Hi Davie Thank you for the quick response, I will check it out. I've been a subscriber to you for many years now and I am always amazed at how perfect your flies turn out. For the longest while I was hoping you would do something with what I thought was a wart on your right index finger, before I saw you apply your thread wax there. I felt better after that. Just thought I'd let you know that. As far as I'm concerned you are one of the finest fly tyers out there, bar none. Thanks again, Ron
Hi Davie Great looking shrimp pattern. I really like the diffrent tricks you used while tying it. I will be trying to ty some of theses up. Thanks for The Great Videos Chance
Just another great job Dave, perfect look and fun to tie! Regards from Argentina! I will give it a try in Mexico for bones... see how it works! THX Again for sharing!
Hi Davie , Great fly & it works great and easy to tie . I used Ice Wing Fiber White/Clear and Dark Tan Veniards Glister Sparkle dub instead of the lite-brite . When I dubbed both materials onto my thread at once , both colours stayed more or less separate but stuck together giving a subtle barber-pole affect . Then when I wouund the dubbing onto the hook , I had the shrimp segments already done & looking very natural . I'm a big fan of yours Davie , u taught me to tie ! CheersTony in AUSTRALIA
Hello Dave, I am writing you from Southamerica and I am a follower of your flies. This shrimp was really espectacular... You are just a master tying flies. I do my own flies and jigs too, and I think that there is a special taste when you have a big catch with something you did by yourself. I will send you in my next comment one of my videos. Thank you for sharing your tips...
Excellent pattern for saltwater, I was blind casting into flats covered in grass and caught all kinds of fish. Worked better than other flies I had, a confidence booster. Small fish did not shy away from it either.
Hi Fishing DW, Thank you for letting me know how well you have done with the Lite-brite Shrimp as it's always great to hear how the flies are doing, and well done to you for tying and fishing them... Happy New Year and all the very best for 2015.. Davie.....
Davie, Amazing looking fly. Looks really fun to tie. I'm 1500 miles from any ocean, going to have to try tying a few of these up in case I'm ever near it again. Or might try it on the great lakes migratory browns in the fall as they are really aggressive, and usually 15lbs. Thanks for the great fly.... Sam
This is a beautiful Shrimp fly. I have tied a couple now and will try them next week for seatrout in the baltic sea. It looks deadly. I will report u any catches! Thanks a lot and have a great week!
Davie, Great shrimp pattern. I like the idea of using the lead tape. I will have to look for that. Your pattern looks very realistic. I would say that if that was tied in a light tan or shrimp color or light rootbeer color would make a great color veriation. That light color would be great for beach fishing or sandy flats here in Florida or in the islands. Thanks for sharing your pattern.
Hey Davie Uline sells 1/4 inch lead foil tape S-18658 for $26.00 USD and it's 60 yards long, you just have to cut it to lengthwise to fit and it does not have a backing on it, so there is nothing to remove. Ron C Ruskin FL USA
Davie, Thank you for the answer. I´will tie some shrimps using small dumbell eyes like you say. I live in Brazil in the southwest region, so I´will try to fish for peacock bass using this shrimp in places where are plenty of freshwater shrimps. I´m sure about the succes using this shrimp ! Thanks again ... Theodifly
Nice sir! Hopefully I can tie some of these Ive never tied a fly, and they would kill red fish and speckled trout over here in Texas, oh and you sound like one of the Beatles too!
Got to try these - I am in North Carolina and these look like a really good speckled trout fly. I heard you say it was on a #5 hook but what style hook? Learn alot off of your videos, really appreciate you taking the time to teach. Jason
Great fly Davie. I'm a big fan. Is there a simple way to get off those last fibers at the tip of the hackle? The ones used for the antennae. I am having a devil of a time stripping them off.
great Job, very nice tying. I need a new vise. Always used renzetti, but what vise are you using? It looks great! Will you recommend it: I tie maybe 1000 flies a year... not much. Some saltwater patterns in big hooks like 4/0 but most of my tying goes from 2 to size 18... Love to have your opinion and suggestion. Regards from Argentina, Pablo
Hey Davie I've tried to find a lead foil with adhesive as thin as you used on this fly, but everything I find is much heavier, such as golf tape (which I have used in the past). Can you tell me the name of your lead tape product or where you can obtain it? Thanks, Ron C Ruskin, FL
Hi Ron, I have attached a link to the lead tape that I use, it comes in different widths but it's all the same thickness as far as I believe..You can also make it thinner by rubbing it on the edge of a table which will stretch it out, it's maybe worth doing this with the tape you have... Davie, Very nice and good shrimp ! I´will just start to tie some shrimps for bonefish fishing.. Does this shrimp swim hook point up ? Thanks for the video ! Best regards Theodifly
Hey Davie Just tried buying the 1/8'' lead foil, but alas, no one has it any longer. Do you have any suggestions? I order some 1/4'' and will attempt to cut it smaller, but do you have an outlet you are using these days? Ron C Ruskin FL
Hi Ron, I'm sorry I sent you the wrong tape as this was the aluminium tape and not the lead tape so here's a link to a company that is selling it closer to you as a guide to looking for a cheaper supplier.. www.silmid.com/us/tapes/metal-foil-tapes/3m-420-lead-foil-tape-1inx36yd-roll/ All the very best Davie
Great looking shrimp davie...would this work for flounder in the uk davie mcphail??? Plus has anyone on here tried fly fishing for flounder in uk/ireland that could give me a few pointers
Hi Mark, I'm sure a flounder would have a go at this shrimp if it was fished right on the bottom though I have never caught one...I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie..
Hola etimado Davie McPhail, felicitarte por esa habilidad que tienes en la creatividad en tus moscas. Soy nuevo en esto de pesca con mosca. me puedes dar unos buenos consejos de que moscas usar para mar, Pequeñas presas.
Hi Gerry, I've attached a link to the bulk spools of thread I use especially on large flies...I'm glad that you enjoy the videos.... All the very best Davie www.theessentialfly.com/V-BTT60-03.html?currency=1&gclid=COzBluPiicECFY_ItAodMRQAQw
Hello Davie, I went yesterday but none of my patterns worked. Which is not their fault, seatrout are just hard to catch and sometimes they are just not there. I will definitely try it out again. It looks very very good in the water. Do you think the colours work in both clear and dull water? All the best, Stefan
Hi john green, I have attached a link to shrimp eyes that I would recommend for your shrimp patterns... All the very best Davie www.easyshrimpeyes.dk/?lang=en
