Twitch For Musicians - Are you on it? 

I’m 61 and on Twitch just to hear new music.

Circa 1992, I read a "guitar summit" article in a guitar magazine. A pull-quote (by Billy Sheehan, maybe?), in italics : "the most important up-and-comer right now is in his/her bedroom". They had NO IDEA how prophetic that would be....

I recently did a little twitch show in my parents basement for like 12 people and it was really fun almost felt like a real show smh

I guess I’m old I’d never heard it. But I’ll take a look. I’m 62 & see a guy that’s 61 checking out new music. We walked amongst the Gods when Zep released their 1st album. We can do this.

I am 24 years old and I thought twitch was pretty much just for gamers. So I don’t really use twitch, but if you guys had a twitch account I would for sure watch it!

Guys, I've watched many of your videos, and have loved all of them. I think the biggest reason I love to watch them, besides learning about all the many different guitars on the market, it reminds me of my once hometown music shop, and how I loved hanging around in it surrounded by musicians, soaking up any knowledge my young mind could learn. Besides, you guys are too much fun to watch, with all your joking around and having fun with your friends in your guitar heaven. I hope one day I find myself in Southern Pines, North Carolina. I'm going to try every single guitar you guys have in the store. :)

Key to twitch is an audience that you can communicate well with. Cultivating that takes time and is hard but worth the effort.

Been watching Twitch for a few years and I find great new Musicians all the time. People like a_couple_streams , JustineGriffin , Wax//Wane , katerinarossa , Mermaidunicorn , LeonBratt , SamanthaTaylorMusic , Sethdrums, DanDrumstone, Insomniac_rap, ThugShells so many more. There are professional artist like Herman Li, Alicia Vigil , Gee Anzalone , all from Dragonforce (Herman is doing a fundraiser for Jason Becker, and having guests like Alex Skolnick of Testament, Bumblefoot, Tosin Abasi, Orianthi, The Dooo, Matt Heafy (also a twitch streamer), Marty Friedman, Kiko Loureiro and a lot more) TPAIN, Gene Hoglan, Unleash the Archers, Mike Shinoda, Brendon Urie, Mark Hoppus. The moderators of the music chats tend to be other musicians or people you'll see in a lot of music chats. The mods tend to time out or ban trolls in chat after 1 or 2 messages. I have more to say but that's more then enough. lol

My first experience with Twitch was the incredible Trey Anastasio Beacon Jams concert series last fall. He collected a ton of money to support building a substance abuse facility in Vermont. The real-time interactions with the fanbase were also very cool…..just ask Heather McDougal! See, Twitch isn’t only for the young!

It is really difficult building your viewership on twitch, altho the community building aspect can be really nice and affirming. I did livestreams for 5 years, somehow gained Affiliate status (which is one step below Partnership, where you actually make significant income), but never managed to get any traction aside from a few great people here and there. I've made several friends on the platform just from the time we've spent together during broadcasts. Unfortunately Twitch is very watered-down at this point with just the sheer volume of people streaming on it, but if you can do something somewhat original and genuine, people will find it and show their support because everyone is on there looking for a place that they can be comfortable and fit in socially. --Side note: gonna try and do a guitar unboxing (to see if i get what i paid for) live on Twitch later today @ Twitch.tv/PepsMcEps

Very educational. I guess that in the end, for the public, “Casino Guitars” was more palatable than “Guitar Wh*res”, even if the latter may be more accurate.

I love the RU-vid guitar community; what I take issue with is the Elitism among bigger channels. RU-vid is the least ridiculous out of all the ridiculousness online. The straight up marketing and outright lies about music and the instrument we all love - the guitar - sometimes makes me really upset. I am so passionate about music, but when I watch these infomercials for gear (which are getting easier to spot and turn off) it drives me nuts. You guys seem pretty cool. I am new here, but I have watched a few of your videos over the last few weeks. Do you guys own a store? You seem like you have a lot invested in the music game. 🐰🇺🇸❤️🎸🎶🤝✌️

Twitch is becoming a great platform for younger musicians. Also some people have been making ‘some change’ with Facebook live gigs. My friend Pat Fish of The Jazz Butcher has been doing gigs every couple of months and has an optional PayPal ‘tip-jar’. It’s really helped him out as his money from gigging died with lockdown, as everyone else.

Hell yeah, bring on the Casino Guitars twitch stream.

I’d be interested in a video of the basics for setting up a simple twitch rig. Like a simple way to get started with a vocal and guitar. Maybe talk about ways we can do by possibly using gear we might already have by never thought to use that way before? A lot of us gigging player are on a tighter budget right now so a gear “pivot” might be more feasible that a complete gear “refresh”

Twitch is awesome for musicians. The internet is just full of new ways for musicians to make money. Seems like a fantastic time to take advantage of all of these new tools to leave behind an industry that was ok with leaving lots of talent behind.

I would watch you on the Twitch..lol...but when Diablo II is re-released I may not have time to bathe let alone watch a Casino Guitars podcast,,but maybe.

I love twitch, it’s somehow a more supportive community then RU-vid. Amazon Prime customers get a free sub to give to a channel every month. It’s pretty cool.

I had the impression that twitch was a no cover zone, which is cool for some people but it's a different beast than when I was playing out and it was the hits of 90s country at night and zydeco brunches

The worst part of streaming yourself is the beginning. Like just sitting there live on the internet alone its easy to not be talking, then if someone finds you and you're not engaging they'll leave. It's also a slow burn for growing, people stream on a schedule for long periods of time and maybe get 100 mostly regular viewers. But being live saves a lot of time on things like editing, and you can take good clips and post them on youtube or twitter or instagram.

Btw, SC never get old, that is how some people can show us they can do 400 actions per minute. Lol. Twitch is a double edged sword comparing to youtube where you can prep for videos. But for all you impromptu kings and queens who strive on live streams and also have high RQs protecting you from trolls especially early days when community is not strong yet, then twitch is a good place, especially considering that you are on youtube already.

the biggest person i know of on there is matt heafy from trivium. not my taste, but i stumbled on his stream one day and thought it was a cool idea that he was jamming and interacting with his fans.

I have a Twitch channel. I am a Twitch "Affiliate" which is the first level contract with Twitch that they will offer once you reach a certain level of followers and average viewership. I got there as a gamer, which is pretty funny seeing that I'm 60 years old. If I continue with Twitch, though, it will be doing music. It's more challenging than you might think - even at my level, I have a complete studio to support the broadcast. If anyone is interested in trying it, hit me up and I can provide some pointers on what you'll need to get started.

I dabbled with Twitch and I only really care about one Streamer. Tash Nar used to make peeler art and I would watch with my son.

I really don't have time to keep up with even more sites.

"I hate to admit it. I like video games" - why do you hate to admit this? I still don't understand why gaming is something people are hesitant to admit they enjoy. The same people who would criticize you for spending several hours playing a video game each night are likely spending that same time watching tv instead. Not sure how that's any different or somehow a "better" way to spend one's time. Embrace your gamer side! Just like anything else, as long as it's in moderation and not the only thing you do at the detriment of other life obligations or health, then time enjoyed is not time wasted!
