This is the closing number of Pete Townsend and The Who's second rock opera, Quadrophenia. A story about an English teenager with multiple personality disorder who finally finds some peace. The use of reign and rain make the emotion even more powerful

As a teen in the late 60's, this girl I knew dragged me to a concert in Dallas to see Herman's Hermits, a quaint and very pop band. Fortunately for me, the opening band I hadn't heard of was.... The Who. They played Happy Jack, Jumpin Jack Flash. My Generation. an early song from what would become Tommy. Then they freaked out the entire Texas crowd by bashing their instruments to pieces on stage. Musically, my life would thereafter never be the same.

Best taken in context, this is the last, climactic song of the two-album opus _Quadrophenia_ and is a suicidal youth mulling the meaning of life. It's still a showstopper at Who concerts because Roger Daltrey still has crazy pipes.

Love, love, love this song by The Who! Another rain song! This one is #2 behind The Rain Song by Zeppelin but I have to say that with being a Zeppelin fan...lol. I love Roger's vocals on this song. He sings with so much passion. The rest of the band just kill it with their playing. I could easily see the two of you loved this one. How can you not? The Who put out some fantastic songs. I do hope you continue to explore their music and to hear how much it changed over the years. If the two original members, Roger and Pete, ever get back together to tour, you MUST have your dad take the two of you to see them. I was lucky enough to see them once. Excellent in concert. This album, "Quadrophenia", like their previous record, "Who's Next", I played to death when I was your age back in the 80's in Toronto, Canada. Not sure if I understood it all back then but it resonated, like all of Pete Townshend's and The Who's music throughout my youth, and it left an indelible mark on me. Ah, I can't tell you the number of ways this explosive music and these lyrics perfectly captured all the rage, anger, doubt, attractiveness, fight, love, desire, strength, coolness, and awkwardness I felt being young at many different times. I am so happy to see your response. Terrific analysis. Well done!

"Quadrophenia" in my opinion is their most complex album. There are a few other of their albums just as great, but this is my favorite. This song is the last one on the 2 LP album. Daltrey's vocals are incredible. I think he and Robert Plant were likely the two most powerful singers at that time. Both incredible frontmen too. You should listen to the entire album in order. It tells a great story and you can't fully appreciate it if you don't hear all of it. By the way I saw them in 1988 and they were awesome!

I saw them live. In Cincinnati in 79. It was one of the saddest days of my young life. I was about your age. In my late teens. I have never gotten over the pain and anger I felt that night. I let you Google it to understand why. I don’t like talking about it. It’s to painful. As for this song, so you can relate. Close your eyes while listening to it. Now imagine you have these feelings of being of no worth or importance to anyone. Standing on a beach you swim out to a rock in the water and you stand there, in the rain, with your arms and face lifted to the sky feeling the rain and letting this song wash over you. Then you will not only intellectually know what this song means. You will feel what this song means.

Everyone has their favorite music and I think that depends on when you are exposed to it. I started following the Who when I was around Juliet's age. An older friend had me listen to the Who's rock album Tommy and I was blown away by the studio perfection, emotion and musical talent of this band. Two years later they released the Who's Next album with 2 of Rock's greatest anthems Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Riley. Just when I thought this band was the best ever they then released Quadrophenia 2 years after Who's Next. Quadrophenia has 4 musical and lyrical themes based on the personality of each band member. It is my favorite Who album. It opens with The Real Me which is probably the greatest Bass/Drum Rock song ever and ends with the epic Love Reign O'er Me, which fittingly is the guitarist and song writer Pete Townshend's theme. Stunningly great.

Every member of the Who is a force of nature. Roger Daltry was incredible in this vocal performance but the fact that the guitarist, Pete Townshend, can write songs like this is what really is really amazing. Pete is an emotional genius. I love you girls reactions. Im surprised you haven't reacted to Baba O'Reilly from the same concert that you reviewed Wont Get Fooled again. Total energy on stage.

One of the greatest rock songs ever. Epic on top of epic. But you really need to hear it in conjunction with the whole Quadrophenia album. Unbelievably epic.

I saw them a couple times, the last time barely 4 years ago, the singer can still hit those notes..

!e The Who going insane onstage you need to watch them perform "Young Man Blues" live at the Isle of Wight in 1970!

Roger Daltrey is one of the most underrated vocalists in Rock, in the top 2 or 3 imho. Keith (KEEF) Moon is an absolute legend on drums. You've already heard "won't get fooled again" so your next Who song should be "Baba O'Reilly" "Who Are You" "Pinball Wizard" or for a great rock ballad "Behind Blue Eyes" I love that you're enjoying our British bands like Led Zep, Deep purple, Sabbath, The Who .......we have lots more for you to try

At age 61 i've seen The Who multiple times, the first when I was 17, the most recent in 2014 when they toured in support of the 40th anniversary of the album Quadrophenia, which has this song. Powerful is the main word to describe the sound this band makes, but not noisy, rather intensely good!!
