I’m so proud of Christine and Janelle for getting out of an unhealthy relationship and culty religion but it’s really unfortunate that they hopped right into a cult of another kind. This deserves a lot more attention than it gets. And it’s not just Christine and Janelle! Meri is also in an MLM and several of the adult female kids are also involved in MLMs. Very frustrating
@@msullivan3531 This is exactly what I was going to comment. Their religion is an offshoot of Mormonism, so MLM's are extremely common within the community. I was not surprised whatsoever when Hannah mentioned she would be doing a video on this in her last video, only surprised it took them this long to join one.
Meri has been in lulu since before the video thing and she's just dug her dam heals when they were exposed and said "I'm loyal" . So she's very much blindly wearing/following/selling.
I think maybe they don't really understand what they're involved in. Like they don't understand that these companies are MLMs or they don't understand what an MLM is. I feel like they're all a bit naive because of how sheltered their lives are. Also I feel like they were still quite vulnerable after getting away from a Narcissist and getting out of a cult. Also being on their own and having to support themselves for the first time. I think they were probably preyed upon and they're doing whatever their upline or other reps are telling them. I also feel like they may really believe in the stuff or want to believe it because Janelle and Christine have both been struggling with weight and health issues. I feel like they're not trying to do anything malicious or trying to fool people. I think they want to do everything they can to make an income from Plexus. I am someone that's been through hell and had some similar experiences. I escaped a 30yr. relationship with an abusive narcissist, I was totally brain washed and it took someone else to show me the truth. I was also conned into 2 MLM's years ago. When I was still in the brainwashed world. It's been 4 years of working on healing, that I am now strong enough to see the truth in everything. I did a lot of work, a lot of research and learning. Plus in depth trauma healing and watching lots of educational and informative videos like these. It takes a lot to become strong and learn how to tell when something is true or not. When you've been constantly gas lighted for so many years it becomes really difficult to know what the real truth is. Now I'm specifically speaking of Janelle and Christine. I honestly feel that they are being told what to say and post. They're being told that this is what you need to do to make it in this company. So they're just agreeing and doing whatever they're told and believing they're doing something good. As far as Molly and Cynthia, I feel they know what they're doing. They're both legitimate business owners and they're pretty savvy and street smart. They've both been single taking care of themselves for quite awhile. I just don't think they're as naive, but who knows. Maybe Molly is gullible, I mean she did fall for a love and marriage scam on 90 days. So I'm not sure. I do know when I got talked into Avon or Mary Kay, I did everything possible to sell my products and did listen to whatever my upline told me to do. Looking back I did things that I would never do now. Honestly I didn't know then that I shouldn't be doing those things. 🤷
Is Janelle officially out of her relationship with Kody? I had heard rumors, but didn’t know if it was official. It is frustrating that they are getting involved with Plexus, but at least they are taking some positive steps in their lives.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Plexus approached them directly to join and paid to put them up the top of the pyramid knowing that their following would make Plexus more money.
As someone with a malabsorption issue that recently put me in the hospital, let me discourage everyone from messing with their body’s natural processes. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
ugh yes. I believe I may have one as well (but 19 years and counting and no doctor believes something is wrong with me yet. here's hoping I get help before I die) I ended up in the hospital too. Constantly passing out. Haven't felt remotely healthy in years. Stunted growth as child. I would not wish malnutrition on anyone.
A high school friend of mine sells plexus. She was overweight for years and years while selling plexus. Then a couple of years ago she got gastric bypass. Now, at first she was very transparent - She posted about her recovery. She used gastric bypass hashtags all that stuff. Then, predictably, she stopped talking about it and continued promoting plexus using pictures of her before and after with watch me or join me style hashtags. Every once in a while, she’ll nest in a little gastric bypass tag among her plexus hashtags but if you ask me, that’s just as bad as an influencer hiding their ad disclaimer behind their captions.
I hate that it's such a normal thing in the mlm world to do that. Get surgery and then give credit to the mlm products. It's so messed up. Praying on people's images of themselves is low
The main thing I've noticed over the years with Reality TV Stars/Kids/etc is that they fall into the MLM trap super frequently because they're in this weird gray zone of "too famous to be able to easily work a normal job" bc everyday ppl would make it impossible would just cause issues, and "not famous enough to survive off of whatever royalties if any are coming in".. so like, they're kinda almost stuck in a weird way???
