@@2stroketurbo Yes. It is pretty compelling video content. Of course being local to me is an added attraction. I used to live in that part of town and worked at the shipyard.
I learned to drive in one of these. A KR200 Cabriolet. Great fun, but a little unstable on corners as it tended to tip over. My friend's older brother collected them and had three: two KR200s and a KR500 Tiger. My friend and I used to tear around the field at the back of his house, wearing old flying goggles and pretend we were in WW2 dogfights. Well, we were only 14 at the time. Great video and thanks for bringing back some fond memories.
Thank you for bringing us these beautiful memories of the Me-200-KR, one of my cousins had one, equipped with loudspeakers, and an open-reel Geloso recorder, he did commercial advertising on the main avenue of the town back in 1960 or so!!!
Every time I see one of these I think of Brazil and that scene of Sam Lowrey driving down the motorway in a Messerschmitt while surrounded by giant pit-mine trucks
We can't help being "garage sniffers" 😁 with all the way cool little cars you have, some I have heard of, some I haven't, some I have seen, most of them not, except for your collection! Cracking up at Stella, she kept checking on your progress on the Messerschmitt, as if to say: "hurry up dad, I Wanna ride!"😊 Thanks, and keep the great videos coming!
Cheers, from a one-time Isetta owner! During 1968 and 1969, I put 13000 miles on it before it spat the dummy; fun to drive if you didn't mind limiting speed to 37mph, which even as a 19 year old, I decided was its comfortable and safe cruising speed. I drove it from Auckland to Napier twice as well as daily driving. You can use Google Earth to see how long that trip was - an 8-hour epic! It cost $180 in Dec 1967 ... 10 years ago, a nice one went to auction and raised $24000!
I love micro cars. They’re so unique and fun! You have an amazing collection and I’m grateful you share it with us. I hope to one day own my own vintage car. Thanks again!
Brings back memories. Back in the day I had an Isetta and my cousin had a Messerschmitt. I got to drive his car a couple of times. Those cars were so much fun. We went out one Sunday on a hot sunny day with our girlfriends, and down a country road with a ford over a stream. I followed my cousin and he took the ford at 30 mph and so did I. We had the sunroof open on the Isetta and when we hit the water it came right up the front of the car and in through the sunroof. I and my girlfriend got soaked to the skin, but we laughed so much it was worth it.
Your description of that fateful night was perfect. Made me laugh out loud. Reminds me of the time I was taking my new-ish car through the car wash for the first time and my son was curious about what that button on the ceiling did and pushed it: It opened the sunroof! We got soaped and washed for a few seconds and had a nice laugh about it!
I can't even find the words to describe how beautiful your collection is your dog is awesome every time you fire something up there she comes! Thank you for sharing your beautiful collection what I would give to have just one LOL no but seriously...
When I was a kid my father has an Isetta (3 wheeler version) and the chap down the road had a Messerschmitt just like yours....They use to race each other down the dual carrageway. The Village cobbler had a Peel P50.....Well it was the 60's (I think maybe I'm showing my age)
Great story, that must have looks like bizarro world. I live two blocks from Chrysler world headquarters in the late sixties, saw the turbine car drive down our street.
Went looking for a nice Honda Accord video and this thing showed up. Will definitely get a lot of enjoyment out of your other videos if this is anything to go on.
Just come across your channel - very cool cars - I have a 2 stroke Jawa motorcycle (Mustie1 recently got an identical model going after 1,000,000 years !) 2 strokes are a real talking point and make a glorious racket - I have subscribed!
Aww the good old Messerschmiitt Kabinenroller as we call it in Germany. A legend, a neighbor from mine had this as his city car and drove nearly daaily with it. These where cheap student cars in the 70s I was told, nowadays there are expensive collectors items. To go backwards you restart the engine the other way, how nice is that :-)
Thanks for posting! What a super car. Must be the only car with 4 forward and 4 reverse gears! Nice to see that the U.K. roads aren’t the only ones with pot holes all over the place. 1 criticism!. You should have taken the dog, he was obviously dying for a ride! Can’t find your fine weather run, I’ll keep looking.
