Anyone else stop and think that sweet tooth's wish came true even in REAL LIFE? He is the face of Twisted Metal. When people think of twisted metal, they think of sweet tooth first. Not Calypso
Even the other drivers, are not anything, just sweet tooth the one who's make Twisted Metal famous, and calypso just a part of the story, no more no less
@@johnjohnson8669 That was literally me. I started with the 4th game as a child, and I understood it completely. Drive cars. Shoot opponents. Twist metal.
The first time I played this game, I was excited with 2 surprises 1. Sweet Tooth became the host of Twisted Metal 2. Calypso was playable and I immediately picked him
I would like to see a "Twisted Metal Origins" game where you got to play in the 1920's, 1930's, 1940's and 1950's cars and eras. It would be awesome to blow up other armor clad Model T's, Packards, Desoto's, Chrysler Air Flows and Chevy Turtle-backs (Among other classic cars) using nothing but those old school round bombs, Thommy Guns, WW1 Maxim Machine guns, non-guided rockets and other era-correct weaponry. And the characters could range from Circus Daredevils, Silent Film era Stunt Men, WW1 Army Vets, Mafia Gangsters, 1930's New York Cops, and what-ever else people were into back then.
2:11 This is actual perfection. The slow transition from old-timey westernish music into a creepy and ominous chorus, only to go completely silent for a split second before much more heavy rock and roll starts jamming to let you know “shit just got real”. Even the frame rate slightly increases to show that this is the start of a new era. It gave me goosebumps when I first saw it, and still does today. Perfection.
I have to wonder if the endings were made before this intro cutscene considering Calypso's model is original to this game, but his ending cutscene uses his TM3 model.
Sweet Tooth is quite ambitious but twisted... He made this plot from the beginning just to overthrow Calypso and take his seat of power as the new carnival master of the Twisted Metal Tournament...
my favourite thing about twisted metal is how much it reminds me of death race and it helped shaped me into the violence loving clown hating and people scaring person i am today
God only knows how severe those nostalgic waves run down the spine. Those sheer first 20 seconds of that intro will shake the boots of any 1996 child. Born too late to understand the ingenuity of the first two games but was born just right at the thrilling breakdown of the Twisted Metal Tournament Saga! ;3
MattSipka well Calypso grants wishes exactly the way he hears them, and Sweet Tooth was being literal and precise. At least that’s how it was up until Twisted Metal 3.
Slash Command Studios Yeah twisted metal black if you want something evil or revenge he’ll give it to you but if you want something noble he’ll twist it
I like to think that Calypso actually tried to screw him over by turning him into a literal burning star (making his head constantly on fire). But since this is Sweet Tooth we're dealing with, he actually liked it.
I agree the maps were very complex, the specials were cool, the boss battles at the end of each match were awesome, my only disappointment was Mr. GRIMM for he was always my favorite, in TM3 it was Grimm and Club Kid!
...liked you could customize your own vehicle and special though. I was a kid when I played it, I always liked having more option to play with. Some specials sounded good with the quotes you selected like "Oooh that's gotta hurt"
My step brothers and I would always play this in our younger days. They used to scare the shit out of me by telling me that the tournament was coming to town soon and that I’d have to get ready. I was six...😅
Remember Crimson Fury's ending in TM1? He even said that after hearing the UFO incident audio he became a "believer". Might be a reference to that, or just pure coincidence.
0:19 "Twisted Metal Circus. Come One, Come All. See Cars Battle To The Death." I paused at the right time at 2:02 to this unused message; "Congratulations! I always new there was more to you than icecream! What is it you desire, boy?" EDIT: As it turns out, it's "See Cars Battle To The Death." not "See the Battle to the Death."
It's honestly really refreshing to see characters like Sweet Tooth and Calypso get such a straightforward backstory! In the other games, they're so mysterious that you can't get a very good grip on them. But Calypso especially is a much more human character when we get to see him start with a small traveling show, working hard to build it up over time like this.
@@crashpalit's been 20 years and this Jaffe elitism still runs deep lol. Won't lie that the Jaffe games were great too. But the 989 games were and are pretty underappreciated by many. TM4 itself for sure had the best car physics compared to all its predecessors, along with many unique weapons like the Auto Lob, MIRV, and freeze bomb (ok freeze bomb was cheesy but point still stands)
This was my favorite game play out of all the twisted metals. It just was so smooth the mechanics, I like the mini bosses. The game just ran so smoothly.
mannn im 15 right now and never played the game when the ps1 first came out bc i was too young. my uncle had the ps1 since the release and i used to replay this game 10s of times at his house. this brings back so many memories. fuck man i love this game
Twisted Metal 4 was one of the twisted metal games that left a memorable impression on me. I felt that it was very unique in ways compared to the other games: 1. Almost all of the characters were original and that they had they're own motives. 2. You can finally play as Calypso. 3. I loved Sweet Tooth's special ( i didn't really care that it was "broken"). 4. The bosses were intimidating (like when they appear, you want to run for the hills). 5. Calypso and mainly Quatro's endings were badass. 6. The bosses perfectly matched with each of the level theme. 7. The story was rather independent and is a stand-alone (then again, its non-canon). 8. Sweet Tooth's minions. It's a shame that TM: 4 was a one and done game (maybe if David Jaffe and the others, can at least recycle some of the characters and add them for a future Twisted Metal game).
