I've had mine over 2 years. I haven't had any sign of battery decline. The mower is great. Minimal maintenance. I can mow my .6 acre yard twice on a full charge.
@QuietLawn

I have this mower. I changed to a single lithium 48 volt battery and the mower is complete different. It has no power loss and it cuts anything with no speed loss.prior to the lithium battery it was a struggle to get through a job with taller grass. The battery is a big limit to this machine. Change the battery, easy to do. I had to buy a new charger but the mower is so much better now it is worth it. I got 2 years of use with the original batteries but I was draining them everything else I used it so it was severe. These lithium batteries have a load potential that is a game changer.

We have this mower, and the original lead acid batteries won't charge so I'm interested to swap out for a lithium battery. Did you follow the instructions from Anoraker or someone else? I saw a video with instructions for RM480 which maybe a different model, older/bigger?

Ryobi is a "value" brand which provides a good balance of quality and cost savings. It's normally not associated with professional use because there are better, more durable options out there, but for homeowners, though, it's probably the best bang for your buck.

Love it!! Keep going, I love the idea of swapping batteries! I prefer lifepho4 over most other types just because the lifespan. Just remember to test amps under load to verify you are not over the lifepho4 bms rating.

Hey Daniel, you're absolutely right. We're swapping with Lifepo4 and the manufacturer said the bms should be fine.

Thank you for putting out such relevant, thoughtful and thorough content Michael! Very interesting and beneficial to see what you are doing. I think this switch up will pay off for you in terms of employee retention and efficiency. Very few people have the endurance or wherewithal to push mow 10-12 lawns a day more than a few days a week for years on end I imagine, with this setup maybe that'll change and you can get just as much or more done with fewer employees.
@QuietLawn
@QuietLawn Год назад
Thank you so much for the kind words Cyrus. You are right. While the guys can make great money push mowing, it's brutal on the body and, while it's greatly simplified things for us, it's probably led to higher turnover. This will be a happy middle ground where we can still operate profitably and greatly reduce the physical burden on our guys. It's worked really well so far. And yes, it's definitely also increased daily production with the wider mower and reduced fatigue.

Was really considering adding this 30 inch Ryobi to my setup. I have the ego 21 push mower and 52 Zero turn, and having a 30 inch would speed things up so much. Wish somebody made a 30 push mower, one can dream.
@QuietLawn
@QuietLawn Год назад
I know. It's a shame one is not out yet. This Ryobi has helped tremendously over a 21" push mower. It's a good bit faster and much easier on the body. Still waiting on that 30" push mower or a lightweight 32-36" stand on mower.

Michael, if you mentioned it I missed it. With the OEM battery what kind of run time are you getting? Also, being lead acid batteries, are you not having to watch to make sure you don't discharge it below 50% capacity? This intrigues me to no end, but I need to find more information it (specifics, battery comps and costs) before I rush out and pick one up for my little one man company.
@QuietLawn
@QuietLawn Год назад
We try to stick to the 50% rule, but have drained them completely several times as I already have the lithium replacement ready to go and I'm curious how long the lead acid batteries will last. When we're not in the height of the growing season where the batteries don't last the whole day, the rest of the time they get through just fine with lots of juice left.

I've had mine for 2 years and now my battery won't keep a charge I called Ryobi and they don't carry the battery they told me to look it up on Google and find one 🤔 I don't even know how to take it apart to find the battery 😭💔 2500.00 for 2 years isn't what I was expecting I thought I would at least get 4 or 5 years . I did love it for the first 2 years but now I'm very disappointed. I thought it would last longer. And I thought when I would need parts Ryobi would be able to help me. And that's not the case.
@QuietLawn
@QuietLawn Год назад
That is unfortunate Susan. I think you can get comparable batteries on amazon or other and you might consider replacing them with Lithium Phosphate LiPO4 batteries instead as you should get many more years of use out of it. You'll just need to change to a lithium charger as well. That is the downside to these mowers. They come with lead acid batteries that don't last nearly as long.
@susanpierce3379
@susanpierce3379 Год назад
Thanks I did hear you saying you were going to change yours over do you have the information on what battery number I could get? so that I can change mine too so that in two years I don't have this problem again and if you didn't change your batteries yet when you do could you please let me know what to get. battery serial number charger serial number thank you for your time
@QuietLawn
@QuietLawn Год назад
@@susanpierce3379 Hey Susan, we use these mowers commercially and therefore need a battery with a much longer warranty and more capacity. That might not make sense for you since they're about $2000. But, I do see some LiFePO4 batteries on Amazon that look to be the same size as the factory batteries. The title is "ECO-WORTHY 12V 50ah (2 Pack) Lithium Trolling Motor Battery" and it's $339 for 2 batteries. You'll need 4 total and a 48v LiFePO4 smart charger. I'm not sure if you want to tackle this project. You'd just have to rig up the new charger and have a way to connect it to the batteries. There are videos on several Ryobi riding mower Facebook groups on replacing batteries. I do see that the stock replacement batteries for your mower are on the Home Depot website if you'd prefer that route instead.

The tires are cheap garbage. Keep it up on buckets over the winter when the wheels deflate, or they will unseal and it’s a PIA to inflate them in the spring. Also, rubbed one of the rear tires up against a tree branch and it cut a gash through the tire. Super frustrating. I guess this is a great electric riding mower if you have a simple yard with no trees or anything you might bump into. Don’t expect a lawnmower that’s durable.

DO NOT BUY A RYOBI RIDER. Read the numerous 1 star reviews. The 4 and 5 star reviews are only new Ryobi owners. I have had mine for 2 summers. Maybe 30-40 hours. I need to replace all 4 batteries. Only about $1000 to replace. Not under warranty. 1 year manufacturers warranty for the batteries. Ryobi fluffed me off and said I had to deal with the battery manufacturer as it wasn't there problem. The battery manufacturer said Ryobi would authorize a 75% discount for my trouble. However when I told them I need them in Canada I was told Ryobi wouldn't give the 75% discounted rate to Canadians and the manufacturer won't ship them to Canada. I have about 20 or so Ryobi power tools and I can't get rid of them fast enough. Which is too bad since I really like them. If Ryobi won't stand behind there expensive products than they don't deserve my business for any of there other products. Not only should Ryobi stand behind there product and not hide behind fine print, they should actually try and find out why these machines are killing batteries so fast. Read the reviews, so many people are only getting a few hours out of there machines. And yes if you are wondering, I plug my machine in all the time. It is never left unplugged.
