@@mr.salvatorejpluchino8467 trump used this song during his 2016 campaign and Dee was like now way, STOP!! FACTS! Thank God the sicko will be gone soon. LOCK HIM UP!!!
Remember when Tipper Gore and her team were going after censoring music wanting a rating on rock music and Dee Snyder speaking at the hearing. Very intelligent man.
@@mikde-ye7pi Frank Zappa and John Denver also spoke at those hearings. John Denver surprised everyone for siding with Dee and Frank. All three men spoke very eloquently against censorship and the responsibility of parents to monitor and teach their own children, not rely on the government. Incidently, it was Denver's song Colorado Rocky Mountain High that was flagged as drug related lyrics.
I met Dee at the store I worked at in the city, I tapped him on the shoulder and said 'Hey, man I saw you open for Iron Miaden when I was 14.' He looked me up and down and said "Looks like you turned out OK."
Yep. Have at it. This disturbed SO many parents! I call it the "Golden Age of MTV Videos". Some cheap, but all looked and sounded as good as they could. Then someone found out MTV was making money and put a stop to, well, music videos. We call that "Corporate America". Twisted Sister disapproved.
@@kenttaylor9238 Mark Metcalf: He is best known for his role as sadistic ROTC officer Douglas C. Neidermeyer in the 1978 American comedy film Animal House, a character he later emulated in the 1984 music videos for the songs "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock" by the heavy metal band Twisted Sister. They were more like a 3 hit wonder I wanna rock, we’re not gonna take it and burn in hell were played pretty regularly on MTV, when they actually played music
OMG memories of my teen years. This was one of our anthems in 80s. On this stream you need to check out Quite Riot. They rocked it also. Bang your head
Dee Snyder understood how to be funny and yet it still works as a rock song in and of itself. H's good friends with Mick Foley the former wrestler (Mankind) so that just adds another level of self aware cool.
Typical Gen X household growing up. Many dads were vietnam war vets.. and unequipped to handle their responsibilities as a human being when they came back from War. There was little to no help, for these people. And when you see and participate in horrific things, it changes you from the soul on out. The father, in this video, cannot relate to his family, and it's been a terrible thing for our society. We see this thread throughout 80's videos.. i"m thinking Skid Row, Guns n Roses, Metallica were heavy hitters in terms of helping us young kids cope with the reality of our lives. As fun and colorful as the 80's were, underneath it all there was dirt, violence horror and grit.
To understand the point of having that particular actor acting that way toward the kid at the beginning is because of a similar part he played in the 1978 Comedy Animal House.
Do yourself a favor and watch the singer Dee Snider, testifying in front of a Senate panel in 1985, on lyrics in rock music, he is very intelligent and articulate, and that took those on the Senate panel by surprise, it was great to see him flip the script on them.
I had a friend back around (just before) when this song came out, and his father and step mother treated him like the way the father does in this video. I used to hate going to his house, because as nice as his parents acted to me, I knew at some point they would be treating him like shit, and not even care that I was there to see it.
Love Twisted Sister, got a few of their albums. my fave songs of theirs are Day Of The Rocker, I Wanna Rock, You Can't Stop Rock And roll & Burn In hell. All awesome songs.
This video represents what MTV USED TO BE!! The 80s- an awesome time to be a teen! Also this was on Tipper Gore's PMRC "Filthy 15" List. Dee Snider actually went to Senate hearings to defend artistic freedom
For me, its people like yourself and Jamel and India. Who help me kind of relive the day's of my youth. Your like the VJ's from the old MTV, when it played music video's 24/7. You have about the same format, first you introduce and then comment. Its GREAT, I love it, don't stop. lol
It was an smaze-ballz night for me way back when I was 14yrs old The line up that night was T.S. , WASP , AND Iron Maiden. Best rocked da f"^" night of my life up until 30yrs later and was able to catch "Ghost" on Halloween Night at "VoodooFest" rock in peace
This was our rebellious song! 1984. I was 20. NYCs own. Came to Brooklyn but couldn't go because they said Twisted M F Sister. Strict parents wouldn't let me go to LA Mours Rock Club to see them.
You gotta check out some of their more unknown stuff- which is so much better than their commercial MTV stuff. 1) Horror Terreria; Part 1- Captain Howday Part 2 - Street Justice This is about a neighborhood kidnapper / child molester. So, listen to both one right after the other. 2) out on the Streets 3) Kill or Be Killed 4) Run For Your Life 5) Burn in Hell 6) Like a Knife in the Back 7) Stay Hungry
A serious funny take off in ANIMAL HOUSE from the 70s!! That asswipe played one of the omega house smug rich frat boys. In the end scenes it listed all the characters n what happened to then after college. This guy was killed in nam by his own squad. Great movie with the awesome JOHN BELUSHI. Good song n video. Nice react J
Douglas C. Neidermeyer AKA Mark Metcalf. As much of a jerk Douglas Neidermeyer is, Mark Metcalf is a really nice guy. I have met him a couple of times, He and his ex-wife owned a restaurant near where I live (Milwaukee, WI) called Libby Montana's, great food. His Ex is the sole owner now. But he was always very nice if you ever get to meet him.