That's exactly what I think as well. But hey there's more work from home jobs then ever before. They just have to want to work a regular job, without the fame and attention. I think that's part of it, going from being a star on their show to the average person working a9 to 5 to pay the bills
I'm sure you know his, but the body needs a certain amount of carbs and sugar to function. How would we know if we weren't blocking too much? Plus, remember the fat blocker Olestra? Some sh*tty side effects 💩💩💩
They all have a "grifter" sort of personality --- sort of like I know this really isn't true TV but here it is , And then the MLMs are the same --- I would love to sell you some of this- its really doesn't work --- but if you buy it I will be your bestest friend
Including Pricsilla Maass from Fathering Autism. It is bad enough that they are exploiting their nearly young adult daughter with non verbal autism and IDD, she became a top seller in Limelife just because of the parasocoil relationships adults have with her daughter.
I've bought Plexus before. Not for me but for my cat. See, when I adopted my cat, he had 'known stomach issues' and the rescue had put him (the cat) on the Plexus's probiotics. I was told that it was the only thing that controlled his bowels and vomiting. I adopted him mainly because no one wanted the cat due to his stomach issues (he had been passed around from one adoption place to another for a year) and I knew that I could give him the love and attention that he needed. I kept him on the probiotics for a couple of years, bought it from a person I didn't know, never met but was who the rescue had used to get it from. Will say after two years, it got old. Never saw the 'stomach' issues that this cat was suppose to have, so I stopped giving him the probiotics. It's been 3 years now since his last pill, and still no issues, just a normal cat living his best life. His only problem is he will beg for 'people food' and I think the original owner fed him table scraps which cause the 'stomach issues' that they claimed he had.
it is possible he really did have some kind of temporary GI illness i suppose... but yikes, human medicine can't possibly be good for cats; i was expecting you to say the probiotics were CAUSING his issues
What the hell? Giving probiotics to a cat? I don't criticize you, mind you, you did what you thought was right. But you don't give something conceived for the human body to a cat... the rescue was irresponsible. If the poor kitty had stomach issues, the obvious solution was taking them to the vet. I'm so tired of these culty people who think their shit will resolve any health problem in the world. I'm sure some of those people poisoned their pets with their crappy products.
@@Artchick1972 I adopted him from my vet's office who had him in their office, in a cage in hopes of finding him a new home. Long store short, they were giving him the probiotic from Plexus, said it was working and didn't want to change anything due to his history of 'stomach issues.' I've had the cat now for several years and he's doing fine. Vet says that he's happy with how the cat has turned out except for still being overweight from the year he spent in a cage, going from place to place waiting for someone to adopt him.
Christine has all the plexus posts with comments turned off … it’s so sad that they are getting out of one cult just to run straight into another one 😢
Can you imagine if that carb and sugar blocker actually worked?!!!! That would be a HUGE thing. The idea that you can eat and do whatever and just take a pill/powder to negate anything you ate is impossible. That is not how the body works.
I'm worried on if a diabetic might hear that claim and do something harmful that will raise their blood sugar, thinking the medically unfounded advice of the supplement is true...
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValleythis is exactly what I thought. If this worked no diabetic would ever need insulin again lol so obviously it doesn’t do what they’re claiming
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley yeah, but we check our blood sugar, so you’d probably notice that your blood sugar is still high and it’s therefore not working.
I have a Facebook "friend" who constantly shills Plexus and goes on and on about how she lost 100 pounds on it. What she forgets to mention is that she also changed her entire diet to a vegan diet, and eats WAY more vegetables, too. She also gives it to her kids and says that their bodies have also changed due to Plexus, but they've ALSO changed their diets to be "healthier." Like, yes, you've lost weight while *actively drinking* Plexus, but the other changes to your lifestyle (such as diet and exercise) are *probably* where the majority, if not all, of your weight loss has been from.
