Daniel, You and your wife aren’t the only ones wearing masks. As a respiratory therapist, doing pulmonary function testing, and seeing some of these people who had Covid months ago who still suffer… I don’t want to take those types of chances. A mask is simple enough to wear.
Love all TWIV. You’ve been a lifesaver. Small ask: Music at the end of Dr. Griffin blasts my ears. Is it possible to turn it down? From a loyal listener and supporter. 😊
My cat sleeps on my lap when I listen to TWIV and if I don't get the volume turned down quickly enough the end music blasts him awake, looking for the attacker.
Thank you. As a lay person I really appreciate your reviews of relevant studies etc. Let's all be careful out there and be mindful of others who might be more vulnerable than ourselves and unknown to us.
I will say that having been living in the Netherlands the past 6 years, as an American, I am continually, and I must say happily surprised at how truly altruistic most of the Dutch people I have met are. So your "Pollyanna" optimistic outlook is justified here.
What natural supplements would you recommend? I'm taking appropriate dosages of Quercetin, zinc, vitamins C and D, and melatonin. I also take NAC to build up my waning glutathione (70 years old).
As I am on vacation now, I have been able to watch different US channels and WHO daily reports. It was shocking to watch discussion about semantics - " What name are we ( WHO) going to give to this disease" ? It was disrespectful and infuriating since a man, immunosuppressed person of 41 years old died here in Brasil and two kids were infected to begin with . They speak about watching evidences in the patients and Do Not Say what those evidences are ! . I have been thankful to TWIV since 2020 and inform other teachers in my school of what is going on. All Federal governments are numb and deaf concerning monkeypox ! Clear, direct, Objective information has not been provided by the official government channels. thanks for your generous souls. Re: sound and light sensitivity in Long Covid. I know you are aware that there's a great deal of overlap between Long Covid and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/cfs). Neurosensory hypersensitivity, such as sensitivity to light, sound, vibration, odour, taste and touch, is common in ME and is part of the International Consensus Criteria.
Hypersensitivity to sound and light isn’t unique to long Covid. It’s a hallmark of ME/CFS. This gives me even more reason to believe that these disorders overlap and indeed, in some individuals may be one and the same. -signed an ME/CFS patient still sick after a bad chest cold in 2013
How close is the monkeypox situation to becoming endemic? Have the cows left the barn a long while ago? Did racism and homophobia play a role in the anemic global and domestic public health response?
I still wear an FFP2 mask to the grocery store…just because I don’t want to be ill. This episode was much less aggravating than the one with Dr. Offit a few weeks back.
Agreed! Offit is definitely an expert but off the wall when it comes to masks. Has he never heard of the precautionary principle? He might have infected others while he was pre-symptomatic!
My son was hospitalized on 4 Liters of oxygen after using a standard vaporizer for their sick daughter. They put Zarbees Natural Rub in the vaporizer. No one else the house was affected. The way they figured out it was the vaporizer and additive was the next time my granddaughter was sick they used it again and the same thing happened.
My 92 year old got diagnosed with Covid in South America and was put on Dexa, NSAIDs, azithromycin and Omeprazole! No Paxlovid. I called her Geriatrician and was told that Paxlovid is only used for hospitalized patients as well as Tocilizumab! Praying for her.
The whole Occam/Hiccum thing is an overly simplistic reading of Occam. Occam and Hiccum's statements are in agreement for anyone that is actually paying attention. Occam is "all else equal" which means you need stronger evidence to diagnose a co-infection than a single-infection.
I grew up with a Fijian lady who worked for us. She had contracted polio as a child, as a consequence she had a deformed and atrophied calf muscle. This of course caused her to limp and resulted in much back pain as it put her hips and spine out of alignment. I returned to Fiji several years ago. I’m please to say that Polio was eradicated there and since her generation, subsequent ones never grew up with the threat of that disease. I would like to vaccinate my 17 year old daughter who will soon begin travelling the world. Can the virologists recommend which current vaccines would be the best to cover her ? I did listen to one of your episodes about the two different kinds of small pox vaccines but can’t remember which on is the one that has no chance of her actually getting the virus.
Maybe if we had a coordinated national healthcare system we would have testing and be able to do research etc. etc. healthcare reform long ago needed still needed still lacking!
I'm a retired engineer in China so have no medical qualifications, but my friend in USA tested +ve yesterday and her doctor has put her on antibiotics, steroids and Paxlovid. Don't they read the advice given to medics???
Steroids increase the risk of death if given int he first 5 days, according Dan Griffin in a previous episode. I know you know, Will, but others may not. By the way, 你好 and I hope you enjoy Mandarin. I have studied it for a bit online mainly.