I have never watched "reaction" videos but I did watch this. I like your reaction to it. Not much talking and pausing or pausing to talk. (I have been told by my son to watch reactions, but that was his gimmick). I really enjoyed this video. Keep it up!! And staying in the 1980's genre is always a best bet, thousands of fantastic music. Take care and keep the good 80's coming.😄😄😄
Much later, Twisted Sister would go on to do a Christmas Album. And after that, Dee would go on to form an orchestral side project called "Van Helsing's Curse" with a 5 piece rock band, 6 piece choir, and 6 piece string section, telling an original story called "Oculus Infernum", which is very much Halloween themed.
I don't know if you've ever seen the classic comedy Animal House. As others have pointed out, the dad is an actor from that movie playing the same character in this video. According to the movie, the character of Douglas Niedermeyer was killed in Vietnam...by his own troops! I guess he actually survived and sired Dee Snider!! We're Not Gonna Take It was Twisted Sister's biggest hit, but not their only hit. I Wanna Rock was a big hit too. And this was from the heyday of MTV, so a LOT of videos in that era turned the songs into short films, complete with plots. Michael Jackson's Thriller is another prime example.
You say you will listen to ANYTHING regardless of genre - the can I suggest Beethoven's Symphony no 6 or Mars from the Planet Suite by Holst. Would like to see your reaction.
Although I know this song very well and always liked it, I vaguely remembered the great video from the 80s until I saw it a few years back, here on RU-vid. It's good to see some old MTV clips, especially those I missed out on back in the day. I didn't sit at home all day or night watching MTV in those days. By the time I did start watching it, the freaking music was GONE!!
I'm gonna have to call it as I see it JV... There is no way this band should be a one-hit-wonder. There are just way too many good songs. I Wanna Rock, The Price, SMF, Under the Blade...
Dee Snider rocks! I loved this video when I was a kid. My dad was always saying - This isn’t music. It’s just screaming. Of course, then I just listened to it more. Ha! 🤓💕
I went to high-school in the early 90's. At the time, the school I went to had a jukebox in the cafeteria. During lunch, they would play this song pretty much on repeat.
I saw the tour back in the day, they aren't a "one hit wonder", every song on the 'Stay Hungry' album is good. Try; The Price, or You're Gonna Burn in Hell' and of course 'I Wanna Rock'
The father in this video is great character actor Mark Metcalf. He played Niedermeyer in Animal House (which the "pin on your uniform" line references), as well as The Master on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a role he absolutely hammed up.
Lit parodied the beginning of their video Zip-Lock using this same thing with Dee Snyder playing the dad 😅 I didn't really listen to this type of music as a child of the 80s but Lit was my jam in the late 90's!! 😂😂
I never saw the video till now. (I was busy raising three little girls during the 80's. Didn't have alot of time to myself.) I heard the song, of course, and thought it's something I would DEFINITELY have liked during my high school years. I was a bit of a rebel, at heart, though not outwardly. (MY Dad would have dealt with that REAL quick. Though not like the guy in the video. LOL) Love the song. It's sad to think that a lot of kids, through the years, HAVE been treated like this. It's no wonder they want to rebel. Great reaction!
If you've never seen them Animal House was the iconic movie of the 70's & Fast times at Ridgemont High the movie of the 80's. Both worth seeing in your spare time, both very funny cult classics
They wanted the same characteristics of the Animal House character, and they also wanted the father to get the Wile E. Coyote treatment when being confronted by the band😂😂😂
Overall Twisted Sister was a relatively minor group (sorry Dee), BUT, they came out with a few absolutely fantastic songs This was one of them. There was an excellent cover of this, unfortunately I can't remember the band, where they got Dee Snider to be the father ib their video
Mark Metcalf's acting in this video was so good, it made me hate his character from the very beginning of the video. I knew his character was going to be an asshole with how he said his opening line! When he screamed at his TV child the hate I have for his character went up to a 10 on the 1 - 10 scale! I loved what happened to his character, serves Douglas C. Neidermeyer right! This is the ultimate rebellion anthem! No one should ever have to go through that hell, let alone a child. It sucks that some children actually go through verbal abuse like that! There is no excuse for it!
It's head bang not head bop. They do it perfectly so you need to learn how to do it for when you review rock songs particularly Heavy Metal. The father's character is a bit of an exaggeration of the character he played in Animal House. The lines about the pin on his chest is very much word for word from something he said in Animal House. I'm sure there are other lines that come from Animal House. If you haven't seen it it's a must. With whichever Belushi brother died. I always get them confused. And there's some really good music in the movie.
A classic Twisted Sister song. This was on their third album. In school kids thought it was their first lol. Their song you can't stop rock and roll has a cool video as well. My jam back in the day was the kids are back. Not sure if it has a video or not. Still love the band.
Dee Snider, the singer testified before Congress. They were on a list from some parent group for obscene music. Dee was delighted, he said this will sell more albums than anything else. 😂 😂😂
How bands of that era could wear the outfits and make-up and long permed hair and what not and be deemed as masculine and sexually appealing is beyond me. I'm old now, but I felt this way back when these bands were topping the charts.
This has got to be one of the best 80's Rock songs ever absolutely love this song it's just awesome and I'm gald that you liked the video of Twisted Sister they are great and kick ass.
I saw them in 84 when they opened for Iron Maiden on their Powerslave tour. Twisted Sister really rocked. Then Iron Maiden really really rocked. There was a great deal of rockage all around that night.
