Got to disagree on this onew. The parents group wanted a content based ratings system. And much like the movie industry they opposed that. The music industry caved and agreed to a voluntary parental warning instead. There was no push for censorship, like some people claimed. The parents groups got a compromise from the industry so they won. The US music industry now is total garbage. But that has nothing to do with the warning labels. Since the 1990s music quality has been on a rapid decline and that started years after. There was still good music being made for nearly a decade after the warning labels.

Twisted Sister, and lead vocalist Dee Snyder were very active in the fight against censorship in music that was being pushed in the 80's. He went as far as to speak in front of the supreme court on the topic. This song became something of a rally call to many young people(myself included) to stand up against oppression and government overreach.

Twisted Sister is just a "good-time" rock band!!! I love that Dee Snider stood up to the US Senate. And that Tipper Gore is lucky that she didn't get sued for slander and defamation by Twisted Sister for the blatant lies she told about Twisted Sister. In fact, if you watch the senate hearings (available here on youtube), you can see Al Gore back-peddling, and using legalese to protect his wife from justified civil action against her.

In the music video the father plays off of his role in Animal House .... that is the better version than just the song, and it is very funny if you get the Animal House Reference. This song gets played all the time at sports stadiums.

It was funny when I heard the members of Twisted Sister complain about being an "unsigned bar-band for 11 years before getting a record deal." They were by FAR the biggest bar-band in New York, which made them quite possibly the biggest barband in North America, if not the world. As an unsigned act They were playing 3 to 5 thousand seat halls 4 to 5 nights a week. They were so big that signed touring bands coming through NY ended up OPENING for TS because they were the real draw. It puts an entirely different perspective on how much they actually "struggled."

Twisted Sister's "hits" aren't even their best songs. They have dozens of better songs. My favorite band of all time. A.J. Pero (drummer) was a child prodigy touring Europe when he was just 10) but ended up playing in Twisted Sister because he wanted to, and it was the right fit. Dee once famously said to him (as AJ was wanting to showcase his skills didn't like the simplicity) "How many drummers do you know that have a beat that the minute you hear it the whole world knows what song it is". It's this one. I've met Dee a few times, (a classically trained tenor btw...) and greatest/nicest guy in the world, and I've met A.J. a couple of times who signed autographs, gave me his drumsticks (autographed them) after and during a show; he was funny, jovial and full of life, a life that ended way too early, but his music and Twisted Sister songs will live on forever because this song and "I Wanna Rock" are literally used everywhere, from political rallies to commercials, movies, tv shows and every sporting event you can think of to pump up the crowd. I have deeply personal reasons why they're my favorite band that I won't get into, but they're grossly underrated and their songs, most of them carry a positive message. They got me through some very rough times. I'm alive today because of Twisted Sister and that's the G-D's honest truth. A famous show of theirs in their early days is a must see. It's available on youtube, a live song "It's Only Rock n Roll, but I like it" is a great example of what they were like live, the energy, the engagement, and audience participation... and this was before they were famous. Lemmy of Motorhead was a big fan, and introduced them to his fans... the rest (as they say) is history. That video is 11:22 seconds of raw Twisted Sister and they kept that up all the way until a few years ago. Dee Snider is one of the all time greatest front men (period). That's what you should be reacting to, and I hope you do someday.

Here's my Twisted Sister story,again. I saw them in 1984,I think,anyway they were the opener for " Dio ". When T.S. hit the stage,the audience uninpressed,there was no booing or anything,people just sat on their hands and looked bored. Dee Snider must have noticed,he yelled at the audience,dropped the mike and left the stage,briefly. It was kind of funny,I was a T.S. fan,but obviously the audience was not. This was at Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates , Illinois 1984.

This was a ballad, in the 80's, when our music was being attacked for being whatever. Dee Snyder, Frank Zappa and John Denver set them straight. While the "Parental Warning" Stickers were allowed, they only boosted sales.

Fun band. Back in the mid-80s it seemed you couldn't get in a friend's car without sitting on this cassette. Everyone had it. Though they weren't highly regarded and were seen as a guilty pleasure. They'd been around for years, and the makeup and wearing dresses and stuff like that was all just to get the audience involved. They loved playing live and getting a reaction from the audience. Dee Snider's testimony before Congress is definitely worth a listen. He makes great points and just skewers Tipper Gore.

You know it's hard to hear this song and not lump all the baggage that come with it over the years as often happens with songs that were so prevalent on radio and have migrated into advertising jingles and whatever else after the fact... but at its core it's really a well-crafted metal song with a great catchy pop chorus I mean what's not to like? I always thought of these voices kind of the utilitarian Everyman sort of weapon, he used it to deliver a message with pinpoint accuracy. Not the greatest singer on Earth by any means, but a great frontman, and a great personality. The other thing that I always think about when I hear this song is the amazing quarter note pattern straightforward as hell they need to peros on the ride cymbal Bell during the chorus it's just like a call to arms or something you can row a boat 2

This song is a more modern take in the vein of Alice Coopers 1975 song Department of Youth. It is definitely worth a listen, although Alice's whole album Welcome to my Nightmare needs to be listened to as a whole to understand the context of it.

Not only income, but it prevents my channel being taken down due to strikes. Unfortunately, it is now impossible to stream reactions on RU-vid because of copyright detection. It doesn’t realize that my reactions are fair use and immediately takes down my entire livestream whereas Twitch does not get taken down. Maggie, I remember when I first heard this track I thought, mmm Slade have gone up a notch. Dee's voice is so much like Noddy Holder and the chord progressions, and drums are so similar to Slade. FYI Slade were a highly succesful Glam Rock band in Europe (not sure but I don't think they got to the USA) back in the 70's, as a comparison you need to listen to a few of their tracks.

At least in recent history Dee Snider has been verry local about politicians not using his music in their campaign rallies. Particularly this song. As you know, I am a fan of Miss Ankudinova. She recently competed on the Russian version of The Masked Singer TV Show. She sang 2 songs that were in her own voice in English. Her own renditions of California Dreaming and Sweet Dreams. I would really love to hear your take on her latest work.

One of the best songs to grow up with in school as a Rebel song along with another a Brick in the Wall, gave us the firepower to rock the school the way it should be rocked to up the establishment,. Great video. Pretty common thing the drop, one of my fav may have been the one you were thinking, Bon Jovi, “You Give Love a Bad Name” Now I’ll have to swing over to twitch and check the video version, thanks Mike.🤘🔥

Dee Snider was a classically trained tenor. He was, as he put it, "a choir geek" in high school. He was actually all state eastern seaboard for singing. He said when his teacher hears him on the radio she cries at how he burned out his voice. He is a long-time married father of three kids and the son of a New York State Trooper. He put Al Gore to shame at the PMRC hearings. Celine Dion had the best-selling Christmas album of all time, and the number one track was a song written by Dee Snider for a Christmas present to his wife Suzette. If you have seen the Sponge Bob movie you can tell the rock version of Goofy Goobers is a parody of I Wanna Rock.
