One of my friends-fishermen has answered to a question 'bout a best fly for grayling: "A fly must be a tiny little AND grayish". It's a good example of the best fly for grayling. I will try it.
Got a few of them in my dry box... worked well in the evenings on Lewis. You make it look too easy Mr Mcphail!!! Should've seen the wife's face when I told her I need a whiting neck!!! ATB !!!!
Another little gem Davie..... gonna give this one a go 🤞 lol My fave so far that I’ve actually tied (no giggles now. I know it’s a simple one!) is the partridge and orange. Sweet spider it is.....
I’ve been following Davie’s channel since the beginning. He’s inspired and improved me so much so that I’ve started my own channel. I’d love you guys to sample some content and if you like it subscribe to the channel. Thank you Davie, your work is awesome!!
Hi Alberta Fly Tye, I'm not sure about the history of the Grey Duster but it has been around for a very long time though we do share many patterns and the Adams would be a good one to mess about with.. All the very best Davie..
I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you. A couple of things came to mind. Is there a finer thread that is like UNI 8/0 you find suitable? I've watched you tying with other threads and it seems to me there are certain problems with them. Would you tell me what you see as the difference between a Grey Duster and an Autumn Dun, please? Mike
Morning Mike, I have used a 16/0 Veevus thread which is much easier to use though I do get by with the Uni 8/0..The Grey Duster is an old pattern which can be tyed in any size and will work for many fly species like the Autumn Dun.. The difference is in the hackle as the Autumn Dun is normally tyed with a Dun or dyed grey hackle the Grey Duster is tyed with a Badger hackle so I would say this is the only difference..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
All my thread is UNI 8/0, the validity of which I learned from you. I may try Veevus 16/0 but the UNI 8/0 has worked down to #22, so... ??? Thank you for the help, Davie. I appreciate it. Mike
Great little fly mate. Bet that one would be a killer on Brooke’s. Could you also do them in olive or any other colour? Thanks for sharing again my friend. Have a good day and hello to your family. Best Regards, Ken
Hi Ken, It's a great wee fly and tyed in any colour though I would say this one has caught me more fish than I could count over many years..You too have a great day... All the very best Davie...
I have my glasses on and I couldnt see it. Bloody hell. Grasshopper when you can tie this fly onto your rod you will have learned. I think I will be giving this one a skip Master Kan.
