Tying down a five gallon bucket in a truck bed

Bill asked about tying down an ISCO container in the back of his truck bed. I don’t have one of those so I improvised with a 5 gallon bucket. It’s similar to how tow trucks tie tires down on a flatbed.

I love your videos. But especially when you show solutions for specific situations. Great work!

That's really handy I've tried so many different ways to keep 5 gallon buckets secured in the bed of my truck and never thought about a continuous loop on the main rope line. That definitely makes tying buckets into the bed a lot faster and easier, for sure gonna use for work and at home.

ISCO is a brand name. Instrumentation Specialities Corporation of Lincoln Nebraska. The ISCO portable wastewater sampler lives in the sewer, and it sucks samples from the flow stream.

Looks like a 5 to 1 mechanical advantage.

fisherman's knot, then a larks head.. You have some creative knot ideas man.. I used to just use the "baltimore knot" before I started watching and practicing some of your methods.... also I think it is a 4:1 mechanical advantage.. Having multiple loops on the same shackle point doesn't change the ratio.

Love it! Any thoughts on how to secure a 5-gal bucket to a cargo carrier where you don't have a side wall to snug up against? Maybe something like an upside-down barrel sling, but with a tensioning system...

Nice video! Question tho.. what if the object (similar shape) weighted more then you could lift yourself and had to be loaded by forklift on a pallet.. leaving it standing in the middle of the truckbed. I would like to know how to tie that down.

I have often thought about the viability of a horn cleat as a tie down point for a truck.

Could you do a video on a way to support a bucket that's being used to draw water from a moving boat? The forces can be quite strong, so attaching a rope to the bucket's handle is right out. Also, the bucket can't be allowed to slip out between the ropes. Thanks! (Having the bucket not slip out between the ropes is the hard part.)

What size bucket?
@sailingcyclops
@sailingcyclops Год назад
@@First_Class_Amateur A relatively small bucket, no more than 5 gallons. Anything else is too heavy to lift back aboard with a handheld rope. Thanks, if you can show this!

How about tying down a 20lb propane tank or two?
@TrueHelpTV
@TrueHelpTV Год назад
Use the handles on the tank as your main attachment points. Lace them together. Now use something like a barrel hitch, or timber hitch; if your tanks have slotted handles on the lower rim, run these hitches through top and bottom. Now use a sheet bend knot tension ropes to the truck's anchor points. 3 points of anchor (triangle) should be sufficient to prevent sliding. Cheers. Not my fault though if you do something wrong.

If like to see a video of loading/unloading a washer ,dryer, fridge and/or stove by yourself into a truck. Using mechanical. advantage. Without ramps.
@johnanthony6710
@johnanthony6710 Год назад
By yourself, without ramps? You need to rent or borrow a pickup truck with a lifting tailgate, or a forklift. With long enough ramps, if it's not too heavy, a strong man might be able to get it on with a good moving dolly. If it's too heavy, it can still be done with a Come Along and using sections of pipe as rollers. Jan Adkins wrote a good book titled "Moving Heavy Things". Maybe your library can get it.

@TrueHelpTV

Lol there's literally something called a barrel hitch. ~FIN (add stabilizing points at the barrel hitch cross points around the entire cross points using something as simple as bowline and use sheet bend to tension it. I don't necessarily trust your setup man, you've got to much dependency on that green knot on the lid and if it fails, depending on whats IN the buckets, that could be a major issue.
