Enjoy watching first-time nesters, Red-tailed hawks Oren and Ruth, in a tall ginkgo tree on the Syracuse University campus.
Oren is a 2020 progeny of beloved SU hawks, SU-Sue and Otto who died from avian influenza in January 2023. Oren returned to the SU campus that Spring with his mate, Ruth, and built this nest but they didn't procreate. Happily, this year their efforts have been successful and we look forward to following their first brood through incubation and hatch to fledge.
June 13, 2024--Both chicks fledged the nest tree, OR1 in the morning and OR2 followed its sibling in the afternoon. Parents brought food to OR1 in the tree and all is well. June 11, 2024--Both chicks are branching above the nest and spent the night sleeping in their nest tree but have not fledged yet. They return to the nest for food so keep watching! Keep checking Facebook page Red-tailed Hawk Tales for updates! Thanks so much!
On May 26, 2024, the youngest chick died in the nest of unknown causes and the body was consumed. Check Red-tailed Hawk Tales Facebook page for updates as we continue to watch its two siblings and parents and monitor for any signs of illness. / redtailedhawktales
