@madgingercustoms it does weld very nicely! I'm pretty impressed with it. The only other welder I have is the Arc Captain mig200. And that works really nice. Thanks Bud! It's been a lot of fun learning and building things😎

Another nice one. These are the perfect projects for developing welding skills. I use the tac and lift quite a bit too. 2 biggest things I’ve learned are probably the 2 most basic things. Super clean weld joints. I overdue cleaning the metal where I’m welding, and keep my ground as close as I can to the location of the weld. That will help a lot with the sticking. It looks like you’re getting good strong welds. That’s the biggest priority. Everything else is a bonus. Great work!!!!

I think the tac and lift technique works pretty good. Especially on thin tubing. Sometimes the basics work the best. Im working on the basics. I haven't even touched the mig welder since aec captain sent me the stick welder. For me I think stick welding is a lot of fun and I'm really enjoying learning it. I'm a stickler for having a clean weld and cleaning the welds up afterwards for a smooth flush finish.

@@MidnightCustoms-C20 I like the nice clean up too. I usually do that. Then every so often you get a project with perfect looking welds and say… I think I’ll leave those just like they are 😎

The first time I touched a welder was this past April. My dad is an amazing wood worker. But I only know how to drive a nail lol

@HammerWrench that's really awesome! When I was in school they took away all of the shop programs. I never got to learn any of those skills. Welding and fabrication is something I've wanted to learn for 20 years and finally said scree it and bought a welder and no idea how to use it. And now I'm building things to build my skills. I'm very happy with this adventure. 🤘

@@MidnightCustoms-C20 the drive to learn and do erases all the years of not knowing how. I had to learn car repair because I was broke and couldn’t afford a mechanics rate. Now I only use a mechanic for transmission work, and I want to learn that too. It’s just bolts and parts, right?

E7014 is a low penetration rod. I suggest practicing with E6010 which is actually better suited for the material you are using. But hey, you gotta use what you have on hand!

is 6010 gonna be too hot for thin wall square tube ? i had picked up the 7014 rods based off some recommendations from a welding group page. i dont really know much about the different electrodes and their ins and outs yet

@@MidnightCustoms-C20 I would try 3/32”, it should be fine. You don’t need the 70,000 pound tensile strength from the 7014 on the stuff you’re working on. But, bounce it off your welding sources and see what they say.

@@mattthescrapwhisperer it was just a welding group on facebook. i started the project with a 7014 rod and it was wasier to use i think than the 7018. but im all for good advice from folks.
