This looks great! As always, you give such a clear demo. Thanks. Question, does an i-cord bind off keep stockinette from curling up?
@10rowsaday
@10rowsaday 6 лет назад
Thanks, Nancy :-) As to your question, yes, i-cord bind off helps keep stockinette from curling. Depending on the yarn you use for the project, the i-cord alone might not be enough to prevent curling (usually if the yarn is stiff and heavy). In this case, it helps to block the project. I-cord + blocking should be strong enough to keep any yarn from curling :-)

Wonderfully helpful! I am working on a shawl that utilizes a purled i-cord bind off on the right side (it is a garter stitch shawl). Do you have any suggestions on how this would work to do a purled i-cord bind off? (maybe a new video if it is too hard to describe?)

Interesting question! It's always exciting to see how different stitch patterns or techniques work together. Usually, the best way to know is to test it. Make a little swatch in garter stitch and bind it off using purled i-cord. See whether you like how it looks. If you do, go ahead and use this bind off to close stitches of the shawl. If not, try a different type of bind off. I'll also do some swatching. I've never use purled i-cord bind off in a project. If it looks nice, I'll make a video tutorial about it. Happy knitting! :-)

Thanks to your comment, I've got curious about the purled i-cord bind off and the way it looks on different stitch patterns. I've just uploaded a tutorial about this bind off. You can watch it at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YXoBoMQIztQ.html At the end of the video, I show swatches in stockinette, garter and seed stitches bound off with purled i-cord. I hope you'll find it helpful :-)

How would you do the second method when you work eastern mounted? When you say "through the back loop" I interpret that as the trailing leg, but can't figure out how to approach this when my trailing leg is on the front of the needle.

Hi Zyriel. You can use the second method with the Eastern knitting without making any changes (knitting stitches throught the back loop as instructed in the video).. The resulting edge will be formed by regular untwisted stitches, while it is formed by twisted stitches in the classic knitting. Happy knitting :-)

Hi, tnx for this very useful video!! Would you recommend this I-cord bind off for finishing neckline? Is it stretchy enough?? Could it replace neckline in curly garterstitch? Tnx for your advice!😀Dona

Hi Dona. The i-cord bind off is not very stretchy. It will work great for wider necklines, but won't be stretchy enough for turtlenecks. You can make it stretchier by using bigger needles for the bind off. The best way to know is to swatch and see for yourself. Happy knitting :-)
