Liz we have followed you for years, love the direction of the channel we’ve owed 9 rvs in 35 years NEVER had we had problems having said that 2 years into owning our Jayco class B swift li we have not been able to take any long trips, only a few close to home, it’s been in the shop over and over for the same issue and they just can’t get the repair done properly, this last time it went in and sat there for 3 months we just picked it up and it’s still having second alternator issues which they’ve replaced. UGGG I dedicate hours into phone calls and emails and it just seems we will not find a solution, and this is not our first Jayco we were pleased with our previous one. Thank you brining these issues on your channel I feel we are not alone

Until lemon law protection is applied to these industries, I will never consider buying one.
@scottmichaels6854
@scottmichaels6854 2 месяца назад
Unlike automobiles, RVs are not necessary. Therefore "Lemon Laws" will never apply. RVs are basically toys for people with disposable income. Yes, many people believe that RVs are the same as actual homes, but that's not true. RVs have never TRULY been built for families to live in them full time. RVs are luxury items so they will never be treated the same as vehicles.
@mamabar6811
@mamabar6811 2 месяца назад
@@scottmichaels6854that’s a lame argument. Would you say that lemon laws shouldn’t apply to luxury ‘toy’ cars like Lamborghini’s and McLaren’s? Any product we buy that can’t be repaired with a reasonable amount of attempts should absolutely be subject to either a refund or comparable replacement. Perhaps it’s time to get Congress involved. If that fails, then the voters can get a proposition on the ballot. Once it passes in one state then it will set a precedent for other states. We can’t just throw up our arms and say “oh well”.

My Thor Tellaro (class B van) had a long list of factory defects. First shop visit was 5 months! I was going insane and BEGGED Thor to help. We were waiting on a part so I asked if they could take the part from the factory line so I could get on the road. They said... and I quote.... 'those parts are for paying customers' The entire electrical system failed for two years. Multiple shop visits, they even flew in an expert to look at it. Nobody could fix it. Thor ran out the warranty and left me hanging. I hired an independent tech who found that Thor had failed to flip the physical switch to turn on the inverter. Two years of pain because they failed to turn on a switch during the inverter install??!!! Don't buy anything Thor.

I have owned a Fleetwood, I am shocked about the claims made by a customer. I sincerely hope that Fleetwood steps up to the plate and buys back Crystal & Sue's Fleetwood RV. Based on all the reporting I have seen, a 6 month warranty extension and $5,000 is woefully insufficient. It's been in the shop 50% of the time of ownership. Fleetwood, buy back their RV. I'd take the RV and park it across the street or road in front of the RV dealer where it was purchased, or better yet by the MFG's. Then hang about a 100 lemons on it and a big sign that reads "if you like lemons, your at the right place, they sell them here". I know a guy who did this with a brand new car he purchased from a ford dealer. The car had less than 50 miles on it when problems started. It was in the dealers repair shop 8 times in three weeks. The last time the motor was totally locked up, would not turn over. Dealer said they put a new factory motor in it when they returned it to him nearly two months later. Just a week after that the supposed new motor was installed, it too locked up. He had it towed back to the dealer but had it dumped across the street. He hung dozens of lemons and signs all over it. Nothing they (the dealer) could do about it (legally parked on a public street). People were leaving without going into the dealership after seeing his car on display. It sat there for two weeks before the owner of the dealership called him. The owner took the car back and gave him a full refund. He bought a chevy the next day. Lemon laws don't apply to RV's, it should, but you sure can make good use of lemons in advertising where you got yours from!!!

Your lemon-story reminds me of a former co-worker's story. After getting screwed over by a local car dealership, he decided to spend his next Saturday walking his cute little dog around their lot. He knew his dog was a person-magnet, allowing him to tell his story to almost every potential customer at that dealership. After a few hours of that, he said the dealership became very eager to make things right! 🤣

@greg1474
@greg1474 2 месяца назад
@@reverett0508 - Auto manufacturers are subject to both state and Federal Lemon Laws. RVs are not (except for just a couple of states that have Lemon Laws, and even those are not very strong). The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 (which is a Federal Law) has a loophole a mile wide. It says that the manufacturer is allowed a "reasonable" number of repair attempts. Reasonable can mean anything, so if your RV is in the shop ten times in the first year for repair attempts, that is "reasonable." Listen to Steve Lehto on RU-vid ("Lehto's Law" is his channel). He is an attorney who specializes in automobile litigation and is an expert on Lemon Laws. He used to take RV cases, but no more. In short, these cases are almost impossible to win. Not only is the law allowing RV manufacturers to get away with anything, but the paperwork that new RV dealers make you sign is iron-clad in their favor and takes away ALL of your rights as a consumer. My advice is to sell your RV if you have one, and do not buy one if you are thinking of purchasing. Rent one instead.

I'm retired now. I was an RV technician, welder and electrician. I've been looking at RV's. Because of all the bad built RV's, I've decided to buy an old RV with appliances that I like and completely rebuild it. I can only trust myself to do it right from the floor up. I've already rebuilt one from 1971 with new walls, roof, electrical, plumbing, beds, bathroom floor. And it turned out great. I even put solar on it and an inverter. It breaks my heart to see these people suffer with these problems. For me it was something I really enjoyed. The total cost was around $6,000 to buy it and rebuild it. I did it in about a year, taking my time. There are so many old RV's out there.

Can you imagine, as some here, spending well over $1000K and it's only made to operate for short periods of time? All RV's need some 'fixes', but we're talking 'falling apart' quality, enough to get it off the lot, and that's about it! I agree, anything beyond 2020, isn't worth owning, unless it's one of the more expensive unit's, past the $400K range!

