Guitarist, singer and songwriter, Ty Tabor of the legendary rock band King's X. In part two, Ty talks about the first King's X album "Out Of The Silent Planet" and how the bands second album "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska" got its name.
Gretchen Goes to Nebraska was one of their greatest albums! I always wanted my guitar sound to be just like Ty' s but I could not completely dial it in!!! It will never be matched! He is one of the most underrated guitar players on the planet and he is on my top 10 Best Guitarists list!!!!
When King's X first got a record deal, they weren't well known by fans, but musicians recognised them immediately. Their early fans were well known musicians and producers. Their success was no surprise to them.
Gretchen goes to Nebraska is the best album ever! I love all the kings x records, but Gretchen was MY first. Over my head was their mtv-radio song, out of the silent planet grabbed ahold of me. Those crazy-awesome harmonies with three vocals and such precision.
After 27 years as a fan, I'm just now learning how they came up with the title to 'Gretchen Goes to Nebraska.' Not sure how I missed this series, but I'm really enjoying it now. I'll take it over anything Netflix is offering these days! :)
I had the privilege of seeing them live in 1988 in Jackson,MS at a small bar called ‘The Creek’. It was right when Gretchen came out. The best 5 bucks I ever spent.
I can't count how many times I've seen these guys, they never cease to amaze. I live in Little Rock, Ar, (only a guy from Mississippi could say it that way..."thank God for Miss LoL!) he was talking about the Wine Cellar (R.I.P.) I have friends who saw them as "The Edge" and still comment on how good they were...they even went to Springfield to see them Ha Ha. King's X is history.
Saw their Out Of the Silent Planet album tour, already an incredible buzz from the people who knew about them. I found the record by accident, saw the cover - made no sense, saw the band photo - also made no sense; what a mix of looks. Had to buy it, and got The Beatles meets Metallica. Whoa.
bought silent planet when it came out on wax ; didnt know who they were but loved the lyrics & cover art; one of my all time fave bands now ~! thanks guys
Borrowed Gretchen from one of my Airmen while stationed in England - Made a Pint glass of Whiskey and Mt. Dew - Put the CD on and sat down in a huge overstuffed easy chair for my first listen. I was blown away .....................
I'm from Houston and remember when Gretchen came out. Summerland was the sh*t. They were based out of Houston at the time and that video had Houston Tx all over it.
There are two kinds of people on this planet. One kind which accounts for 99.99999 with nines all the way across the board. Those are the people who have never heard of King's X. Then there's the rest of them; the very few. Every last one of them, rabid Kings X fans. God bless the intelligent few. As for all the rest, the many; I'm still trying to figure out what they did to piss God off so very much. Join me in a silent prayer for them. As someone once said "...for they know not what they do"
I have it, and it's as forgettable as Ty says it is. If you're a completionist, like I am, it's something to hear. The same with the first four Pantera indie releases. Which I also have. I'm from Texas, saw them in clubs and wanted a flashback.
C'mon ty, please, for us fans, dont compare the plastic "beatles" to the music that you Doug, and , Jerry have made for us. They had all the modern tech and the propaganda backing them. U guys made it with guitar, bass, drums, and incredible vocals. And SOUL! It matters
