If you think about it. Filipinos area really used to be working really hard for very small wages, that's why when people get the opportunity to go abroad and earn twice or thrice more compared to what they earn in the Philippines, we tend to worl twice as much hence why Filipinos have this reputation of being very hard working. And I realized it's kinda sad, cause we grew up developing this kind of slave mindset. And just like what you said, we're so used to being employees working 8hrs shift a day just struggling to get by, that's why we lose the energy to think of things to earn more. Plus it's a risk starting a business when all we can even afford is putting food in the table. We can't afford to take a risk on a business that's not sure on being successful cause if that one business fails, it's like a death sentence for us. Imagine being so deep in debt and earning so little, idk how anyone would be able to come back from a setback like that. I used to have a very positive outlook on life, I used to wanna run my own business, and be my own boss cause I don't like working for someone. Now that I am actually working to earn I slowly lost that drive cause all I have to think is how to pay bills for the next month and how to put food in the table. It's just sad really, sometimes I feel like not living is actually easier
Yes,it is so sad,a sad reality ,that most of us, like me,need to leave job in the philippines that we love most because of low income,it is so hard leaving our family but looking at the brighter side, i can say that i can send my siblings to college,able to help my parents to lighten the loads. (I know that you guys can't relate) Sacrifice+determination+goal=better life than before. Filipinos are known for being hard working people,resilient,we keep going eventhough we cannot stand anymore,we don't lose hope and we dont end our life if we cannot bear the burden,we find a possible solution as we can. Some richest people here in PH worked hard for their success so I don't really want to judge them. Also most of them genuinely helping out our poor country men without the help of the government. But the politicians that are rich is another story.

Super detailed and entertaining vlog from an american living in the Philippines whose been living there since the pandemic. His budget is roughly $750 usd per month.. living comfortably on a 1 bedroom apartment.. he breaks down gas, electric , internet, even his visa renewal bills.. groceries.. take-out food.. etc.etc. Theres also some very successful youtubers from Canada living and building their own houses out there too. The cost of living slightly shifts depending on which province you are in.
I'm a U.S military (AF) retired guy, now living full time in the P.I. I'm a Permanent Resident, but not a citizen. In the country, it cost us about P3M to build our house. It has a surrounding 6 ft wall, which we built. It's nice, but not a mansion or something. It's strong and looks inviting. It's just as good a house as I had in the States, and in many ways, better. Of course, on average, a U.S. house is bigger, but also FAR more expensive. Ours is a 2BR 2 BA, but there is NO bathtub (which is the norm here). Both are equipped with showers. We have two kitchens; One very large one inside, and then what is called a "dirty kitchen" right outside, which has a sink, pots and pans hanging on the wall for quick use, a cutting area (all built of cement), a gas 4-burner stove, and, of course, a covered roof. We also built a 2-car carport, with a slide open gate. I have one SUV, and I own a nice trike. My son has a nice motorcycle he takes to school every day. I also have a generator large enough to run the house easily. Attached directly to the carport is a very large Nipa Hut, where we usually sit outside, have parties/drinks at, and such.. On the back wall we have an outdoor toilet (with running water), and a storage room, built side by side. We get all our drinking water, and water for the entire house from underground, very clean and fresh, using a jetmatic pump/storage tank that is connected to a drilled ground pump, which also has a hand pump on top, so we can get water any time. I have connected water lines to the storage tank (PVC), and have two faucets connected in different areas (w water hoses) to water the plants/grass. We usually hire our neighbors for jobs that we do, which is to both help them and us. Most work for P300-P500 a day, with some more skilled making more. They love to wokr for us, bc I overpay them. Telling you all this to give you ideas. Not bragging.
Yeah we seldom have bathtubs in private homes. We just don't linger so much inside the bathroom, like having luxury time lounging in bathtubs, we'd rather always be on the go or just find something to do, than lose precious time in bathtubs.
Every region in the Philippines has different minimum wages. Manila (highly urbanized city) has 570-610 minimum wage. Here in Bacolod (urbanized city but in the province) 440-480 minimum wage.
Minimum wage in Metro Manila as of now is 610.00Php per day (around 11 dollars) but the minimum wage in the provinces are much lower because in the provinces the prices of some of goods are lower than in Metro Manila. When i was working as a bartender in the Philippines i am earning around 18,000 per month (322.00USD) still not good enough to provide for the needs of my family that’s why i decided to Work overseas as a Nanny to get higher salary even if this is not related to my job before. I get paid by my employer every month 3x higher than i was earning before in the Ph.