A change of diet doesn't just help you lose weight, it helps you in other places health wise too. One of my college professors told us how one of his kids had really bad gastritis, and as someone who worked as a pharmacist, he didn't like feeding his kid so many pills. So he and his wife slowly changed the whole family's diet to a healthier one (so that the kid didn't feel like it was only him) and the symptoms just stopped. They obviously still have antacids on hand just in case they have to eat out at a restaurant or something, but the condition isn't as severe. Gastritis is basically the stomach mucus getting irritated and producing more acid than normal, so getting rid of whatever is causing said irritation can help.
@@ZimVader-0017 So true! It can change your energy levels, help your cholesterol, and a whole slew of other stuff. This lady was adamant that all of her newfound health was from Plexus alone and my eyes were rolling so hard. 😂
@@grandlandor Yes, that's also a factor! Like of course you're going to lose weight when you have a caloric deficit*, Sheryl! *barring any health issues, I'm just speaking in general terms here
I haven’t watched the video yet but I’m so excited. I seen Meri on live recently selling clothes for Lula Roe. I commented that I thought they were going out of business and she responded “Oh no, you’ve been listening to rumors.” 🥴
@@HannahAlonzo yes! And Meri also has hosted a “retreat” in the past but totally unrelated to LulaRoe; and she just posted about her second round of retreat and prices here $6k a pop. Outrageous! Would love for you to do a Meri video about her Luluroe and retreats, this would be a great part 2 to todays video. Love your content!
This is the first vid of yours I’ve watched. I’ve been watching Sister Wives since it premiered and follow some of them on social media. Intuitively it felt gross to me too but you explained it so well. I’d never considered how they exploit parasocial relationship. Super well done.
I remember when I first started watching you, you used to say 40, 50, 60 videos on the playlist and now it’s over 160!! I love watching all your videos and hearing all the commentary you give.
Hannah is sooo good at explaining everything about MLMs. And she does it with professionalism and kindness with just a touch of snark. I wish there was a way to allow every person who is considering joining an MLM to watch her videos before they take the plunge.
I used to roll my eyes so hard when people would tell me I was glowing when I was pregnant but when the video started I was like “yup, Hannah is glowing!” You look so nice here. It’s funny because I felt like crap most of my pregnancy and people would say that and here I am doing the same thing 😂 Love this topic - this family is a hot mess!! Anyone remember when Robin tried to start a weird business? My Sisterwifes Closet or something? It was cringey that’s all I remember
Lmao in that first post from Janelle she said there’s no dyes but the drink is unnaturally pink. But also wouldn’t something that blocked the absorption of sugar be super dangerous considering our cells run off glucose?
This really rubs me the wrong way😡 I think it's exploitative and definitely predatory. They are banking on the fact that they have people who follow them, possibly support them, and want to use that to make money off of them, getting them involved in this scam to lose money while they thrive. It's so gross!
You are absolutely right. Back in the day, I joined a forex mlm because there was a reality tv celebrity lady who was a part of it. I got to have a 1:1 call with her & even joining in the team calls, I was awe struck for a while. I didn't like the company trading interface & overall, I didn't like the business. I just wanted tl meet her. Such a slippery slope. She sold religion & wealth through her platform. When you combine those elements, it is bound to get toxic really fast
I was wondering if you were ever going to talk about this because it also rubs me the wrong way. The reason why Christine & Janelle look so good compared to the past is simply because they left a bad marriage. But they are spinning it as it is all because of Plexus. It is soooooo weird - gives me the ick. I appreciate the deep dive. You've gained a subscriber for life!
There's another reason these particular reality stars are hustling their fans with mlm "oportunities." People who've been following the TLC show know there's some financial uncertainty now that the family is breaking up (destroying the premise of the TV show portraying polygamy). Also, due to the way fans have reacted to the various personalities involved, Christine and Janelle in particular are enjoying alot of fan support and sympathy, and are generally seen as victims who "escaped". Pushing their side-hustles now is just striking while the iron is hot, taking advantage of favorable fan opinion while it lasts.
Christine's daughter Gwendolyn Brown has a RU-vid channel and has said in a recent video she wouldn't recommend joining an MLM if you don't have a platform..
