I love watching Davies’ RU-vid videos. I have learned so much from him over the years. He’s definitely up there with the very best fly-tiers in the world. To be honest I really can’t name anyone better than him.
Thanks again Davie for some great flies. I like the way you turned the body material over. Never thought of it. So simple and I just cut off an re-tie when I want both sides like the red and green etc. I never tied this spider pattern but I intend to tie them now. All the best, Sean
The spider has been very effective on our Ozark mountain streams tied in various degrees. # 14-# 16 hook has been the best size to use. Your spider looks like a real winner. Will tie some and let you know how they work. Thanks Davie.
I'm having good luck with the purple spiders here on our Ozark streams. The peacock and orange I'll try. I've got some of the two-toned tinsel. It looks like a winner. I love to spider fish. Thanks Davie.
I will substitute bright fine copper wire at the rear and use it as the rib too. I will also substitute a green Mylar for the Peacock. Closest colours I have to yours. Will lightly coat the body with Sally Hansen. Last change will be a CDL hen hackle in the darkest shade I have! This combo will be close as I can get and should work! Thanks for the pattern!
Hi davie, I knew you had a cold but the audio was messed up too. I thought that was my connection. neat trick with the mylar. bet that would pop coated with resin. I must be psychic, I watched iron blue soft hackle & posted a comment about my biggest fly hooked trout. #12 grouse & orange, hairs ear thorax. Hello Davie, another seriously astonishingly wet fly. Many, many thanks for showing here. I have a completely different question. Could you demonstrate how you apply the tying wax on your hand/finger? I'd like to make a habit of it too. A brief explanation, probably as a video here on YT, would make it much easier to adopt. Hey Davie, love your videos, I've tried quite a few of your wet fly/soft hackle patterns swinging for trout here in the northeast part of the US with great success, I was wondering if you had a suggestion for where to get the Chinese hen hackles you use so often, I've had a hard time tracking down a reliable source, thanks for everything.
Hi Davie, Enyoying these Spiders so much. Having a bit of trouble with the hackles breaking. Tell me please what pliers do you use ? Ive had a look at Barry Ord`s modified ones but perhaps I`m a tad heavy handed. Or the feathers dont go much on Sand Paper !!

The small pair of hackle pliers I have I bought more than 20 years ago and they came from Veniards but I don't see any on their website so I have attached a link to a pair that looks very like them...The best hackle pliers are your fingers if I have to be honest but having a light touch does help to stop these hackles breaking.. Dear friend Can I use Black cock for Hackle ? and u are using peacock uniMylar for body, but can i use real peacock for body ? sorry for my bad english :) Greetings Marius
Hi Marius, I would happily use a Chinese cock hackle on this fly as it's still soft enough for it to swim well and use what you have as peacock will work on any fly.. All the very best Davie
