A lot of people don't know this, but you don't have to 100% like or 100% dislike someone or ideas. People think the world is only black or white. People just like to virtue signal and lack the ability to make non-emotional decisions. You can see this with Netflix too. Look at how many people said they were going to cancel their subscription because of what one comedian said or because now they can't share passwords...then Netflix beat subscription expectations for the last two quarters after the loss of subs from Russia. It's all just a show from the small minority of people that speak the loudest.

Well in response Elon has stated on Twitter that it will stay free and accessible for all Third Party APIs only providing services on twitter. Everyone else will have to pay. The reason for this is because by allowing all APIs full access to Twitter for free, you are providing a extremely large and valuable database for free. Elon wants to capitalize on this as he knows the importance of it, being a cofounder of open-ai.

Twitter peaked around 2012-2013. It was so much fun to go on there for a half an hour or during an awards show. Now the apps are terrible and the people who use it are even worse

It’s like the HomePod ad Apple recently showed. Someone enters their apartment and asks their HomePod what the temperature is like inside and after the answer they go and open the window. Whereas IRL people usually know if they want to open a window or not. If you need a device to know if you’re too warm or not then you’ve got bigger probs

MyRadar is pretty damn good. I never used dark sky so i won’t know what’s missing or not as optimized in terms of layout, but from what it sounds like, MyRadar might be a good replacement

If your company's main product's API is used by a considerable amount of developers as a BaaS (Backend as a Service), and their apps are successful, you integrate the features you found beneficial for the stock app, and even reward the original authors financially... Or you could charge a small fee per request depending on the third-party traffic of said apps (like firebase), or even, charge fees towards those third-party apps, which the developers monetize from the user traffic, downloads, ads, etc... What twitter did is the equivalent of cutting off a limb a pretend everything is OK :/

Marques, I am in the same boat as you: Never used the Twitter app, always wondered why people complained about Twitter -- looked fine to me! Read things in chronological order. The experience is so bad now. I don't use Twitter as much and fine the experience more of a task then something to enjoy.

Since the end of 3rd party Twitter apps I'm permanently off Twitter. . I tried the stock app and couldn't handle the "Instagram style" ads directly in my feed. The notifications are shite and so now I don't have it on my phone. Crazy

@@brandon_nope no it doesn’t. Well, not in the US. NOAA provides all their data for free to everyone, including commercial users. And while the European weather model has been shown to be more accurate than NOAA for major storm tracking, Accuweather and similar don’t seem to do any better than NOAA on either the big picture or the local stuff-and a lot of the data that the private weather services use in the US is just NOAA data, unaltered.

I notice recently that Ads on Twitter are only showing up on my phone in the "For You" area but not the "Follow" section. So when I use Twitter on my phone I don't get ads anymore. So twitter is a absolute mess but at least I don't see ads now?

Twitter is wrecked. I now find that searching my handle to find mentions works better than the mentions tab. I miss loads otherwise. Browser and App are so broken. I hate they killed 3rd party apps.

I find myself using all of social media less because of how the algorithm has been designed to draw you to content you don’t really want to see, as well as ads. It’s one thing to have ads. It’s another thing to have ads at every other post instead of more content you like. A whole other thing to see more posts from people you don’t know, people the app decided you should *want* to know, vs people you actually want to check in on. These apps were originally designed as ways to catch up with friends and family and current events, but now they’re all about generating income. It has made for a poor experience. Before anyone asks, I pay for RU-vid ad free experience. I also have an issue with RU-vid showing me less of what I want to see and popping up “popular” videos that have nothing to do with what I generally watch, no matter how often I say I’m not interested. So RU-vid might be next to go as well.

I've realized i mainly use twitter for news so I switched to an rss feed a few months ago and never looked back. With the death of 3rd party twitter apps, I just stopped twitter on my phone enitrely and used it less often in general since elon took over. Oh yeah and I think the darth vader theme at the start fits the twitter situation too lol.

Glad i haven't updated the twitter app since before elon took over. It's been great. Still have the older chronological feed format, i dont need to see view counts or have to deal with buttons being moved around on the app, and best part, i dont see people that bought the blue checkmark. (Idk i guess something about the twitter blue checkmarks vs the official ones just work differently because i still see official ones.)

I started using vanced when YT forced 360p when starting an video at the start of covid. I still need vanced to get videos at 1080p (on wifi 1440p). And the second reason is that there's too many unskippable ads and they have become more annoying and less relevant for me

I don't mind watching ads to give money to creators if the amount is reasonable. Many creators use patreon anyway, and RU-vid is changing the monetization to mostly shorts which many of the videos I watch aren't

Yeah, the VANCED comment thrown in there ignores the fact that it adds so much more aside from adblock. Yeah, I'm sure most use it that way, but look at desktop web browsers and adblockers. People are more likely to use those because installing is easier. Also, for vanced you can let ads go through on some channels so creators can easily still get paid if a viewer thinks its worth it. I use (re)vanced for the amoled black theme, and plenty of other things that dont really breach on a creators revenue.

I mean I get it for ads and stuff and hurting Twitter profits...but then there's things like National Weather Service automated tweets and things like that can save lives that won't happen anymore because there's no way budget increases will pay for Twitter access
