Really great abrasion resistance and though I've never put the Big Game line ru-vid.comUgkxQ4x31pJVpClzhxzNFeILZYTW7Xbs7ZIF (any poundage) through an official test it always seems to break well above rated poundage. This line stretches a very good amount before it breaks and does well in saltwater too. Not the best line for a spinning reel in my opinion, especially if you're planning on using it for lures only due to it having a bit of memory but still a great line whether filling a spool, using as top shot or strictly for leader line. I've bought a bunch of Big game line in the past and plan on continuing to do so in the future.
Good description of a bad knot. I never understand why this is the knot taught to beginners when it is the weakest leader knot they could use. I have lost loads of gear over the years thanks to this very knot. As Stephen Pelham says using a grinner makes a stronger knot but better still learn the improved albright or spider hitch in the first place.
Tie this knot and REALLY pull it before cutting both tag ends off and the overhand knot of the shock leader will pull and slip and will “pigtail”. Albright or Spider Hitch is better and the Bimini Twist is best of all (if you can be arsed to tie it)
Simpler than people think doing it for the 1st time, always used that kind of shock leader knot when beach casting , even pulling up Cod, Rays and small conger up 12 ft of cliff. I would say 15lb dead weight and still does better that the hook knot.
Fantastic. Truly an inspiration. A real man of the people. After watching this video, I entered the village square with but a foot of shock leader and three hooks, and was able to tie this knot for all 5000 in attendance. Thank you, God bless.
*I bought these and used them at the river where I get snags often they have done a **enjoyable.fishing** recommend great job of not breaking along with some strong line I purchased as well. They are super durable and easy to use.*
Never seen a name for this knot but it,s basically a "half no-name" knot. I use a six-turn tucked blood knot in the thinner line. Seen a few negative comments below but I've tested many others and this is best. The knot should be well tested before use as it doesn't always set right every time and should be re-tested every half dozen casts or so and after pulling out of a snag or a big fish. Best to re-tie between sessions as friction through the rings when casting and retrieving rapidly leads to knot failure. This is true of all mono-to-mono shock-leader knots.
tried this several times .... one good hard tug and it comes undone .... not sure what im doing wrong but clearly it doesn't work for me, maybe my lie is crap .... but using the same shock line as in the vid
What percent strength will this knot give? Impressively thin, but I'd feel much more confident without a shock leader to be honest, hate to hook up on something big and then have the line break at the shock leader knot. Never used a shock leader before, but as I'm beginning to move up in rod length and cast weight I'm beginning to realize I might either have to switch over to Sunline Castaway braid in at around the 50lb or use a shock leader just to be safe. Sucks that I have to as I don't like either of those ideas at all.
Hi Richard, you must have a minimum of 6 turns of leader around your spool when you cast.If you're not sure how to measure it, try this tip. Put your rod together and thread the shockleader back down through your rings from the tip to the reel. Tie the shockieader knot as above, and wind at least 6 turns on to your spool. Then measure how much leader you require outside your tip ( this depends on what casting style you adopt) If you're pendulum casting you'll need about 9ft of leader outside your rod tip, if you're off the ground casting, about 7ft. Then cut the leader to length and wind on to your reel. Then you'll have the correct amount of leader on your reel. This is the same rule for fixed spool and multiplier reels. Hope this helps.