New to this series and really enjoy it. Regarding monkeypox, any chance you could stress that your audience check what sample type their lab prefers? The reference laboratory I work for prefers swabs in VTM, though we currently do accept dry swabs. Dry swabs are very difficult to process on high-throughput platforms and are also less stable. Quest, Labcorp, and ARUP all list VTM or UTM as acceptable or preferred on their sites. Thanks!
Thank goodness HIV is considered still a danger and it is being talked about on this channel. So why not do a full scale study into the mismanagement of the Covid pandemic.
I haven't listened to all the past TWIV clinical updates, so I apologize if you've already answered this, but for those of us old enough to have a scar from childhood smallpox vaccination, will that offer any protection from monkeypox?
I am from Netherlands. The media said... if you care about others... you take jab. That is the right thing to do. Then you are a great person. If you do not... you selfish. Like people get easily labled: Richting, nazi, transfoob etc etc. It all was social pushed everywhere. If you do not comply your out on your own.
MedCram and others have reviewed the benefits of keeping Vit D levels over 40 ng/mL in reducing inflammatory markers (d-dimers) and endothelial damage. 5,000 IU/d is cheap and there are no published studies of Vit D toxicity in "normal" people taking less than 50,000 IU daily for months. We are taught in Med Scool Vit D is fat soluble and we should be careful - but a fair skinned person can get 10,000 IU in 30 min at the beach! Humans were designed to live in tropical Africa without cloths or houses so 600 IU/day as currently recommended is hardly historical in our past! Especially for people not fair-skinned.....
I noticed the change in title for Dr. Griffin‘s episode. I think this is a great idea now that we have so many other pathogens to watch besides just Covid. I think Dr. griffins segment is my favorite.
I am terrified that, when monkeypox starts spreading in schools in the fall, as it certainly will, certain parts of the US will go into full "groomer" panic and teachers will be in danger.
I kinda doubt it will spread in schools or workplaces for that matter. But anything to get people to protect themselves with respirators. Even though MPXV is aerosolizable in artificial conditions, it is not typically airborne.
Radiologic aspect of lung in SARS COV2 and in mycoplasma pneumonia look alike. May be because ,,low temperature aglutinine,,occur ,inducing eritrocite agregate in lung cappilary?
U recommend paxlovid, but state that there are no studies to show it's affect on BA.4/5 or vaxxed patients. So why? Where's the science u base ur statements on? Maybe they should all take ibuprofen.
Thanks for your clear and nuanced interpretation of complex topics. Could you apply your wonderful analytical skills to explain the confusing smear campaign that continues against vaccines, virologists, mRNA, etc. I just had one come up on my feed from Dr Drew interviewing Dr Kelly. It was clearly anti vax and anti mRNA technology, stating a study coming out of Japan that shows a toxicity to the lipid nano particle... yada yada. It is confusing so many people and fueling conspiracy thinking. Ugh! Your analyses would be so welcome.
Switzerland in Germany, how sweet, my biases suggest to me the Swiss won't be offended as they're wealthy enough not to bother, some German's may be a little sensitive to the implications given relatively recent European history... Or I'm guessing I may be ignorant and there's a town/hospital setup called Switzerland in Germany - I am certain I'm ignorant of many things, so this is definitely a possibility.... Love Daniel's weekly reports, so it's just a friendly ribbing at the end of which I may discover 'tis I who am mistaken:)
If SARS COV2 better replicate at low tissue temperature after Christian Drosten (at TWiV Nr 659 at min.29), may be, we must avoid hipotermia, and prevent low temperature at respiratory tract by,,mask wearing,, and by overheating medical oxigen.?. especially in winter.
@@minRef adsorbtion increase at low temperature and decrease at high temperature (in lab.) If viruses use adsorbtion to infect cells, did fever mitigate that?
@@minRef in healty state we are homeotermic If viral infections occur, released interferon induce fever Under anestezia will become hypothermic. Why intubated Covid19 partients are hypothermic?(Dr DanielGriffin indicate in 2020 ,at TWiV ,that some partients with Covid19 are hypothermic when are ventilated) Theoretically hypothermia decrease oxigen tissue needs, but If low temperature agglutinine occur, that can increase erytocyte aggregation.(and may be SARS COV2 replication?)
@@minRef we must not change excesivily Just let interferon induced fewer to worke Even interferon have side efects Even fever have side efects, sadly, but, especially If we catch SARS COV2, may be fever are useful to mitigate this infection?
