Very nice cdc caddis fly mate. That one sure be a killer for those big ole browns and rainbows. Thanks for sharing another great tying video. Have a great day. Best Regards, Ken
These are wonderful flies but they are hard for me to see, so, I added a little florescent polypropylene post and wrapped the front hackle around the back to the front. They are not as natural looking but I could not see them without the post. They worked like magic, as it got dark; mine only lasted for about three fish per fly. Three flies and eight trout is enough proof to make more of this pattern. I call them McPhail’s Cinnamon tea CDC. Mine turned out looking more cinnamon colored. I steamed two back to life but one was a goner.
It's not a good pattern, it's a great one! A great idea to make an underwing from deer. I will try it (in gray shades). Actually I use it for years but without an underwing.
Hi Davie, another wonderful pattern. Thank you for sharing. One bit I didn’t quite get, it looked like you showed a Hebert Miner Cock Neck cape but the actual feather looked uniform like a saddle hackle. Could you clarify which it was that you used? A neck hackle or a saddle hackle. Many thanks, Paul.
Hi Paul, I used a Herbert Minor Dry Fly Neck like the one in the link I have attached for you to see, the hackles are very long and thin just like a fine saddle feather like you said.. I am glad you liked the fly as well.. All the very best Davie.. www.madriveroutfitters.com/p-3107-hebert-miner-rooster-capes.aspx
Davie McPhail Lovely stuff Davie. Thank you for taking time to reply and also for your efforts in producing the video. I wish you tight lines and wet nets. Paul
I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you. Been meaning to ask for a while now... Have you tried re-sharpening tying scissors? How did it go? Asking because I ran into a demonstration of sharpening scissors (general types). Mike
Hi Mike, I did and now I have sharp scissors so I can't thank you enough for sending me the link as I've tried many ways and they never worked so I owe you one.. All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail Well, I guess I forgot that I had sent the link already. I'm really happy it worked. Now, if I tie enough... use my scissors enough... It'll work for me too. Oh, and you don't owe me one near as I can tell. Looks more to me like I'm getting evener with you... taking and giving. Mike

Hi George, I would use either but I would also mix these dyes as I would use fiery brown with a tiny bit of brown to darken it which will give you a lovely colour.. ATB Davie..
Hi Davie, could you do a tutorial on how you would attach a dropper ring to the hook to fish New Zealand style like the Fulling Mill SR Klinkhammer Duo?
Hi Nick, I've never tyed a Fulling Mill SR Klinkhamer fly before as all I do is tye the leader to the bend of the hook rather than tye on a ring as this has always worked for me..If I was going to tye on a ring I would use a fine braid which would make it easy to tye in rather than a nylon as it is much stronger and finer..I'll keep it in mind the next time I'm tying klinkhamers as I know it would be worth filming.. All the very best Davie
Hi deee jaaay, I would normally use my GoPro to film outside when fishing but I need to replace it as it's not working too well due it's age, I plan to buy another for next season.. All the very best Davie..
Hi Robert, It was just a dark brown seals fur in the video though a touch of claret seals fur mixed in can be very good which I know works really well.Another good blend is to mix in a little fiery brown, but also mix the front hackle with the same colours to go with the body.. All the very best Davie