With over a million members (easily obtainable) you would have the clout to tackle: standard sales contracts, warranty language, lemon laws, group insurance, finance issues, construction and safety standards, recommended and approved manufacturers, repair services, etc. RV owners are a segment of the buying public unrepresented and at the mercy of big consolidated manufacturers. I'll be going to Hershey RV show this year, I just can't wait to find these Manufacturer reps and mean mouth the crap they build and their customer service. The RV industry is hurting and therefor they're being tight fisted with their money to keep the stock price from crashing. RV dealers are laying off not only sales but also service as well due to very slow RV sales cycles.

I have two friends who have fifth wheel campers so I am familiar with some of the issues that they've had in the past. Fortunately both of them are mechanically inclined and fixed the simple things themselves and there were plenty of those issues. I was responsible for receiving a race car fifth wheel which would haul two race cars, one in the top and one underneath and I can assure you that that fifth wheel race car trailer had just as many problems as most of the motorhomes have with the exception of plumbing issues. There were some plumbing issues but they had to do with hydraulic leaks for the system that lifts the car to the top bay so we had leaking oil everywhere. Unfortunately they'll hire almost anyone to work in these places and they are not properly trained. I cannot believe in this age of social media where people sit around and talk about this at campgrounds they would be foolish enough to not take care of their customers. The financial arm of the RV builders are running the show instead of the people who really know what the problems are.

Way to go Liz ! I feel bad for the couple with three trailer from Heartland I tried to deal with them after my Shadow Cruiser was deemed “ scrap” after one month. Water damage to roof and floor from sitting 1.5 years at dealer. After Ottawa dealer said “ not our problem “ I had to deal with Heartland They would “Fix” everything if I spent $6000 to ship it there and back, in the dead of winter. But Ryan Jensen in Indiana mentioned cupboards and vanity swap …. No ripping up floors and roof So I contacted my insurance and they had their inspector’s look at it. Total wreck, beyond repair. My insurance paid me out. I got luckey But others here are going through same nightmare 😔

Bless you for squaring up with these RV manufacturers who have built in a back door to the Alamo into their customer service fortresses. It's hard to believe that in this day and age that they seem more than willing to go to the mat over units that have clear and, apparently, unfixable major issues. I will say that I owned two Heartland 5th wheel trailers and they were both great. My observation is that once manufacturers are bought out by multi-billion dollar conglomerates they cut every corner in quality control to wring out the last penny of profit. Water lines and electrical circuits are strung so tight you could use them as a banjo. One less screw here or there, trimming a few pounds of steel out of the frame ... it all adds up over hundreds of units. Thank goodness you are doing your level best to hold their feet to the fire when they build a lemon and fail to stand up to it. We really need to extend lemon laws to RVs.

I am constantly confused about people allowing dealerships to hold their vehicles hostage for 6-12 months. People need to get the time frames nailed down up front or move on to another dealership for the work. The demonstrated business strategy for these two big companies is to ignore egregious problems which forces owners to a litigate path for possible resolution. Most people do not have the resources and fortitude to pursue this path, and manufacturers know this, so they are in a position to just wait out the situation. But, real marketplace leverage comes through social media advisories, like yours, that shine a light on those manufacturers that should be avoided because of their behaviors when there is a problem. Your advocacy provides a real value-proposition to those looking to purchase a new recreational vehicle. Keep up the good work.

Steve, I watched the Liz Amazing video on RU-vid and am now pretty down on Fleetwood now. We all know that many defective RV’s have been produced over the last couple of years due to the Pandemic, labor and material shortages. The money these folks have paid is a significant amount and they need to be treated right. I do not know all of the details, but I think you need to bring that unit back to the factory and make it right. These stories will poison your industry and create many problems in the future, I am a huge fan of camping and know that people are hesitant to buy new product especially when they hear of these kinds of problems. You can figure out how to get this unit working properly. The dealer network is having a hard time finding qualified mechanics to repair these so that option is difficult to navigate also. Your company created the problem, so you need to step up and fix it.

Yep. That's why I wanted to shine a spotlight on the RV companies who ARE doing it right. Just posted a video on which RV companies to consider if shopping for a NEW Rv. Eye opening for sure! Thanks for watching: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A-TDD8sSMt4.html

To those on here that have mentioned they were considering a Fleetwood or Heartland and backed out I hope you passed that on to their dealers and corporate.

Just like the word got out on the Grand Design warped frame problems, the word will get out on these brands too. People DO extensive research before buying. I, for one, would NOT buy a Heartland RV or a Fleetwood RV -- and I'm in the market, looking right now. Thanks for the heads-up on the deadbeats with zero concern about their customers.

Poor workmanship foresure, but also those Lippert frames on the larger 5th wheels are a huge concern.

Keep it up Liz, sooner or later the RV Industry will get the whole picture “Quality isn’t really that much more cost”. You cut corners, do shoddy work it will cost you, no matter you are or how zeros are behind your name. BUILD RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!! The car industry went thru this hence the lemon laws. Watch out Rv companies, if you don’t correct this the RV lemon is coming to a factory near you!

I believe you are doing a great job in bringing attention to the issues within the RV industry. These companies should be held responsible for selling faulty and deceptive RVs that cost customers much money. It is unacceptable for customers to spend thousands of dollars on a vehicle they cannot enjoy and rely on for travel. The companies' refusal to assist customers who bought defective RVs is unjust, and they should be held accountable and shut down.

Indeed. Thank you for this Abbi! Those are my thoughts exactly. Boy, if you buy a car for over $100,000 they'd be at your door with a replacement and would give you the white glove treatment all the way.

Did you remember to remove the brackets? I’ve had several people who have been able to email so I’m wondering if they just shut it down.

We purchased a 2019 Dutch Star from Sewell Motorcoach in Harrodsburg, KY. They do a great job of taking care of the coaches they sell and their customers. No long waits to have repairs done and done right.