+NeoSonic19 not to mention they featured classic cars like super mr slamm and Minion, as well as a bunch of vr custom levels that were just as frantic and crazy as the levels in the game featuring floors that can break with the simple fire of a Napalm oh i love thid game, calypsos nuke bomb and warthogs satellite laser were my favorite specials in the game
I loved Sweet Tooth's special in this game. I know it's the most broken special in the franchise, I believe that the reason for this was because of the wish Needles made when he says that he wants to be the star of Twisted Metal (making him a more or less dangerous opponent) and not to mention that even the bosses themselves were helpless against it. I liked Calypso's Nuke Bomb as well (he wasn't playing around when he wanted to get his throne back). Another part of the aforementioned bosses (except Sweet Tooth) i forgot to mention is the unknown identity of their drivers (which i felt was rather unsettling).
NeoSonic19 Some of the bosses and player created cars referenced past contestants and drivers. Axel was the most obvious one, I kinda wish this was canon. A good way to tie things in would be to say after losing the ring to Calypso, Needles settles into a quiet life as Marcus until he snaps in the 2012 game.
+Handsome: Yes i'm aware of the past reference of some bosses (i added that fact on the Twisted Metal Wikia - Trivia section). Crusher's driver would have to be a scrapyard worker Moon Buggy's driver would have to be either a cyborg, alien creature or both (possibly Quatro's second vehicle). Super Thumper's driver being Bruce Cochrane RC Car's driver could be remote controlled a scientist or kid. Super Axel's driver is obvious Super Auger and Super Slamm - Buster Cobb Simon Whittlebone Minion's driver is the demon Sweet Tooth's obviously Needles Kane himself.
The AI was also arguably the best out of any TM. NPC's would actually fight each other. Also Create-a-driver was awesome. Made it feel more like a tournament, kinda The only issues I had were were the endings. So so so so sooooo bad, even compared to 3. Bad twists, bad CGI, bad bad bad. The only one that I liked was specter.
This intro was always my favorite growing up. Always been a Twisted Metal fan since then. I think it inspired me to be a fanatic of Big beefy engines, heavy metal/house music and weapons. Fun fact you could put this game in a CD player and bump the OST!!
I’d like to see a 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s Twisted Metal, with hippies, Vietnam war vets, Yippies, Punk rockers, goths, metalheads, 60’s bikers, 70’s stoners, mods, wavers, and MTV celebrities as contestants.
@@kaskynightblade8490pretty much yes. That game actually wasn't half bad in retrospect. Would be nice to have a remake. All I'd ask for is to refine the car physics to avert that pesky car flipping mechanic
When I was a kid I didn't know any english, I just thought it was a pretty cool intro. Today, 20 years later, I finally decided to sit and watch it again. It's an even cooler intro now!
This game had some good ideas in it that were carried over to later games in the franchise at least. Like Needles Kane's story and ending in Head-On takes the main plot point from this game of him wanting to take over the Twisted Metal tournament.
“Days into months into years Desiree into envy and envy turned into a plan.” What a great line. What an unbelievable intro to a Twisted Metal. Perfect dialogue and atmosphere and style! Too bad Twisted 3 and 4, everything else aside this intro was hot garbage! But man they NAILED this intro.
You know the old-timey version of Sweet Tooth's truck? It seemed as though that it used a pair of Q.F. 1-pounders for its machine guns, with the special weapon being the cannon turret on top.
I remember when I found out that Mark Hamill was the voice of the Joker, I wondered if he narrated this intro as well because it sounded so much like him. In case any of you are wondering, it's not him.
Besides TM Black this is the best twisted metal imo The carnival map was insanely spooky to me as a kid, sweet tooth’s room, and they had fucking Rob Zombie!!! My childhood right here
2:57 "Calypso's time as the carnival's master of ceremonies came to an end!, My master was ready to take his rightful place!, Seated at the throne of the Twisted Metal Empire!!! muahahahhahha!" mindfully: Sweet Tooth
To this day this game will always be my #1 game I grew up with twisted metal it was my first ps1 game… days turned into months months into years ps1 to ps3… I decided to be sweet tooth for Halloween this year can’t wait to get my sick ass costume going to customize the mask to make it more custom, sadistic and twisted… 💯🔥
Hades: Congratulations, Sweet Tooth. What do you desire instead of ice cream? 🤡Sweet Tooth (Olympus): A star, I want to be the star of Twisted Metal! Calypso (Olympus): Alright then. Your wish is granted. (2:14) (Zapping Sweet Tooth to make him stronger)
They really need to make games based off this story line. From the start with calypso in that big ass crazy lookin truck. Sweet tooth without fire on his head. And all that.
Though I doubt it would be any good, I'm surprised that they haven't made this into a movie. I'm sure Michael Bay would jump at the chance to add this to his collection.
there were some movies that kinda resembled it like that death race movie and some mad maxes. there was even a truck in death race that resembles tm:blk Minion.
Stories tell of a carnival, that would travel from town to town. At its head, was a man surrounded by mystery, who was known only as Calypso. One day, this carnival came to my master's town. It was unlike anything he had seen before. In it, contestants would do battle in vehicles of their choosing for a chance of winning a mysterious prize. Some said this prize was a single wish, anything the victor could possibly desire. But, they also said that the stakes for playing were high. The cost of losing: one's immortal soul. My master also tells me he did not start life out as a clown. He was once a boy. A boy who dreamt of fire, destruction, and Twisted Metal. Word of the deadly traveling show spread like the plague. Great, was my master's skill in battle. But with the collection of souls, he was but a pawn. Days turned into months, months into years, Desire turns into envy, and envy turns into a plan! Calypso's time as the carnival's master of ceremonies came to an end! My master was ready to take his rightful place seated at the throne of the Twisted Metal Empire!!! (evil laugh)