I love the way you described TLC as a channel about personal stories. I literally did my college internship there and still have no way to describe that job to friends and family or what we do there as elegantly as you did. Thank you! I’m job hunting currently and would love to wind up back there as I’m passionate about the content too and will keep that description in my pocket for a rainy day! Even in interviews at other companies, that’s just a super helpful term to use to make it sound fancy that we made trashy reality tv shows 😊 (no hate, sister wives is my favorite show!) 👯♀️👯♀️
When I was in an mlm there where several woman from Little Woman that joined and hit big ranks the same day they joined. One lady even had an actress on her team. I was like how do you compete with a celebrity ? But all the company sees now is big money.
I would be curious if Plexus themselves were involved in the decision as well. Like you said, this kind of just amounts to a quick buck for the Sisters, but Plexus gets potentially thousands of new recruits. I wouldn't be surprised if some bonus money went into to pockets of the Sisters for this as well.
I love the positive energy you put out there into the world and into and through the universe. Hard times like these definitely need more healers such as yourself. I hope you have a great day today👑✨✨
Of course they know what they’re doing! Those ladies deserve so much more in their life and should be striving to get out of the spotlight and find out what their passions are. It’s really disappointing. Seems like they’re jumping from one emotional boat to another emotional boat. Exploiting people is not what I thought they would end up doing with their lives! So sad and it also makes me sick to my stomach. Especially when they have the potential to hurt so many people emotionally and financially😢
I refer to the station as TLC-Terrible Life Choices 😂 I watch a few TLC shows, including Sister Wives. I’m a Las Vegas native and they lived down the street from me, so I started watching the show.
My takeaway from this is that TLC either doesn't pay enough, or these women are capitalizing on their "fame" to make more money. I'm betting on the latter, and if so... just no.
Gwendolyn Brown has a you tube channel where she watches the latest season and reacts to it....the last video she reacted to....someone asked her about her family being involved in MLMs ....she literally said "they love MLMs because they have a huge following which makes being successfull in MLMs EASY!"
I just saw the CRINGIEST mlm ad before your video 😂 5 women walking towards the camera in the most AWKWARD way with “beach BOSS influencer” matching T-shirts 😭😭😭😭😭
I love this! This is such an important video because I actually watch sister wives! So me, like a lot of fans are happy for Christine and Janelle leaving/left. I Which ultimately means they get more fans on their side they can recruit .😢 I went to go follow them on IG after this last season until I saw they were in a MLM! 🤦🏻♀️
I lost 89 lbs over COVID lock down from exercising everyday and cutting down! That’s it! No drinking anything pink! Not even lots of water! Just pure determination!
Honestly, after watching all 17 seasons of the show, I don’t know if these ladies possess the critical thinking skills to realise what they’re doing is unethical..
I would say they do. Where did you watch the show from? USA or EU? There apparently is a difference between Europe and America in the edited version. With Europe being less edited and more showing than the American version.
I got involved in a mlm" "SCAM", selling jewelry and living in a rural, there was no way to be "successful", with no way to "recruit." Ugh , lots of product purchased, still own, but lost money.
I just stumbled across a video (that features you, Hannah, briefly!) by Jordan and McKay about how MLMs have roots in Mormonism, and oh it explains so much about the fact that this is a women's thing to do from home, focusing on weight loss, beauty (Mormon goals) and household items/prepper stuff (a basic principle of the faith, stock up), and the predatory, exploitative practices and claims like "This will heal you". These hosts grew up Mormon themselves and this was eye-opening, starting with the tithe (giving 10% of what you make). It's a distortion of church teaching and LDS has addressed "affinity fraud" as something that can get you excommunicated but the similarities remain: these schemes borrow language and concepts from religious organization and thus it resembles a cult.
I just found your videos. I used to watch Sister Wives, 90 Day Fiancé, and Pillow Talk, and I used to follow all of them on Instagram. The only one that I still follow is Cynthia, and she follows me back. But I started noticing a long time ago that she and Molly Wasn't doing Pillow Talk, they Wasn't posting together, and they Wasn't working in their boutique together. Cynthia got smart and knew what was happening, so she got out.
