Beautiful!! I love❤ Ms. Mary Wells and Smokey Robinson. They sound Wonderful together ❤. Mary Wells, Beautiful lady Rest in Heavenly Peace. The music industry misses you. Mr. Smokey Robinson handsome, awesome songwriter and talented. Wonderful Music!!❤❤
Mary has always been my favorite female vocalist. I have followed her career from Motown, Atco, Jubilee, 20th Fox, Aim, Warner Brothers, and Epic. She has reinvented herself each time she moved to a new recording company. Mary had a silky smooth voice that sometimes could be soulful. I always referred to her as Ms. Versalitity. A remarkable vocalist that could never be duplicated. Thanks for all the good music.
So very wonderful. I admire mary wells a lot. Imagine smokey robinson wrote my girl for the temptations and my guy for mary wells. These were 2 completely different songs. Smokey didn't just change the names of the songs, these are two different songs. And I love them both. Those songs will forever liver. R. I. P. Miss Mary Wells. God Bless your soul.
I taped this on my vcr when it originally aired and still have that tape. Two Motown stars . . . from the very beginning. So nice to see. RIP Mary Wells.
Mary Wells' fourth 45 rpm single release was "The One Who Really Loves You," written by the incomparable William "Smokey" Robinson, Jr. It was an immediate smash hit. Mary Wells' career was beginning to take off.

Absolutely 💯They didn't want her to go in the 1st place but she didn't wanna renegotiate her bad contract on the advice of another clueless husband inserting himself in business.. he gave her bad advice.
If you think Mary Wells did no great records after leaving Motown you are mistaken. Check out "Ain't It the Truth" which features Mary delivering a killer vocal and compares very favorably with her Motown classics. I also liked "The Doctor" and "Dear Lover" among others. Saw her perform her dance club hit "Gigolo" live and so glad I got to see her in person at least once. She is considered a legend by her ardent and long time fans.
The commitment to performance is truly remarkable when I watch this. It's so lost these days. THese two could sing the s@#t outta anything and on top of that they are committed to the moment. 60's, 70's, 80's, whenever. Legends indeed.
Wow! This was a legendary episode! Smokey wrote songs that I love and he made Mary Wells a star! Smokey wrote music, that saved lives and relationships! We need his song writing today! I loved them singing together! He looks just like my handsome uncle Hal; at that young age!
Mary Esther Wells (May 13th, 1943 - July 26th, 1992). I remember her first 45 rpm single release, "Bye, Bye Baby" in 1960. I was seven years old in the second grade at the time. Mary's second 45 rpm release was "I Don't Want to Take a Chance" in 1961. I fell in love with her music. When she appeared on television, I was spellbound by her presence. Mary Wells was beautiful and then some. She was Motown Records' first female solo artist. There aren't any replacement for her artistry. Period!!!
On this day in 1962 {December 28th} Mary Wells performed "Two Lovers" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' Four weeks earlier on December 1st it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #7 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100 And on January 19th, 1963 it reached #1 {for 4 weeks} on Billboard's R&B chart It was composed by Smokey Robinson; and the song that knocked it out of the #1 spot was also composed by him {"You've Really Got A Hold On Me" by The Miracles}

Ha, ha, I figured that you had to be there, didn't think that that you were actually involved. I was really perplexed as to how you spotted her. lol Well, good job, that was a good show, I'm glad I taped it.
I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast on television. It was in the summer of 1985 and I believe NBC was broadcasting it in NY. It was a great series. Thanks for uploading this!
Would you happen to have the Four Tops appearance from the Motown Revue? They performed "Standing In the Shadows of Love". I've wanted to see that particular performance again for years.
cheesy?? I don't associate that word with Motown at all. "You Light Up My Life". "Afternoon Delight", "My Ding -a -Ling" "Disco Duck" maybe.... Anything by these two legends is enduring gold, not cheese!
