Man im glad you made this. I used to tie flys when i was a kid. I just got back into steelhead this year and these in black, white and olive are one of the things im going to stock up on along with trout beads and the couple go to flies like hare's ears, copper johns, sucker spawns, egg sucking leaches and buggers

I tied a bunch of these in a few different colors but went a size smaller jig head and hook. Crushed the smallmouth and a few rock bass and perch this past weekend. Fished them the same way under a float. Defiantly a lot cheaper than buying pre tied wolly buggers and you get the same or better results. Thanks for the tips!

They aren't the prettiest jigs but they do work. I recently got into steelhead fishing while visiting the UP of Michigan. It is addictive!!! I started tying my own jigs and being the perfectionist that I am I am very proud of my jigs. I like black too. I also make olive ones and a variety of different colors like blue, purple, pink, and orange. I will be revisiting the UP in the Spring and you can bet that I will be doing some salmon and steelhead fishing.

@BillMikesAnglingAdventures
@BillMikesAnglingAdventures 8 лет назад
+Zak Smith hard to say , they both work well under various conditions but i think the black shows up better under water in stained dirty water . jigs seem better later in the season after the salmon are long gone and the trout are feeding on bugs and minnows and other things but i still prefer eggs in faster water and jigs in the slower moving sectins

Hi, thanks for the video, I like this fishing method but here in Spain is not usual. I would like to know how to fish marabou jigs, do you need to move the marabou jig when it is into the water or it is enough if you leave the jig hanging of the bobber without any movement? Many thanks and sorry for my english.

This is great. Looking forward to tying a few. Just a couple questions. I find the wire hooks on Cabelas and some other jigs can be flimsy. Has this been an issue at all with these hard fighting fish? Also, how durable are these materials? Do you have to put a new one on after each fish? I’m thinking you have to have quite a few with you either way. Thanks again.
@BillMikesAnglingAdventures
@BillMikesAnglingAdventures 5 лет назад
thanks man , they are flimsy and i do lose the occasional fish but i catch a bunch on a jig before they wear the paint off - i been tying some with the voodoo jig hooks - they seem a lot better and heavier wire for fighting big fish

@BillMikesAnglingAdventures 5 лет назад
i use the sheffield clear floats in larger size and i add wieght for sacks depending on the current
@bossbob50
@bossbob50 7 лет назад
Two questions. 1. Do you fish the jig close to the bottom (within six inches or so), and 2. Do you jig it under the bottom, or just let it drift and allow the current to impact action to the marabou? Thanks much.
@BillMikesAnglingAdventures
@BillMikesAnglingAdventures 7 лет назад
we try the jigs at different depths , sometimes 2' under the float sometimes closer to bottom - mostly we give the jig a couple twitches the let it sit for a few seconds then repeat but we do change things up to see whats working best on a given day

I've tied dozens of your black f jigs (black and olive, black and white, even black and pink or purple), and I can tell you that black will almost always out fish every other colour. I know that you know this to be true as well. There's just something about its natural look, combined with its ability to stand out and be visible to fish in all conditions that makes it the greatest colour for a marabou jig. Great stuff, btw are you guys getting out anytime soon for some trout fishing? I hear that the action at Burt is starting to heat up.

+Bill & Mikes Angling Adventures jeez man, I haven't been doing well here either . Hooked a few decent ones but there spitting the hook like nothing, even after a solid hook set. Just little smolts with the odd jack mixed in. Last year the run in Oshawa ON was completely DEAD. Hooked 1 fish all fall and winter on about a dozen trips. Hopefully that doesn't happen again. Might be giving Burt a try this Saturday, after what you've told me I'm not so sure yet though LOL.

@markpetricevic3368
@markpetricevic3368 8 лет назад
It's all about the strike zone. fish have excellent peripheral vision at the certain depth they"re holding at. When the action of the jig is right they'll move on it. The "steelhead" or salmonid fish group are fish that are attracted by patterning and action more than scent or flavor like that of the bass family. Though steelies love a properly presented spawn sack or minnow during certain times of the year. Hope that helped.