Omg did anyone get the ladies in the pink "beach boss influencers" pro mlm ad on this video. First time I've seen it. Initially I thought it was an anti mlm ad and was so excited but sadly no. Can't tell if they are just a business exploiting desperate mlm huns or whether they themselves are a new mlm that teaches you how to mlm. Either way, wild! Hannah if you're reading this I'd love a video on them 😂
I love watching your content Hannah. I have always been fascinated with the psychology around mlm’s and cults as there is some major cross over. I mostly wanted to comment today because I find it so funny how advert algorithms work. While watching I was forced to watch an ad for a company that helps “network marketers” better market themselves online- it was such a cringy and stilted ad. But I love that they have wasted ad money to advertise to me (and likely other people watching your content) because we all know how crap mlm’s are and are not really their target audience. Sometimes the algorithms work for good! Keep up the good work, exposing the predatory practices of mlm’s.
Not to be creepy but, man, Hannah, you are glowing! Looking more beautiful than ever. I am so happy to be watching this btw. I’ve just finished binging on your top fails playlist. 😍
Plexis is also heavily involved with fundamentalist and a decent amount of religious figures. 😅 Thanks Fundie Fridays for making me aware of the connection. It’s getting crazy. 😂
@@meggie423 of course not, I just thought she was the one with some common sense regarding business as she saw right through the Sister wives closet idea.
New subscriber, LOVE your content. Saved me from joining an MLM myself. Did you know another TLC star Audrey Rolloff is a Young Living distributor? She has some interesting “claims” what the overly priced oils do for her and her children.
I never get less baffled when you explain MLM structure. Like how does anyone think this is better than single-level affiliate commission marketing? everyone makes more money, there isn't a need for constant recruiting because people ARE making more money...
I remember Tyra Banks was starting an Mlm maybe about six or seven years ago! It would be interesting to know what happened with that because it never got off the ground. Thankfully.
We were rooting for you! We were all rooting for you! *insert the classic Tyra GIF” 😂. This sucks - we were all so relieved they left their horrible husband!
Girl!!!! Did you know that Molly has added the twins from Atlanta (I think they're from Atlanta don't quote me on that one ya'll) on extreme sisters on TLC to her team??? This is so crazy, TLC needs a new contract made so this doesn't happen. Its preying on people that are "fans" of these women and I am not here for it. It's so awful. Sending you loads of loves, hugs, and light your way pretty girl! 💗💗💗
What a pity. I had a lot of respect for these two women, Janelle in particular. Not so much so after watching this video... Janelle is a very smart woman. And more than that, she’s especially smart about finances. She knows what she’s doing. With that said, I really enjoyed your style of presentation and storytelling here. Going down the same rabbit hole that you did was intriguing.
Ooh, nice catch. Kim Zolciak Bierman of RHOA is a Modere consultant - she’s been doing it for years. She’s pouring collagen into a spoon on her pinned IG post
Tlc is disgusting. They are very much the same as mlms morally. They will use people to male a dollar. It's blowing my mind to see so many who adamantly disaprove of mlms are simultaneously fans of the show or network. I don't understand how. 😕
I haven't even started watching but the ad on this is from something called 'Beach Boss Influencers' and it has like five women in jeans and matching pink shirts with their name on it slowly ambling towards the camera in different locations around a hotel or something and it's SO creepy.
It’s so interesting that TLC used to be about *learning* in their early years., Even though I am American and live in the United States, I have never heard of any of those shows.
That’s very deceiving. People would think that they get to meet these ladies. People most likely won’t even see them at the trip since there will be too many people there. They won’t with the Plexus trip. Unlike a celeb cruise. Regular people will at least see the celebs. These ladies didn’t say that it’s their own trip with people in their downline. Like how BossLee’s was. It’s just a yearly mlm trip.
I give you 100 points for explaining who everyone was for people who don’t know. I unfortunately know them because my aunt watches all of those 90 day shows and I love my some Sister Wives but I will watch Happily Ever After LOL It is so addicting LOL Love this!! I am so glad Christine and Janelle left Kody but they must love cult stuff because now they are doing this MML crap!! I wonder if they got Molly and Cynthia involved in this or what? Ugh… it is so tacky!!
Christine was in Lularoe before Plexus. She started Plexus and announced she was giving her downline to her daughter Mykelti. The only wife not involved in an MLM is Robyn. She's never held a job except for defunct jewelry My Sister Wives Closet.
