I spent time with your brother in Brookside Youth Corrections in 1981. They would never let him out of lock-up because he would run. He was a very likable person. I'm sorry it ended the way it did. I'll never forget Ty Conn.

Ty was my pen pal for many many years. He had a very hard childhood and was am exceptionally intelligent man. He could talk about anything and everything, all self taught. We wrote each other for over 5 years until I moved to the US and lost touch. A couple of years later I returned back to Germany and I had a letter from a Canadian TV channel, asking me to contact them. At that point I had no idea why the lady wanted to me call her and that Ty had died. Apparently she found my letters in Ty’s cell after he was shot. She was in the process of putting a documentary together about his life and wanted my input. From what I know, his “ friend “ sold him out to the cops and after a long standoff he was shot by the police. People claim that Ty committed suicide bout from knowing Ty and his look on life he would have never and I mean never committed suicide. I really don’t care what people say about him, he was very caring, compassionate and overcame a lot of roadblocks. He always said that he regretted breaking into peoples houses. Never ones did he break in while the owners were in the house, never ones did he physically hurt anyone. However he understood the fear that people felt after he broke into their homes and knew that “ only” because the people weren’t home didn’t mean the burglary didn’t effect them or made them live in fear. Crazy thing is, he got more time for escaping from Canadas most secure prisons than for the actual crimes he committed. We often talked what he would have liked to do if given the chance. His dream was to restore a sailboat and sail from port to port. Never to stay in one place too long. Ty never had a a chance if he would have had people that truly cared for him who knows what he could have achieved. It’s been over 20 years and I still miss my friend. RIP, and Godspeed buddy.

I wonder how his life would have turned out if social services did their job and followed up with him and his adoptive parents. Everything i have read on him, he was just in survival mode and wanted no harm to anyone. May he rest in peace

The more I learn about Ty the more I realize that this how much this dude was just set up to fail from birth basically. The abuse this guy suffered starting with his adopted step parents from a young age is just tragic and depressing 😞

I seen a video about Ty on another channel, Hood Chronicles. It went into detail about the horrific abuse he endured, and I cried for the poor guy who was lost until the day he tragically died, bc of our failing system. I appreciated being able to hear his brother's side of the story; my heart goes out to his entire family.

If Ty truly wasn’t a predator, and I doubt that this video would have been made if he was, there may not be any honor by society’s standards, but he seemed to have been a different kind of criminal. An old world criminal, a bandit. Like a cowboy. I’m pretty sure that this kind of criminal is extinct.

It’s nice to hear good things about him from someone who loved him and was rooting for him.
