigs, they will eat it. Plastic used for pets and kids toys is safe regarding toxins in Western countries, as they have strict laws and regulations.

We have gathered a lot of different houses over the years, many have decayed already. It's become a bit of a mission to find them different things to entertain them. They do like a change of scenery.
@imasuperstarish I just bought playpens (not the colored ones, they are just not high enough) and connected them together to form a cage. The grids are connected to the wooden base with zip ties to eye screws, which are screwed in the base.

Thanks! I used to use fleece over towels, now I use cage liners (materials sown together) which is even better. My cage is over 13 feet, which means: 5 pigs: wash everry 8 days, 4: every 10, 3: every 12 days. The cage liners have fleece on both sides (see later vids) and get flipped halfway washing time.

I introduce only pigs of different age groups, as it's hard to do otherwise. I always give them a buddy bath, so they smell alike. Then I let them meet on neutral territory with a big pile of hay in the middle. When they are doing OK, I clean the cage completely and put them all in.

@baNaNas3119 I have had piggies since 43 years, so I did gather a few items ... Most of it is made from old toys, old kitchen stuff, leftover wood, etc. I change the setting every 5-6 days, when the cage liners get flipped or washed (see them in later vids: fabric preshrunk and sown together)
That's a replica model of a Dutch long farm, hand made by a carpenter. If you know someone really handy with wood, I can send you pics to copy it. I used to be handy enough to make this myself.
