This one of my favourite patterns that you tie and one that I will tie in the near future. It looks like it has excellent movement in the water. I will tie it half the size as I see it nailing some Irish sea trout 👍

Beautiful fly. I found that fishing off rocky places the resin can get cracked and shatter. A layer of aquashure on top can prevent this.

Genius pattern Davie. I love the combo of feathers and synthetics. I bet that this one swims and breathes as if it were a natural baitfish. It looks to me like a streamer that would fool even the pickiest of eaters. As always, your technique is flawless!

Hi Davie, Another great fly from your vice. This fly actually does a great job, as already stated, immitating the sandeels we have here in Denmark. But, I would probably add an extra stinger hook because of the long tail - decrease the chance of the fish only grabbing the tail. All the best, Carsten

Hi, to be honest I wouldn't call it a saltwater fly, it looks like a great pike fly as well! 23:36- instead of varnish, you could also rub it with a cloth soaked in some rubbing alcohol/surgical spirit, it works great and removes all of the remaining residue and tackiness :) take care.

Hi wtrw001, I've attached a link to the 40mm long hair uv fritz /chenille which is sold by Veniards, they are a wholesale company so any shop that stock their materials should be able to help you...I'm glad you liked the fly and thank you for the kind words... Davie, as always your fly tying videos are awesome! I have seen them all and check frequently to see your new ones. Could you consider panning out at the beginning or at the end so we can see you while you are talking? It's nice to put a face with your dialogue. Thanks again!

Hey Davie, Brilliant! I love the tubing idea. When you used chickabou for the fry, did you still use the tubing? Chickabou has a really thick stem, I would think it would be hard to get that stem in there? Anyway, I haven't got Rhea yet. Christmas time and all. I did acquire some peacock secondary wing feathers. They have a fantastic marrying ability. Better than turkey (in my opinion). May never get more so I am saving them for atlantic salmon flies. Still love to watch. Thanks for sharing that design. All the best to you and yours. Sean

Hi Sean, Yes I did use the Larva Lace tubing with the chickabou, the flies I was tying were for rainbow trout that were feeding on small fry on some of the lakes down south..I can't remember if I had any problems getting the stems of the chickabou in the tubing and I've no chickabou left to try this again but just use CDC or hackles.. All the very best Davie

Hi Davie. I have watching a lot of the fly you tying. I have a question, can I copy your fly picture and recipe, if so, can you wright to me how I do it. Thanks for sharing all your fly tying. All the best. Odd-Julian

There is a lot easier and more durable fry pattern than this as i believe the materials used are fragile,syntehic materials dont hold water and are more durable and give lovely movement when tied properly and are less tiring to cast when casting big flies all day Kind reguards steve

I wonder, do you like Deer Creek resin? I find it dries with no tack what so ever. I thought I saw you tie with it, but not sure. All the best, Still love this fly. Got tubing now so I am going to try it. Got some rhea too! I have amassed quite a collection over the last four years. Take care God bless, Sean
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 8 лет назад
Hi Sean, I have used this resin in the past and it does set well, it is not very tacky as you said though I would always coat any resin with varnish even if they feel dry as they can go dull and the varnish will stop this..I have now tyed many flies with the rhea and I will be adding it to many more flies I'm sure as it's a great material... All the very best Davie

Hi Davie, what is the difference between Rhea n ostrich feathers, I know rhea are in S-America while Ostrich are mostly in S-Africa warm rgds
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 9 лет назад
Hijparryprodeal, You'll find that Rhea is a lot finer and unless you wind the fibres you would think a lot of the herl wasn't there, it's also quite strong and mobile making for good flies...I've also found it to take the dye really well so it's certainly worth using on some of your flies..... All the very best Davie

***** Thank you Davie, I will try to get hold of some rhea. Best regards, Parry, Sadly besides this, i was trying to get some advice from Regal and also one of their dealers. I wanted to buy the Revolution Rotary with a Big Game head and a Medallion Rotary -C-Clamp with stainless head. I ask to them to confirm that I can interchange the head vice versa between the 2 versions of vice but till i have no success. The only difference eI saw in the revolution Rotary head was the counter balance, other then that the head looks all very similar.

Davie what do you fish for in the salt?
@DavieMcPhail

Hi Paul Kasputis, These flies were tied for Sea Bass and Seatrout but they would easily take many other fish feeding on Sandeels and small fish... Thanks for the kind words... All the very best Davie