When they said that making $400-500/mon is sustainable in Manila. You have to consider thats with a tiny space that multiple people have to sleep in one room. No flushable toilet and taking showers with no hot water a spigot and a bucket. To stay in Manila with US standards is about $2000-4000/mon depending on which area you live in.
I work as a freelancer bookkeeper (working from the comfort of my home) for a trucking company in New Zealand and also another company in Australia, earning $800 NZD and $500 AUD. this may sound still cheap to these countries but this is already a big salary for me when converted to Peso. Our combined income (my husband and I) is roughly PhP 150,000 or roughly $2600 plus in a month. If we're leaving outside the Philippines for sure this won't be enough, but here in the Philippines this is pretty much a little more than enough. We can pay for the tuition my younger daughter who is in Med School, we pay for the monthly amortization of our house and the car, we can pay for the bills and have a little more luxery but still we're careful with our expenses. As for now, this is better for us unlike other people who don't have the kind of opportunity that me and my husband had. My
I remember when I was I high school I leave Pasig,my school one ride away on my apartment, rent is 7.5k per month, I had a cousin but too far in Manila because she leaves in Alabang muntilupa, it's two ride if I leave there, so I had to rent an apartment nears my school, it's hard cuz everytime my expenses is so big unlike in the province is very low budget.
I think Philippines is one of the highest rates of income inequality in Sout East Asia. There's also inequality of opportunity for the poor people in the country, such as higher education and job skills development which is remain out of reach for many. But as a Pinoy it is our ability to be happy and stay positive no matter what the situation is. The strong sense of resilience fostered by the love for family and steadfast hope in God allow us to power through adversity with courage and grace. Cheers guys!
Many of us filipino chose to work in BPO industry to earn high compensation u like the other local companies in the philippines earn 580 pesos a day in BPO in the philippines you can earn at least 20k pesos to 100000 pesos
these experiences are the results of progress in the Philippine economy without the infrastructure supporting it. businesses are growing more demand but unable to supply the market fast enough and big enough because of lack of infrastructure that supposedly would've cut the middlemen. businesses had to raise the prices because of these additiinal costs and still they wont be able to produce enough due to the very high demand caused by overpopulation. as a result the price would mark up again as the stocks run out in the market. its a never ending experience and the businesses are the only ones benefiting.
And that, gentlemen, is why "it's cheap" in the Philippines. Also, majority of the population, was wired for centuries to limit ourselves based on what we're born into.
Yeah the government in the Philippines don’t have a supplement program for a family who have children that is why so hard for them to afford sending kids to school.
A cashier job in mall for minimum wage sometimes needed to be an accountancy graduate. A security guard must be a college graduate. There is no growth even if you work hard. Mind you that only few from old generation has a bachelors degree
It defends on location. Think about it, if the wages are high, the the living standards are also high, and the service will also be high. Philippines would become Hawaii when it comes to service. Philippines doesn’t give subsidies like welfare of any sort. Remember most companies in the Philippines are owned by foreigners because of lower wages. If the wages will go up, most companies will look for another country with lower wages.

If you Have business,Your profit is about 6 digits it's enough to support your family,even if your in a big family Just like Us we had a big family we have 10 siblings, we help our business day by bay, We had no Government trust fund unlike america we Use the Social security system, SSS Government own support system.

the minimum wage in Metro Manila right now is almost $11 but there are small businesses that pay way less. Minimum wage in the provinces is definitely lower than $11. provincial rates evwn dor goods and services are sometimes different.
In my opinion In a call center every 14 days in Two weeks we earn 10,000 and In my experience some of my team workers said that they are some tax that the company subtract a little amount of tax and then all the taxes are given to the government and then the government steals some tax and they earn from getting on it that's why some people here are getting poor and the government help sometimes give to the poor people like of us Filo and they do give free foods and give to some to the locals and village but some government steals tax and subtract it in our 2 weeks income like the Government doesn't care about are people who needs more help and I'm not saying that the tax that the company subtracts it from are monthly income is bad , and I know they is a reason for these and tax are for the people and they are some poor work in a minimum wage like farmers work hard then the government still subtract tax from farmers as well. As a public school teacher last 2014 in the Philippines, I was earning $400 or $500 now a days. My salary is for TEACHER I (one). I believe when apply for Teacher II (two) or Master Teacher you'll get higher salary.

