Eye openers for me: samples in edm, vamping basslines and melodies, thinking in terms of themes and equipment band mates. You always put a lot of good tips in your videos. Btw. I love the groove.

The tragedy is people thinking they can just hop on splice and instantly create some kind of magical beat. That is not how it works for most people. Even some of the more popular tracks of the past 2 decades did not use basic loops. There was some kind of lagniappe (a little bit extra).

My favorite song, that I created for myself used .5 seconds of sound from a vinyl recording from the 1920's. I am not even sure anyone can find out where the sample is from unless I tell them. And I built an entire song around the sample. Of .5 seconds of sound

@@tzodearf2596 Listen to some of the earliest vinyl from the internet archive, and find a really good marimba or xylophone sample lol. The entire song was kinda useless for my style, yet there was about .5 seconds of perfect sound.

In the past: 2 Numark's for vinyl, a stack of vinyl albums, a mixing board, maybe some external FX, and the knowledge required to use samples....kinda built some of my favorite modern underground music to be entirely honest. I really hope people do not forget these concepts
@py_a_thon
@py_a_thon 3 месяца назад
Also the MPC-3000 of course. Or modern equivalents, be them digital software or analog/digital hardware.

Well, isn't it up to us to keep this alive?
@py_a_thon
@py_a_thon 3 месяца назад
@@AnalogKitchen Pretty much. That is also why I cant really hate on the CD-J and Traktor+computer style DJ's of the modern world (or even the ableton live DJ's). They are in fact doing the same artform, yet with different tools.
@py_a_thon
@py_a_thon 3 месяца назад
I hate to admit it, yet tbh: I feel weird using the "amen break" nowadays. I tend to just program a similar form of patterns with dry 808/909 or acoustic samples. The truth is though, if used selectively and properly: the so called "amen break" will always sound better.
@AnalogKitchen
@AnalogKitchen 3 месяца назад
True. And with a little mix trickery you can still add that drive to a modern day tune
@py_a_thon
@py_a_thon 3 месяца назад
@@AnalogKitchen Yeah, the think break or amen break seem to work well as a top loop, as you have demonstrated on occassion when dabbling with some dnb or groove techno. I feel like an mpc(or software equivalent to create loops used in a live set) is almost necessary to really get the most out of that sound tho. Unless the source music is fire to begin with and one can just use a classic break as a top loop, or the entire drum pattern.

Why do not use only the OT for this instead the Blackbox?
@py_a_thon
@py_a_thon 3 месяца назад
No idea. Probably the nuances of hardware routing.
@AnalogKitchen
@AnalogKitchen 3 месяца назад
It's gonna take up too much space and I need that for my drums. Besides I want to be a little more free instead of having to IT my way into the Elektron workflow that I don't think is sexy using live
@py_a_thon
@py_a_thon 3 месяца назад
15:17 why not the viola lol?
@AnalogKitchen
@AnalogKitchen 3 месяца назад
Hahahahaa. Indeed an idea?
@py_a_thon
@py_a_thon 3 месяца назад
@@AnalogKitchen The viola is like the bass player in a symphony lol (edit: metaphorically). You will notice if they are not there, yet you don't always hear them playing. (See the White Stripes for example lol. Awesome band...yet no bass player most or all of the time?) The percussion section is similar sometimes. Everyone hears the drums yet do not always realize how congas, bongos, and whatevers add some sort of hidden groove; or they add to a more complete overall waveform of sound (ie: the tones fill in some missing frequency pockets...sometimes).
