Tyabb Air Show 2024 with the Tamron 18-300 zoom

I went to the Tyabb Air Show 2024, and the organisers put on a great event, despite the heatwave over the whole weekend.
I used one lens, my Tamron 18-300 zoom on my Fujifilm X-H1.
The Tamron zoom worked well. It would perform better on a more modern camera body, such as the X-H2(S) or the X-T5. With my X-H1 it was a bit too hit and miss with focussing.
All that being said, the images that were in focus are very nice indeed.
All the video in this youtube was done with my Sony X3000.
If you are after a competent super zoom for your Fujifilm then the Tamron does a good job. I paid full retail price for my lens, so I put my money where my mouth is.

Glad to see you were not in that static engine's prop path. I thought for sure that's what the emergency vehicle at the beginning, was going to be about. Ha! Nice hook to keep us on the edge, and great shots.

Turned out there was a bit of a fire the CFA had to do some work on, part of the display.

Wow Greg, thanks very much only thing I like better than boats is planes. You got my all time fave the Corsair. Absolutely stunning and brilliant. I got one down at the water front towing a sign and you can actually read it says "Shark Week". Why they had a plane towing that I have no idea but it was cool to see. Looking forward to this season and got 300mm glass for my Canon bodies and a 70-210 D model for my Nikon bodies. That lens is stupid fast and accurate on the focus. Tracks hawks and anything else you care to point it at. Well worth 50 quid and that was from MPB. I have a class coming up pro studio shoot with my instructor April 28. My hands should be all healed up by then, no more going numb not feeling the controls, that was a bummer ..... tri-pod to the rescue .... lol.

Fantastics shots of classic aircraft. Great photography both still and video but your editing and sound mix have improved with everything you do! Can I sign up to a class? Seriously!

It's been a while since I saw you out with the X-H1! (But I have to admit that I missed quite a few videos). Good to see that it is working again. I have to say, that while the AF on the X-T3 is already a huge improvement over the X-H1, even on the latest cameras like the X-H2s, it can still be pretty hit-and-miss. Fuji will be Fuji. I get lots of shots in burst where some will be in focus and some in the same burst will be out of focus. So don't expect miracles from newer models!

The X-H1 is a replacement for the one I drowned... As for autofocus, the Tamron Zoom is the only lens I use AF with... everything else I manual focus, so I'm not too fussed about the hunting etc.

@@GregCarrickManual focusing on a fly-by airplane is a bit hard I guess so if you have an alternative, it is always welcome even if it's not perfect! I just wanted to say it's a problem that just doesn't go away no matter how you upgrade and so, well better learn to live with it. 🙂 It's a lot better in AF-Single than in AF-Continuous btw.

Did I see a Spitfire? At that point I was distracted and reflected on Kitty Hawks - Dad use the stitch them together after the opposition ventilated them. Often the pilots too, though not many of those came back. And Hurricanes. Didn't see any Vampires. I saw them often, 60-62.

The Spitfire was a 70% sized replica. Had a 6 cylinder aircraft engine of some sort. Quite light and agile.

Great shots Greg. Particularly liked the Corsair, and the Avenger. I used to go to a lot of air shows, but I've forgotten how to shoot aircraft in flight. Mind you, that was in the film days. Maybe the subject for another video.

Oh boy, back in the film days I would have used the Olympus OM-1 with a horrendously dark Hanimex 400mm. Be lucky to even see a plane through that :)

@@GregCarrick I learnt, or relearnt, recently that Hanimex was an Australian importer and manufacturer of photography gear. It was important enough to influence designs, and was the number two manufacturer of projectors. At some time it became Fujifilm Australia.