It looks like the interview was conducted in Manila. There is such thing as provincial rate and city rate or rural rate and urban rate. Any job outside greater Manila pays a lot less.
salary rate here is kinda low. I myself work as a quality analyst, which is considered an admin level position, and I only earn $500 a month. that's why I do side hustle just to get some extra cash.
you mention family cooperating for an investment. it's different here families don't trust relatives. it's common occurrence here when an elder pass away and left behind an inheritance even siblings fight😢
To be honest, if we follow Govt minimum wage, it is not enough. There is a provincial rate and city rate. I earn $360 a month, have 8 cats and then there's my family. $70 for my cat food and liters a month $80 for my electricity, internet and water a month $210 for our living a month In short, zero savings.
The ideal family income in the Philippines per month in order to have a sufficient living is 40 thousand to 50 thousand pesos. Massive graft and corruption mostly in the government are the main and major reasons of poverty and scarcity in the Philippines.
There is a program for very old filipino families,per child there is an amount alotted for them.But when they get to college or their lives is already ok,the govt will delete you in their list and look for another family. But life here as we speak is very frustrating.We really need to go abroad to work and provide for our families. I am a 4 yr course graduate,but when you dont know someone in a company,YOU CANT GET THAT JOB. and everything is very very expensive,even food here.
My husband is a tricycle driver and he earned more or less 20k a month, we had 1 child and i am stay at home wife . We owned our house and i have a sewing machine,earned extra money for being a sewer 5k a month. our expenses for a month are loan 6k, 4k for our lot, electric bill 2k, wifi 1k, water bill 1kand our food are around 6k Yes we're struggling but still pushing forward we dont wait for the goverment to help us we do hard labor, we dont live in luxury, weren't pretending to be rich. We're content of what we had.
The low cost of living in the Philippines is the reason many foreign vloggers moved to the country. Living on 3k to 4K a month in the US is way different from living on the same amount in the Philippines.
In the USA wages are high, but service are also high, taxes are also high. And Government control over people are strong. Every beach, mountains, rivers are owned by the Government. In the Philippines Government doesn’t owned anything. Why do you think FiliFilipinos are free to do whatever they want with the exception of crime.
Tax in the PH is less regulated I would say. The typical Filipino with mom and pops small business don’t get taxed. You get taxed in your business if your income is probably more than 100k pesos (not sure the exact). But, my point is tax in PH is pretty lax compared to US where you get taxed every single time you buy, profit, rent, income (and get taxed again from your already taxed money).

But still i work overseas as a nurse in which they provide high salary to nurses which means double or triple the salary .. to provide more and help my family expenses.. as well as ..save for the future.. Most western countries have a healthy number of middle class population. It's not the case 4 Philippines... When people talk about corruption, my personal experience as working professional in Philippines.... i once started investing a residential lot i was paying monthly. After a couple of years the company building the area contacted investors telling us that the town rezoned our lots and that either i pay higher to keep my lot or cancel my agreement with them, they return only a part of my contribution but they take a portion of my contributions for 2 years, i sign an nda, and give up my lot. Is that right? I also fully contributed to a 10 year private pension plan from Filipino company and when it matured, together with other Filipinos, the company claimed bankruptcy and most didn't get the pension back. However, the owners-staff of that company get millions at the end of the investigation.
In order to buy a property in the Philippines. You must be a Filipino or wife/ husband. I've been in the USA for 35 years and I can't buy a property unless you have a dual citizenship.
Managing a country is challenging. You gotta have the heart for the people, rich, poor, basically everybody. Must know the correlation of micro and macro economics, how to manipulate, what laws to put in place, must have the respect of people in position, and must be very consistent, unpredictable and stable... A previous President successfully closed this gap and reduced the poverty line, but the 6 years he worked hard on just went down the drain when the current President sat and didn't have that heart and capacity to think of everything it requires for people not to feel that much inflation. He dismantled and put a stop to all projects the previous admin did, like the infrastructure projects needed to boost connectivity, their putting more time, resources and effort in securing that people in local and national government position vote for them again in the coming elections. Its sad. Even during the pandemic or where everyone was experiencing the inflation the previous President and his cabinet made sure inflation wasn't felt so much by the majority.
It all goes down to each individuals way of life and how we manage our expenses and contentment. We do not have government allocation for our dependents. But we have a lot of government schools that offer free tuition fees. We need to have a strongman who can control those oligarchs and put those corrupt officials behind bars. COLA between highly urbanized cities and rural cities varies as well.

What in the world🤣🤣🤣No way that was an accident, no country accidentally sends that kind of money to a terrorist group! Anyway, this episode makes me want to save money and buy a home in the Philippines and retire.
In the Philippines doing a great job does not get you an increase in pay but an increase on work load😂 And complaining about it gets you the well known quote "If you can't do it...resign"😂
The main problem is these "rich people" has been elected to be our "Country's Leaders"... so yeah. 🥲🥲 We'd also like to improve our lives but because we're fixed on living on day to day basis, it's quite impossible. Your take home pay is just enough - which is why even insurance is not a common thing here. It's beyond means already.
