I stuff my bird, but this year my brother is coming and he's gluten free. So he's doing a gluten free dressing and I'm doing a cornbread dressing. I have to cook it separate instead of stuff the bird. My mom always did a bread stuffing, but I learned to make cornbread stuffing for my ex-husband and love it so much better than soft moist bread. I made my stuffing like my mom's but with cornbread. I don't use sausage; I just use the onions, garlic, celery and chicken or turkey broth. My brother also can't eat food with MSG in it, so good thing I have home canned broth learned from you. Maybe I should try putting turkey sausage in my dressing. Hmmm. (I don't eat pork.) I always start cooking on the Sunday before Thanksgiving - pickled veggies for salad bar Sunday, pies on Monday and Tuesday, table setting and chopping veggies Wednesday for the stuffing and turkey, set out all the cooking pans/roaster, serving dishes. Then Thursday up early to put on the turkey and stuffing and cook the mashed taters a bit later, also put together green bean caserole ready to put in oven when turkey is close (1 hr ) to being done.

@Bonita Demas some people don't stuff the bird with the stuffing but instead use lemons and fresh herbs. We love it stuffed! And will take leftovers that don't fit and bake them in the oven separate for anyone who doesn't like it from the bird. It's dryer that way.

This video as always was ever so fun and I'm so excited to try some of your recipes. I know of a lady that does Thanksgiving for over 50 people and she cooks her bird ahead of time takes it off the bones and puts it in a large roaster and pores turkey broth over it. And like you she does her potatoes ahead of time and so the day of the dinner she really doesn't have to do much of anything. My grandma when she would host a dinner and there was a sit-down she would set the table ahead of time I know people that will set the table ahead of time and then lay a large sheet over it if you have pets. But you are not only sharing amazing beautiful tasteful recipes Becky but you're encouraging us to think ahead and not stress the day of. I have to share a story years ago when I was just Married only a few years I had put a whole chicken in the oven and I was so excited in our new to us home and was so excited to make this wonderful chicken dinner. And as time went on I thought well this is odd the chicken wasn't smelling anymore and it wasn't getting done and then I have found out that my oven had broke. Another time when I was making rice pudding and you put the rice pudding inside of a pan of water and I was hosting Christmas that year I went to lift it out of the oven and the bottom pan of water broke. I had rice pudding with an egg custard exploded all inside my oven all over everywhere. I just remember the tears flowed I had three little ones at the time I was hosting over 25 people for dinner plus children. Got it all cleaned up we were fine. That year I hosted Christmas Eve at my home plus Christmas Day at my home to completely different meals. The one on Christmas Eve was Swedish Norwegian with all the Swedish meatballs and lutefisk and sweet or sausage and all the fixing even fruit soup. Becky you're amazing and blessed is Josh and your precious little bundle that is growing soon will be here. I hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving one Josh's family and just know I don't always comment cuz I watch it on my TV but I haven't missed one of your videos yet. Have a blessed day and much love from Minnesota

It amazes me when I think about my Mom cooking everything from scratch the morning of holidays. I always give myself 2 days with desserts being last on the list to make.I love trying new pumpkin and cranberry recipes each year, but not my family's favorite. Like many families they like the same old casserole. Enjoy Thanksgiving with Josh's family.

One of the things I really like about your channel is how real it feels when you are in the kitchen. Like forgetting to take the pumpkin out of the freezer or spilling something. You make it feel like I came over to visit and to keep you company while you are cooking. Please don't change any of that no matter how big your channel gets. xoxoxo

Wilton’s has cake wraps that you soak in water, then wrap around the cake pan while baking that keeps the outside cooler while the whole cake cooks. They work amazing.

We have always traditionally stuffed the turkey for Thanksgiving. The stuffing was basically a loaf of white bread ripped up, eggs, celery, salt, pepper, diced onions and chicken broth. Mix with your hands in a bowl until everything is incorporated and stuff the turkey with it. Any stuffing that doesn't fit in the bird is formed into patties and fried in butter. Then we top it with sour cream (sort of like a potato pancake, but with bread). Super yummy! :)

I’m with you on the bread stuffing/ dressing. I like it without all the extras, too. I always stuff the bird! It’s safe if you follow ALL of the rules. Never stuff until it’s ready to go into the oven, stuff the cold bird with cold dressing, never over stuff the bird, and always use a thermometer to make sure the internal temp of the stuffing is at least 165 degrees. ❤ 🦃

Because ovens are all different. I get a very inexpensive oven thermometer to see the true temp. I now know my oven runs 50 degrees colder then what I set it too. I then add 50 degrees to all my baking temps.

In Australia we tend to do a turkey roast dinner for Christmas dinner and we always stuff out turkey. We often do it with baked ham and sometimes some other toast meats if we have a lot of people. We have never made stuffing and baked it in its own pan.

We always stuff the turkey. Very simple recipe, from my Italian grandmother, just stale cubed bread, onions, sage, salt and pepper. Super simple, but just like you said, it’s such a tradition for us. It absorbs all the juices form the turkey, and is just wonderful. I cannot wait to try your cranberry upside down cake!!! Love, love your videos! Thank you!!

We always stuffed our bird and also put the dressing in the roaster behind the bird. It gave the gravy a lot more flavor. Our dressing was sage, apple, onions alone with the bread. For us, that was traditional .

Tomorrow I’m canning applesauce and raspberry jam! I’ve recently found Pomona’s and you need zero sugar to make jam or jelly! I have about 3 gallons of raspberries frozen and we’ll never use them. I’m a T1D, zero sugar is a bonus. My grandson loves raspberries and this will be great jam. Spend the extra and buy the Pamona’s “sure-jell” instead of the low sugar Sure-Jell since you enjoy more fruit flavor instead of all that sugar. 🌺

In our family putting sausage in the dressing was the fancy one. My grandmother and Great Aunt Anna (she was the cook for the Pillsbury family) recipe is sauté onions, celery, chopped apples, poultry seasoning, salt, pepper, sage, bread cubes. She would make a broth of water, neck, heart, butter, etc from the inside of the turkey. She would then drizzle the strained broth over everything. Once cooled she would place everything in plastic bags then refrigerate overnight. When baking the dressing she would add drippings from the turkey. I on occasion I will add chopped mushrooms which helps flavor the bread cubes. This dressing was also used during the year for chicken, pork chops and even fish. So good.

Sets of threes are classic!