TY for sharing video or your vvonderfull collection . As you mentioned , the Messerschmidtt only has 8" vvheels making it get bumped around alot . Can the vvheels size be increased to a 10 or 12 ? As it could improve the ride if you vvanted to take it out for an extended period . I'm not sure hovv that vvould effect overall speed & mileage & I understand that most collectors vvant to keep them original vv/the least amount of "hot rodding" as possible . TY again & vvishing you many years of enjoying your fantastic collection .
Take note younglings - that was considered a car at one time (sorta). We just take these for toys these days, but I've known people who used these as daily drivers in their time. I'm not saying all vehicles should go back to the basics, but look at what sizes we build today!
Just looked up some Messerschmitt adverts here in Germany. Starting at 25.000 Euros and cost about 40.000 Euros for restored one like yours! Wow! I love them.
So cool. After WWII Germany could not have car factories. Messerschmitt had delivered together with Junkers airplanes for the 3rd Reich. Only later on in 1955 Messerschmitt could make cars again. This cabinscooter with a 150cc or a 175cc two stroke engine was the first vehicle they made.
I like your taste in cars my first car was a 62 Morris minor conv I have owned a Land Rover 90 a 71 simca I currently have a 90s Dihatsu Hijet my daily is a 94 Delica l400 and yes Ilive in Southern Oregon
My dad used to tell me this kind of car was commonly called "Leukoplastbomber" in Germany after the war. Leukoplast is a German brand of surgical tape.
not sure if you know but on Snapchat there’s a section called “Car Insider” and it uses your footage of this vehicle pulling away from the curb and it’s credited to someone called “MPH Specialties”
Awesome! Next time, if possible, can you please explain what each light is for on the dash as well as all the switches? Your cars are exceptional, and I love how well you take care of them. Just curious, do you know Miles Chappel? He's the guru for honda 600's, and, like is, a tiny car nut.
I just have 1 question for you, how have you acquired all these micro masterpieces. They're all super super rare especially the Vespa and messerschmit.
For sure, it doesn't look bad and would leave some traces on the dashboard. But it immediately came to my mind at first sight. Quite familiar view as a Wartburg driver. Maybe an East German import? Keep up the great RU-vid work and thanks for your content.
The front seat design is really nifty in that you can cantilever it up and back to ease entry. After 1945 the Germans manufactured anything and everything they could think of to make money, and of course they still had many top designers. Within 10 years Germany was enjoying its first Economic Miracle.
I collect old vintage motorcycles and restore them only because they're easier to find LOL I don't know how you found your collection but that's just amazing talk to you later
Where did your love for microcars come from? Were there any in your neighbourhood when you were a kid? Most are post cars from a Europe trying to overcome the economic ravages of WW2... Please answer ;-)
Thanks for preserving and educating. I think WW2 Germany would have invaded London in these if it wasn't for the floor jack needed to get it out of the garage. That's why they went with planes instead.
Dude, I have an older 2 Stroke Tuktuk with 8 inch rims. I feel your pain. Between bouncing to death and going deaf, you never know whats going on while driving.
I once owned a trabant with a 2 stroke engine... You did not dare coast it in gear because the engine did not get lubrication unless you applied throttle to feed gas oil mixture yo the engine... Is this engine the same way???
Have a Trabant too. But I live in former East Germany. I also have a 74' Simson Schwalbe in bright red and it's really nice to drive these. With the license you need (Class AM in Germany) for the Simson you are only allowed to drive mopeds or scooters that can't go faster than 45kph. But with the Simson you are allowed to go 70kph. Don't know, if you know, but you can coast in the 4th gear. But not in the first three. But only at the Trabant P601. Don't know which one you have.
